My second-chance dinner at Portico Prime was outstanding, compared to the so-so lunches at Portico Alexandra. Not a wrong move with every dish. Execution was fantastic, and each plate was a colourful kaleidoscope of textures and flavours.If I had one gripe, it would be about the indoor premises, which was stifling and humid, despite the tall ceilings, open-concept layout and supposed air-conditioning. Sit outdoors on a cool drizzly day instead.We had:1) Seared Hokkaido Scallops ($14): whilst salty on their own, scallops were perfectly countered with the crisp cos lettuce beds of grated pecorino, a lovely runny sous vide 63C egg, dehydrated bacon, and brown anchovy mayo2) Chilled Truffle-Scented Angel Hair ($14) - with avruga caviar, crunchy kawa ebi shrimp, and dehydrated kombu shio: intensely aromatic, insanely delicious and a must-try.3) Pan-Seared Pulau Ubin Barramundi ($19): fish was moist and flaky, its skin beautifully crisp. Roasted ratte potatoes were flecked with semi-dried tomatoes, and seasoned with a wonderfully citrusy carrot ginger puree swirled with trout roe beurre blanc. The high tea includes a starter plate and a high tea stand which comprises of four-tier of bite size sweets, savouries, cookies, chocolate and scones.It also comes with a either a free flow choice of Coffee or (one flavour) Twinings from the Large-Leaf Discovery Tea Collection. I love my pick of Rose Garden tea which turns out well when paired with the food. As the name implies, it is towards the floral flavour and I personally think it’s perfect for a high tea.The four-tier high tea add up to 12 items in total - three savouries items, six sweets items, two cookies and chocolates items and a scone with homemade spread. It's a right hit to my savoury tastebuds and I would say it would be a crowd pleaser among Singaporeans too. In such a frantic city and during such fast-paced times, it’s comforting to know that everything can still stop for tea. Located on the tranquil Dempsey Hill, Portico Prime has recently launch an afternoon tea that will engage the senses and revitalise weary soul.Diners can choose to enjoy their tête–à–tête session in Portico Prime’s gorgeous interior, or at the patio, amongst lush greenery.Its evident that much dedication has been put into the conceptualisation of the afternoon tea menu, Portico Favourites, a collection of well-loved dishes amongst Portico’s regular customers, staff and owners. Every item is made from scratch in house, using sustainable ingredients. The fresh herbs and edible flowers are harvested from Portico Prime’s gardens.Right off the bat, Portico Prime wowed us an appetizer trio of fine dining standards. The Chilled Truffle Scented Angel Hair Pasta is utterly divine! Not only is the truffle flavour prominent, the capellini is topped with a generous portion of avruga caviar and a crunchy kawa ebi shrimp. The Crostini of Asian-cured Salmon Gravlax with coriander creme fraiche was a refreshing change to the usual smoked salmon item typically present in afternoon tea sets. Another exceptional starter is the Skewer of Tiger Prawn, where the crustacean’s natural sweetness is highlighted by compressed melon sheet, tobiko roe and brandy sauce.The rest of the treats are presented on a pretty wooden stand, complete with faux grass.Savoury morsels include Chilli Crab Meat Eclair with a spicy kick, fluffy Fish Otak Otak Toast with crispy edges and Squid and Salted Egg Croquette that boast a delicious creamy core encased within a well-fried exterior which remained crisps despite a long photo taking session.Petite sweets are aplenty, in fact, they occupy 3 of the 4 tiers. The soft, yet dense and smooth Chilled Cheesecake comes with dollops of mango gel and mini passion fruit spheres that pop in the mouth. The Mini Deconstructed Blackforest and Baked Apple Crumble Tart with sweet basil cream were delightful too.Bandung Rose Cream fills up the buttery short crust pastry in the Strawberry and Lychee Tart while the White Chocolate Bark studded with pistachio nuts and cranberry, captivates with it’s dreamy soft consistency. I’m usually not a fan of carrot cakes (encountered too many dry, boring ones in the past) but Portico Prime’s Homemade Carrot Cake won my heart with its light, moist texture, and interesting pairing of maple cream cheese frosting.The homemade peanut butter and confetti cookies may look ordinary, but took us by surprise with its marvellous buttery and crumbly texture. I certainly wouldn’t mind having this on a daily basis for breakfast! The Marsala Chai Tea Cake with honey ginger cream and orange confit also left a lasting impression.The freshly baked California Natural Raisins and Citrus Peel Scones were served with homemade Kaya, seasonal preserves and clotted cream. The highlight here would definitely be the sugar-free Kaya, made using honey that is locally produced. I could do with some plain scones though, as the raisins and citrus peel in the scones distract the taste buds from enjoying the Kaya to the fullest.Portico Prime’s afternoon tea is available from 3pm-5pm daily (except Monday), is priced at $48 per pax (min 2 to dine) and includes free-flow Twinnings Tea or Dutch Colony Coffee Co. Anyone looking for an extra oomph of luxury can opt for a glass of Torresella Prosecco Brut NV Italy bubbly for an additional $10. Portico Prime, sister arm of Portico, took over the space at Dempsey hill which used to be The Prime Society, serving modern european cuisines.My man and I had their 3-course Festive set lunch priced at $48++ per pax and we enjoyed it.Starters1) Bread and butter- The highlight here was the seaweed butter. Consume together with the sundried tomato bread, it's was yum! A great start to my festive lunch. Rating 4/5.(2) Jerusalem Artichoke Soup- Parmesan and sesame tuile; crispy, savoury with fragrance from the roasted sesame. Blue swimmer crab croquette was packed with firm crabmeat, deep fried till crispy. Seafood freshness was clearly presently in every bite into the crabmeat. My only complain? Too small piece! A bite of croquette with a mouthful of artichoke soup, it was so rich, sinful and delicious. Rating 4/5.(3) Smoked Salmon Mousseline- The most pretty dish of all courses. Salmon mousse was creamy and texture real smooth. Served chilled and it's like eating salmon gelato. Before I forked it, I was quite worried that there might be overwhelming "fishy" taste which I'm afraid of but the pickled radish and shallots helped in reducing it. The crispy pumpernickel crumbs and salmon roe also helps in bringing up some crunchiness and lesser the mushy. The most love part were the thin salmon skin crisps! Rating 3.5/5.Mains4) Roasted Pork Belly with Crackling- Meat was marinated till flavourful, taste of chinese spices was pretty strong but was slight salty for me, still it was delicious. Pork was paired with sherry pork sauce, with hints of sweetness and light alcohol aftertaste. Unfortunately the pork belly skin wasn't crackling otherwise it would have scored higher with my tastebuds. Pumpkin purée that was supposed to carry ginger scent wasn't distinctive at all. Rating 4/5.(5) Roulade of Turkey with wild mushrooms- This turkey dish surprised me with wild mushroom hidden inside the meat roulade. Mushroom taste was rather strong, It actually helped to reduce the overpowering thyme marinates found on the meat. Together with the poultry jus and brandy cranberries, the overall taste was more well-balanced. Roasted seasoned potatoes with herbs tasted great too and I don't mind having them alone as a starter or snack. Rating 3/5.Desserts6) Max Felchlin 64% Chocolate and hazelnut mousse- Dessert!!! A girl's best friend Marron ice cream was bery sweet with strong nutty aftertaste. What won me over was the homemade prune and armagnac jam, it worked so well with the chocolate hazelnut mousse! Weird marriage but tasted good! Rating 4/5.*** A classy restaurant with nice ambience and attentive servers. No complains at all for their good service. Food and plating were definitely of high standards. When you're there, you might want to take their alfresco seatings overseeing Portico's own herbs garden, very relaxing and great if drinking a glass or two.
