A Taste of Authentic Italian Risotto
2011-03-14
I love Italian food. Ask me to dine with you over some pizza or pasta and seriously, I’m there. That’s why it was so easy for me to say YES when I was invited to have lunch at Pontini Restaurant, the award-winning Italian Restaurant located inside the Grand Copthorne Hotel at Havelock Road. As it was my first time there, the first thing that I took note of was the restaurant’s surrounding. It was very big and spacious, and it looked very fancy with its cream colored walls and high ceilings. Just when I sat down on my table, the waitress was there right away to ask me what I wanted for drinks. As for the food, I didn’t have to browse through their wide array of menu choices because I was there for one purpose: to sample their Risotto specials.
Champagne Caviar Risotto
The first dish served was the Champagne Caviar Risotto. What I really like about this dish was the way the rice grains were cooked, it was just al dente. It was also infused with the right amount of flavor from the champagne and for an added touch, was topped with Caviar.
Risotto with Prawns and Capsicum Cream
Ready for next dish, I was then presented with their Risotto with Prawns and Capsicum Cream. This one looked more appetizing because the risotto just looked very appetizing. It was very creamy and chewy, which I liked. I then complemented the taste with a bite from the prawn. Hmm. It was very meaty!
Risotto with Baby Spinach Topped with Roasted Quail and Natural Juice
The third course was also just as tasty, thanks to the roasted quail topping and its natural sauce. Though, I did notice that it was a bit saltier than the first two risottos I’ve tried. But thanks to the tomato bits, it balanced out the saltiness and as a result, it was one dish that you should definitely try at Pontini Restaurant. The last of the course was, I believe, the fanciest Risotto dish of the bunch. It was topped with Foie Gras. When I sliced it, I noticed that oil came out of it and it just added to the flavor of this Risotto specialty.
Pear, Chocolate Tart and Tiramisu
Though I was a bit full by this point, I couldn’t pass up their desserts. Just by looking at the pictures on the menu, I knew that it was going to be…sweet! And so, out came the desserts: Pear, Chocolate Tart, Raspberry and Mango Sorbet, and the Tiramisu! The rest of the desserts were definitely good, but my favorite was the Pear, Chocolate Tart. Even though I was already full, I still managed to ate the whole serving! What I enjoyed about it was that it wasn’t too sweet. It also had a crunchy base but the topping was just so soft. It was the just perfect way to end my hearty meal at Pontini Restaurant. Have you tried their Special Italian Risottos already? Do let us know what you think of it and submit your own food review!
