Long lines were snaking out of the stall front so we decided to line up and see what the fuss is about.Presentation isn't exactly their forte, but their intestines were very tasty and yummy. The duck was marinated well as each slice was thick and flavorful. The downside was that the meat wasn't cut properly so the pieces tend to get stuck in the teeth and was not a very pleasant experience. continue reading

I always liked to try different stalls in Hong Lim as there are a lot of stalls selling very nice food. Just yesterday, I had kway chap at Ah Heng Duck Rice. I was actually quite surprised that it sells kway chap, but my hubby said the kway chap is not bad, so I gave it a try.I ordered the $4 portion with an extra kway as my hubby loves their kway. The $4 portion has pork belly, an egg, salted vegetable, tau pok and pork innards. The pork belly is really tasty with the fats which melt in your mouth. It is even better with their chilli. The ingredients are braised very well and not too overly salty. I also enjoyed the soup for the kway as it has a little herbal taste. The kway is also not too thick nor too thin such that it breaks easily. On the whole, I enjoyed it a lot. continue reading

If you frequent the other braised duck stall at Tekka Food Centre then you might find the taste of this particular braised duck to be quite familiar. You might even wonder whether these 2 stalls are related. This stall owner used to run that particular stall at Tekka Food Centre but i heard he sold the stall off and started this one at Hong Lim Food Centre. He is related to another famous braised duck rice stall in Sin Ming. That particular stall is manned by one of his relatives. I was here after lunch in the vicinity. I decided to take away 6 pieces of duck wings and a liver for dinner later. I enjoyed the familiar taste. The braised sauce has got the well-balanced saltiness and it blended pretty well with the duck meat to give it the aromatic taste. The texture of the meat has got the likable tenderness to give it the just right chewiness. The level of spiciness for their chilli is much spicier as compared to the other stall in Sin Ming. You could actually see the bits and pieces of chilli and seeds in the sauce. The price is slightly higher as compared to his old stall and the other stall in Sin Ming too. And, i actually prefer the other stall in Sin Ming to this. continue reading

This braised duck rice stall is good. The gravy is savoury without being overly sweet. It also flows quite well so it does not stick too much to the rice. The duck was quite well braised and tender. The gravy thus complemented the duck really well. The chilli sauce was also pretty well done; the owner told us he made his own chilli. That's quite rare for many stalls nowadays. continue reading

While we were enjoying our food, when next table happen to order a whole dish of braised duck from this stall. One look it looked good and the good people at the next table were also enjoying it. We could not resist it, took the liberty to order a mixed plate of braised duck and pork. What looks good may not taste as good. When the dish was served I took a sip of the braised sauce it tasted very salty, it does not have the sweetness of the braised sauce. The duck meat does not seem to gel well with the sauce. It tasted plain. The pork tasted like the duck. For a plate of braised duck and pork it cost $6.50. continue reading
