Coccogelo at East Coast. Gelato with lots of varieties of flavours for you to choose from. The staffs are all friendly and cheerful. You can ask for sampling before buying and the staffs there are very willing to let you try a few. After trying out a handful of it, I decided to go for lychee sorbet and peanut butter and chocolate chip. They tasted very unique. Lychee is a mixture of sweetness and sourness while peanut butter and chocolate chip is sweet. All in all it is nice and smooth! continue reading

I had the chance to try out the gelato from Coccogelo last month when I went East Coast. There are lots of varieties of flavours for you to choose from, and the staff will also let you try flavours. After trying out some of them, I eventually decided on the pistachio and the lemon custard. The pistachio is a very unique taste. It is nutty and intense and just very yummy. The lemon custard is tart and sweet all together which is also great in my opinion. continue reading

Just a hop, skip and a jump away from Pavé Chocolates is Coccogelo, the latest newcomer on the artisan gelato scene in Singapore. The staff was great, very friendly and geniunely happy to let us sample all the flavours. And I didn’t sense even a teeny-weeny bit of impatience from them even though I took (as usual) a long time to decide on the ultimate flavours to get.I already had my heart set on a triple scoop but the thing is, after trying all the flavours available that day, I only really wanted Pistachio and Dark Chocolate (the rest was so-so to me). Then, my innocent question “there’s no Black Sesame today?” hit jackpot! Turned out that there’s a fresh batch of BS sitting in the kitchen, waiting to be sold the next day. Initially, the lady boss was adament and refused to sell it to me but after much pleading (haha), she relented, yay! It’s rich and intense enough, and the texture is good, very creamy and smooth. So much so that I wish there’s some bits of nuts or something in it to cut through the smoothness. And the melting rate here is a little too high for my liking. Yes yes, I know authentic gelato melts faster because it has less milk fat etc etc but this was way too fast for me. But still, any ice cream/gelato (especially homemade ones) always make me happy! In addition to the above-mentioned flavours, there’s Pina Colada, Strawberry, Coffee, Blueberry Cheesecake, Peanut Butter, Hazelnut, and Sweet Corn with Nutmeg~Flavours change daily so it’s a matter of being at the right place at the right time if you want to try a particular flavour. Speaking of which, Coccogelo has some pretty interesting flavours. Blue cheese with Honey, anyone? How about Spiced Apple Curry (which is way too exotic for my tastebuds)? And there was Roasted Honey Pumpkin gelato over the Halloween weekend which I missed, argh!FYI: Get your Piccolo (single scoop), Medio (double scoop) and Grande (triple scoop) for $3.80, $4.80 and $6.80 respectively. continue reading

Located along the eatery-lined stretch of East Coast Road, Coccogelo is yet another new addition to the local gelato scene. The flavors served here lean towards the more adventurous side. Out of the 10 different flavors available that day, I had already spotted Black Sesame, Lychee Yogurt, Banana Rum and Sweetcorn with Nutmeg. A Piccolo (single scoop), Medio (double scoop) and Grande (triple scoop) go for $3.80, $4.80 and $6.80 respectively. Coincidentally a top pick amongst customers, Coccogelo's pistachio definitely pleased with its delightfully deep and nutty flavor! The refreshing Strawberry flavor, though decent, could have been more intense. I also sampled the exotic Spiced Apple Curry, a surprisingly harmonious combination which I wouldn't mind having more of.While the gelato was satisfying dense, its texture was a tad harder and richer than most gelati, resembling ice cream somewhat. Nevertheless, I'm sure Coccogelo's spacious and lovely mural-adorned interior will soon attract many Katong residents seeking a tasty respite from the heat. continue reading
