Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun 港式猪肠粉 is located at Mee Sek Food Court along Upper Serangoon Road (5 minutes from Kovan MRT station). This stall is located in the same place as the famous Punggol Nasi Lemak. I was actually having dinner eating my Fried Hokkien Mee from Yi Ji Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles 福建炒虾面 when I noticed this stall. What caught my eye was that each piece of Chee Chong Fun was freshly made upon order, the traditional way (using a cloth)! Not factory made! In addition, other than having having Char Siew or Prawns fillings, they had unique fillings such as Mushrooms or Chicken. Apparently, the stall has been operating for more than 30 years. Mushroom Chee Cheong Fun $2.50Hence, after gorging 1 plate of Fried Hokkien Mee, I ordered a plate of Mushroom Chee Cheong Fun $2.50. Mushroom Chee Cheong Fun $2.50The Chee Cheong Fun with mushroom fillings.Mushroom Chee Cheong Fun $2.50Soy sauce and sesame seeds were added over the Chee Cheong Fun. From the taste of it, I believe that a little sesame oil was added with the soy sauce resulting the extra flavour in the sauce. The rice rolls were thin and the slices of mushroom were fragrant. The chilli at the side was terrible. Dry, not fragrant and a little spicy, it was not my 'cup of tea'. Overall, it was quite a decent plate of Chee Cheong Fun, but its not the best. Though i will be in Hong Kong in early December but i could not help but craving for the Hong Kong style Chee Cheong Fun. I was definitely excited when chanced upon this stall. This stall is located right at the corner and beside the Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodle stall. The location is not too prominent and might be missed out pretty easily. They are in the same coffee shop with the famous Punggol Nasi Lemak. I went ahead to order a serving with Char Siew as filling for $2.50. There are also the mushroom, prawns and shredded chicken available for selection. Other than the different fillings Chee Cheong Fun, this stall offers different Hong Kong style porridge like Century Egg Porridge, Fish Porridge, Pork Porridge, Shredded Chicken Porridge and Cuttlefish Porridge on their menu. I was told to come back in 15 minutes to collect it. It was ready when i went back to collect. The lady boss served it with a friendly smile. It was placed in a pool of soya sauce with chilli by the side then topped with a handful of sesame seeds. The rice sheet was nicely done to give it the right thickness with the desired softness. The amount of Char Siew filling was just right. The minced Char Siew tasted well. The taste was nicely enhanced by the generous bits of sesame seeds added. The soya sauce has got the right saltiness to complement the Chee Cheong Fun perfectly.I did not quite appreciate the type of chilli that served along so l left it untouched. I would think the Chee Cheong Fun tasted nice by itself. If you are fan of Hong Kong style Chee Cheong Fun then this stall is definitely worth trying. This is amongst the few stalls in Singapore that managed to get its texture and taste close. continue reading
