World Gourmet Summit 2012
2012-04-25
The WGS kicked off on 23 April on the lively streets of Resorts World Sentosa’s Universal Studios – think bright fluorescent lights, buzzing crowds, and loads of great food!
The epicurean adventure of 2012 has begun! The World Gourmet Summit (WGS) is back for its 16th edition from 23 April to 3 May 2012. The culinary festivities will take place at various dining locations all over Singapore, such as Osia at Resorts World Sentosa, The Song of India and 2am:lab., to name a few places. Expect culinary masterclasses, vintner dinners and wine masterclasses at participating food establishments and some of Singapore’s finest dining venues. Fifteen renowned visiting chefs from all over the world (Australia, China, Denmark, France, Italy, Japan, Peru, Russia, Spain, UK, US) are participating in the WGS this year.
Headlining the cast of culinary luminaries is Marco Pierre White, who will present his creations at the Marco Pierre White Celebrity Chef Dinner on 27 April at Grand Hyatt Singapore
Some big names include British celebrity chef Marco Pierre White, award-winning Michelin Starred Indian chef Vikas Khanna, masterchef Albert Tse, and special guest chef Bruno Ménard, who’s set to become the only three-Michelin-starred chef to be permanently based and working exclusively right here in Singapore. Local chefs will also be showcasing their talents alongside the visiting chefs in the World Gourmet Summit’s Epicurean Delights – where special lunch and dinner menus will be presented for a limited period. The menus will feature specialty creations by the visiting chefs. The impressive line-up of local talents includes Janice Wong of 2am:lab, Jimi Tegerdine of LeVel33, Douglas Tay of Osia, Resorts World Sentosa Singapore, and Manjunath Mural of The Song of India, amongst many others.
Paco Roncero, one of the chefs gracing the WGS; Paco comes from a family rich in culinary traditions, and as with many other WGS chefs, he believes in balancing innovation with tradition when it comes to cooking
This year, the WGS pays homage to the theme A Heritage of Flavours, honouring classic culinary traditions from the world over while celebrating contemporary cooking methods and new, cutting-edge techniques. The festival’s participating international chefs will feature traditional recipes with a modern twist together with contemporary creations, all while staying true to the ingredients from their own culinary heritage.
Singapore provides the perfect backdrop for guest chefs of the WGS to share their own culinary traditions with local audiences
“In this way, the WGS provides an authentic platform for cultural and culinary exchange between the festival’s participating chefs and the Singapore public,” says Peter A Knipp, Principal, A La Carte Productions Pte Ltd, organiser of the WGS.
Who said wine’s for the old, snobbish, and serious?
Food aside, the WGS is also a great opportunity for wine enthusiasts to celebrate their passion. With the finest vintage wines gracing the tables of the WGS and various events such as wine masterclasses by well-known winemakers, you won’t be disappointed as a lover of wine! ---- What are you waiting for?
