Introduction
Italian food is usually a more premium cuisine, Meaning premium prices. Why is its so expensive to buy Italian food in Singapore? Firstly, the cost of Italian ingredients, all imported stuff. Next, the full table and European service, manpower to do service. Lastly chefs high salary which result to restaurant has to do fine dining concept. PocoLoco is your first Italian restaurant that will be doing something otherwise, except for the high quality food. The small restaurant was located at the first floor of a sleepy HDB block. Although it was weekday night, one could not help but notice that the restaurant was packed with a queue of about 5 people. The restaurant had both indoor and outdoor dine in area. Indoor supposed to air con but one just could not feel the coolness of it. By the way the place did not serve ice water. If you ask for it, the staff expected you to buy mineral water for $2 from them.Menu was a large single page. Please take note that there was a weekly special. This week was Beef Cheek, which was not written on board, nor was I told about it when my order was taken.I was showed to a table indoor, which still has puddles of water left by the previous customers. Just wished that the staff had cleaned the table before asking the customers in. By the way the staffs were a bit rough in cleaning part. Got a hit, when the staff was wiping the table next to me.Do remember your order. I received wrong dish, so did the 2 tables next to me. The table on my left was worse. They had finished their mains and the soup came almost the same time as the dessert. And it was after they had reminded the staff about the soup and they were sitting right in front of the kitchen.Lasagne ($8/ appetizer portion)Layered pasta with bologneseThe pasta was soft and moist, topped with a rich layered of melted cheese. It was quite hot when served.Capesante ($12)bake scallops with capsicum puree and flavoured butterI was a bit disappointed in it. The scallops were a bit tough than I expected, and could not really balance with rich pink sauce.Zuppe di Melone ($5)chilled melon soup with parma hamThe soup was served in a rather small soup. It was refreshing and cooling. It was like rock melon juice, topped with pieces of parma ham. The combination of the sweet of the fruit and savoury salty taste of ham was an unique combination.Do remember which was your table when paying the bill after meal. The staffs had a bit of problem of that when billing. There was no number on table to tell the staffs too. continue reading
