Food Tasting: A Little Taste of Europe at Gourmet Plus
2013-08-23
Tucked away in East Coast is a cosy European restaurant that serves awesome French, Italian and Spanish cuisine. Gourmet Plus has been a mainstay in the East Cast dining scene since 2004, offering a large variety of European dishes including Duck Confit, Wagyu Beef Cheek, Tender Lamb Shank and many more. Last week, the gracious owners of the restaurant invited us and a group of lucky OpenRicers down for an exclusive food tasting session.
From left: Squid-ink Calamari, Pulpo ala Gallega, and Gilda on shot Gazpacho
We kicked off our 10-course meal with a few delectable entrees including Pulpo ala Gallega – boiled octopus on a bed of sliced potato topped with fish roe, Squid-ink Calamari with homemade garlic aioli, Gilda on shot Gazpacho – a skewer of marinated olive, chili, antxoas and baby onion in classic gazpacho soup presented in shot glass. “The Gilda on shot Gazpachio leaves a lingering spiciness and sourness on the tastebuds and is a refreshing starter to our 10-course dinner.” - Yizhen, OpenRicer
Haloumi & Green Olive Salad
Last but not least, on the list of starters we had that evening, was a serving of Haloumi & Green Olive Salad consisting of grilled haloumi cheese tossed with olive, rocket, Japanese cucumber, pine nuts, red onion and drenched in a light mustard dressing.
Clockwise from top left: Corn-fed Chicken, Coca Iberico Jamon Lomo & Rocket, Crispy Wagyu Beef Cheek, and Rabo de Toro
The mains came next, starting with a couple of Spanish dishes: Rabo de Toro, a spanish-style spicy oxtail stew with melt-in-your-mouth braised meat, and the Coca Iberico Jamon Lomo & Rocket, a spanish-style ham & rocket pizza. We also had a serving of Corn-fed Chicken with shiitake mushroom, roasted potato, essence of chicken demi & kitchen vegetables. The main highlight of the meal went to the Crispy Wagyu Beef Cheek; soft on the inside but crispy on the outside, perfectly paired with cheese mashed potatoes on the side.
Desserts from left: Bermuda Triangle of Chocolate and Nutty Chocolate Peppermint Ravioli
For desserts we had two gorgeous creations including the Bermuda Triangle of Chocolate – a trio of chocolate lava cake, white chocolate panna cotta, and a nutella parfait with kitchen berries that felt like heaven. Coupled with the Nutty Chocolate Peppermint Ravioli, coated with sugar bread crumbs, molasses amaretto, coconut waffle bits and paired with vanilla ice cream, it was a sweet end to our evening.
