I went to District 10 Bar & Restaurant for drinks vaguely before they moved to the new address, when they were still situated at Newton area. Today, I re-visited for brunch at their new location at 81 Clemenceau Avenue #01-15 / 16 / 17 UE Square Shopping Mall, Singqapore 239917 and the number to dial is 6738 4788.The interior of District 10 Bar & Restaurant is sleek, contemporary and of rustic European design, complete with exquisite wood furniture of eco-friendly nature. The cosy, relaxed ambience brings comfort to diners but unfortunately the inside is fully-reserved.Hence, we decided to sit by the lovely and breezy open-concept bar area, outdoors. It was spacious and I felt more exhilarated somehow, able to do people watching and enjoying the kiss of morning sun.My Fried Eggs with bacon, mushrooms, roasted tomato, hash brown, vegetables and chicken chipolata sausage (SGD$14.00) was served first. I like eggs for brunch as I believe them to be nutritious - fried or not. Morever, the combination of egg-yolks smeared over my bread slice, tucked in with sauteed mushrooms and sourish tomatoes or crispy hash browns, was simply irresistable. The taste was overwhelmingly delicious, my idea of a perfect brunch.Celine* had the Creamy Scrambled Eggs (SGD$14.00) version of my breakfast - served with muffin, oriental mushrooms, hash brown and roasted tomatoes as well. Another sumptuous brunch of differentiating textures and tastes, hers was more unique with the acquired flavor of spring onion in the egg, giving it an interesting boost of aroma. For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to pop by:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/04/brunch-at-district-10-bar-restaurant.html continue reading

My perception towards District 10 was “Oh, it’s a chill out places for drinks”. But I was wrong. This place does serve brunch session as well. District 10 Bar & Restaurant in UE Square mall serves modern European cuisine, quality food and affordable drinks. The restaurant has recently undergoing revamping end of last year and they have a private dinning room now. The private dinning room can fit up to 12 pax and reservation is required. You may have special request for your menu as well. District 10 also has more tables to its outdoor area to chill out which is still under shelter. On weekends, you will see a large bouncing castle set up next to the outdoor restaurant for brunching families with kids. It is a brilliant idea as the parents can enjoy their brunch while the kids can have fun at the same time.I started off with a refreshing drink called Antioxidant S$13++ serve with peach, green apple, mango and strawberry.Pizza with Wagyu Beef Cheek Rendang S$29++ served in thin crusted layer of pizza with localized taste of rendang.District 10 Brunch Beef burger S$20++ was our favourite pick of all. The serving comes with charcoal grilled black angus patties topped with fried egg, cripsy back bacon, cheddar cheese on a sesame bun and served with natural cut fries. Loving the tenderness and juiciness of the beef patties and it compliments well with the combination ingredients.Hoegaarden Battered Fish & Chips with Mint Mushy Peas and Tartare Sauce S$22++. Battered fish was nicely done with golden brown crispy skin and soft and smooth texture in the inside.District 10 Eggs Benedict S$16++ served with poached eggs on toasted muffin and sauteed spinach, smoked salmon & hollandaise sauce. Poached eggs were nicely done with smooth flowing egg yolk that flows on the toasted muffin.Pandan Coconut Pancake with Gula Melaka Syrup S$9++ that comes with a big serving for one pax. I personally feel that it can be shared with 2pax as the pancake size is big and thick. The taste of it is very much localized with sweetness taste of gula melaka syrup. On the other side note, District 10 is having Happy Hour promotion for the 1-for-1 draft beer, housepour spirits, housepour wine by the glass and exotic gin tonics is available daily from 11am to 8pm, with gourmet pizzas at additional $10 nett only. continue reading

The kind folks at District 10 extended an invitation to try out a couple of their signature dishes and since I was in town, I appreciatively made my way down to their outlet @ UE Square one weekday evening.District 10 is both a bar and a restaurant and offers both indoor and al fresco seating at a rather prominent corner of UE Square. I personally like the wooden interior and high ceilings but the vibe is actually more of a pub than a restaurant. Good for a casual dinner but probably not so much for a romantic date.Complimentary Bread - This used to be one of the best complimentary bread in my dictionary (back in 2007 when I first tried Bonta). Unfortunately the bread now is but a shadow of its former self. The bread was burnt which gave it a slightly bitter taste whilst the feta cheese within came across as a tad sour. How the quality has deteriorated!Green Asparagus, Fried Egg Sunny Side Up, Sage Butter - I honestly didn't know what to make of this dish. Asparagus, sunny side up and cheese? $18++? Seriously?Pan-fried Goose Liver, Wild Berries Sauce & Balsamic Syrup - The foie gras lacked a well seared crust and wasn't as smooth or quivery as I had expected to be. But at least the wild berry sauce did help to cut down a little on the nausea.Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, Mustard Dressing, Sauteed Wild Mushrooms - This was a waste of wagyu beef in my humble opinion as it didn't elevate this dish past the average mark. Normal beef would have done the trick. And I personally dislike mustard.Homemade Angel Hair Pasta with Lobster, Peperoncino, Basil & Fresh Tomatoes - I was looking forward to this but unfortunately it didn't quite pan out. The angel hair pasta was way too soft and stodgy from all the gravy that it was plain unappetising. Even the crunchy lobster pieces failed to lift this dish out of the mess. ps: the presentation needs working on as well.Homemade Foie Gras Ravioli, Light Parmesan Sauce & Scamorza Cheese - This was probably the best dish of the evening in my humble opinion. The ravioli did come across as a tad too thick but the taste of the foie gras was noticeable and not overwhelmed by the light parmesan sauce. Just watch out for the wooziness.Crispy Goose Leg Confit, Roasted Garlic, Soft Potato Mousse - Mildly crisp skin but overly salty and dry. Pretty much sums up the goose confit.Signature Black Angus Beef Striploin, Fried Eggs & Black Truffle - I appreciated the black truffle but I fail to comprehend the sunny side up. Nonetheless, the beef was done to a nice medium rare but came across as rather bland and a tad tough. Average dish overall.Roasted Atlantic Cod Medallion, Spanish Smoked Paprika & Herbs Oil - The cod was decently executed without much fanfare - tender flesh with a hint of sweetness. Lacked the oomph to elevate it past the average mark.Cinnamon Apple Fritters with Icing Sugar - And finally, desserts. I found the cinnamon apple fritters a pretty interesting concept except that there was way too much cinnamon powder sprinkled over the fritters that it was unnerving (for me at least). I was expecting a sweet finish but it ended up slightly sourish because of the apple. Can't say I'm a fan.Traditional Italian Tiramisu - My absolute favourite Italian dessert. Unfortunately District 10's rendition didn't quite excite. The mascarpone to sponge ratio was a little lopsided in favour of the former whilst the latter came across as a tad dry. Acceptably average.See all my pictures at http://www.timelessfacade.com/2014/03/district-10-bar-restaurant-invite.html continue reading

For more details, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.com/2014/01/district-10-bar-restaurant.htmlThe whole dining area can be divided into 3 sections, mainly outdoor for al fresco diners such as bar bites and cocktails, indoor for gourmet diners, as well as a private dining room to host some private dining events! With these 3 sections being lined up, it does aim to accommodate a wider group of diners.Bulldog Watermelon and Kaffir Lime Gin and Tonic ($20.00) and Fords Sugarcane and Mint Gin and Tonic ($20.00), differentiated by the piece of fruit hanging onto the rim.D10 Punch ($34.00) is a blend of Moscato wine, Crème de cassis, dark rum, apples, strawberries, mixed berries and ginger ale. Of course, this can be shared among 3-4 pax. Walnut Focaccia is their complimentary Homemade starter bread. Feta cheese and sundried tomatoes wrapped within the outer-crispy bread, and has to go with the dipping of the greenish sauce to enjoy it fully Green Asparagus, Fried Egg Sunny Side Up, and Sage Butter ($18.00). I love asparagus, and theirs are not too soft and crunchy too!Pan-fried Goose Liver, Wild Berries Sauce and Balsamic Syrup ($20.00). One word... Splendid!Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, Mustard Dressing, Sauteed Wild Mushrooms ($18.00).Homemade Angel Hair Pasta with Lobster, Peperoncino, Basil and Fresh Tomatoes ($38.00) *Bonta favorites. Thick sauce that clings the pasta, making it easy to roll on your fork and into your mouth. I can simply request for another serving...Roasted Atlantic Cod Medallion, Spanish Smoked Paprika and Herbs Oil ($32.00). Cod fish is my favorite fish, because their meat seems soft and silky in my mouth.Crispy Goose Leg Confit, Roasted Garlic, and Soft Potato Mousse ($26.00).Homemade Foie Gras Ravioli, Light Parmesan Sauce and Scamorza Cheese ($34.00) *Bonta favorites. Does it resemble something that we used to have it in our coffeeshop's soup noodle stores? Signature Black Angus Beef Striploin, Fried Eggs and Black Truffle ($36.00). Prime beef grilled over hot charcoal, served with natural cut fries and mixed salad. The mushroom gravy over at the back is a must try.Overall this dish is awesome, if not for the overcooked beef? At least I find it so, as I'm used to having my steak at medium-rare.Traditional Italian Tiramisu ($14.00). Personally, I find it too wet, and pretty much like eating "drenched" spongecake?Cinnamon Apple Fritters with Icing Sugar ($12.00). I was looking so much to start my fork on this, till I realized the apple in the fritter is too sour.. If it can be a little sweeter, this will be my dessert for the night. For more details, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.com/2014/01/district-10-bar-restaurant.html continue reading

The flagship outlet of District 10 Bar & Restaurant at UE Square has recently unveiled a new gastrobar dining concept which incorporates both gourmet and casual under one roof. Boasting of two separate menus that reflect the decor of the two spaces, the Al Fresco menu- matching its chilled ambiance is all about bar bites and cocktails while the Dining Room menu- similar to its sleek finishing comprises of more elegant options, Italian-inspired cuisine and an extensive list of boutique wine labels. We dropped by on a weekday evening and got a sample of The Dining Room menu. While options are not exactly extensive, the prices are affordable, with Starters starting from $13++, Mains from $24++ and a Black Angus Ribeye for $28++. Old Bonta fans will find a few signature offerings familiar while others like me who had never dined at Bonta before it closed a few months back, will be in for a satisfying gourmet experience.Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, Mustard Dressing, Sautéed Wild Mushrooms $18++I am no fan of raw food or carpaccio styled cuisine but this admittedly was a tad more palatable than my previous encounters. The wagyu beef was sliced a little thicker than usual- Italian style but the mustard marinade made the flavor of the meat less overwhelming. Not exactly my favorite of the lot because of my initial bias but the plating was undoubtedly aesthetically appealing.Crispy Goose Leg Confit, Roasted Garlic, Soft Potato Mousse $29++While Duck Confit is mainstream, Goose Leg Confit is a tad more indie and less common. I dont quite understand why though because it was just as luxuriously fatty and succulent as its duck cousin. Though some mentioned that the meat in this one was a bit dry, I thought it was just right.Signature Black Angus Beef Striploin, Fried Eggs & Black Truffle $36++While the black truffle smell of this platter was undeniably irresistible and that gorgeous sunny-side up glistening under the light stole our attention, the most understated highlight of this dish turned out to be the natural cut fries fried in GOOSE FAT! Mind.blown. really. One does not go back to eating ordinary fries after having had goose fat fried fries. Yes it is unhealthy and yes it is probably disastrous to your waistline but the flavor, caramelization and crispy edges on every individual fry was so beautifully sinful. I believe adding a little truffle oil to the mix will just tip the scales and bring it up a notch. The striploin on the other hand sadly, was rather forgettable. If you were hoping for creative and unique desserts, then this District 10 Chocolate Sundae with Roasted Nuts $12++ is as interesting as you will get. Desserts are not really District 10's strong suit so you may want to fill yourself up with the starters and mains instead. But if you must, the Cinnamon Apple Fritters $12++ and Warm Apple Crumble $14++ may be one of the better few picks. In short, there is no denying that the food here at District 10 is generally good. There were a couple of standouts and dishes which I would specially return to the restaurant for. With that said, I would be more inclined towards checking out their Al Fresco menu instead on my next visit- their Pizzas and Small Bites do sound drool-worthy and the space makes for a welcoming chill-out session. For full review and photos: http://gninethree.com/2013/11/19/district-10-bar-restaurant-ue-square/ continue reading
