Buon Appetito at Al Borgo
2012-04-26
For some good ol’ comfort food, most of us would probably go for Italian food. Who can resist a mouth-watering slice of cheesy pizza or rich and creamy pasta, right? And so, if ever you’re craving for any dishes, we suggest you take it up a notch by heading to a fancy Italian restaurant such as Al Borgo. This homey restaurant is located on the ground floor of Alocassia Apartments along Bukit Timah. When we say fancy, we don’t mean dishes that would cost you over 100 dollars just to have a satisfying meal. Most of their pasta and pizza dishes are priced between $20 to $30—the usual price of food for most mid-range restaurants nowadays. For their meat dishes, though, be prepared to spend more than the usual because these may cost you over $30. But worry not for these are worth your every dollar!
If that’s enough to make you book a table with at Al Borgo right away, then we suggest you start with their Crostone Bread with Cheese and Mushroom ($3.50 a piece). Order one and see how Chef Mimmo has made the bread really crispy outside yet soft on the inside. The highlight is the topping which is made of melted cheese and mushrooms!
For those who can’t get enough of mushrooms, then one recommendation is the Portobello Mushroom with Pesto and Prawn Sauce ($28). It has a generous serving of pasta and prawn sauce which blends perfectly well with the earthy and meaty flavor of the Portobello. There’s only one word to describe this: YUMMY!
Al Borgo is also known for their pastas, and one dish that’s worth a try is the Home-made Bigoli Pasta with Pan-Fried Beef and Porcini Mushroom ($35). It’s a little bit more on the expensive side since this one is one of their signature dishes. It’s not hard to see why for Chef uses home-made pasta noodles for this. To make it even grander, he adds in some juicy beef and mushrooms!
A visit to Al Borgo won’t be complete without trying these two more dishes—the Spinach Raviolo filled with Lamb in Capsicum Sauce ($35) and the Homemade Pork Sausage with Bread Potato ($24.50). The first dish is very eye-catching because of its green colour. The filling inside is quite strong for it is lamb meat which goes perfectly well with the ravioli coating. Chef Mimmo is an expert with the grill and makes his own sausages, so the second dish is also a must try! The pork sausages are very meaty inside so each slice can be pretty filling. It’s oh-so delicioso! Aside from the dishes, guests will be delighted to know that the restaurant has introduced Tuscan Grill Night every Wednesday. On this day, customers will get a complimentary glass of wine when they order any grilled main course. They can choose to enjoy this inside or at the al fresco area where the restaurant they will be showing live sports screenings from the English Premier League, Champions League, and F1 Season. To sweeten the experience, diners who have American Express credit cards will enjoy a 1-for-1 deal on house wines and beer on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (AMEX promo ends 30 June 2012 and not valid with other promotions). -- Address: 383 Bukit Timah Road, #01-02 Alocassia Apartments, Singapore 259727 Tel.
