continue reading

One of my favourite childhood food at Maxwell Food Centre still available selling was this Oyster Cake.Unlike other Oyster cake sold at pasar malam or some hawker centre, this Oyster cake taste different.Although the skin looked burnt, this burnt looked gave the special taste to this Oyster cake. The skin was very crispy and fragrant, though it tasted slightly to the oily side. The inside of the Oyster cake was filled with marinated minced pork, generous amount of oysters, and a few prawns. The taste of the Oyster cake was very flavourful.Although I found that the cheaper one without the prawns tasted better because the prawns were not marinated. It was just a cooked prawn inside the fillings, giving a crunchy bite with not much of a flavour enchancement.Overall, I find this Oyster cake was still the best tasting as compared to other stalls in Singapore. continue reading

I came here for lunch and decided to get a fried oyster from this stall. I get to choose whether i want oyster or not. If without oyster is $1.50 but if with oyster then is $2. I decided to have it with oyster. A fried oyster cake would not be an oyster cake if without oyster. The fried oyster cake did not feel as hot as expected and it tasted quite oily. Other than the oyster, it has got minced meat in it. I do think $2 is a bit overpriced for such a piece of traditional snack. It did not taste the best as i ever eaten better ones. continue reading

I have never tried eating oyster cakes before so when I saw it in Maxwell, I decided to try it. Since it is my first time trying it, I decided to get the one with the oyster. I actually find it quite funny that the normal one is without oyster since I thought oyster cakes, being so named, should have oysters in them. Anyway, a batch of oyster cakes are already pre fried so it isnt warm when I got it. Perhaps it is because it has been sitting out for sometime, the oyster cake is quite oily in my opinion. However, it is still quite tasty and well-seasoned so tastewise it is ok. If it is freshly fried, I believe the taste will be better. continue reading

There is only one word to describe the oyster cake---fantastic! At first I am seeing that the why the oyster cake is so dark, either the oil or it is over cooked. Have a try and I know I am totally wrong with my assumption. There are two types to choose from (1) veg, pork and prawn wrapped in a golden-fried crisp ($1.50) or (2) with addition of oyster ($2). Of course must choose the oyster one, the oyster gives you an erm... additional boost, you know. It is big. MUST MUST TRY. continue reading
