I was at Tiong Bahru Plaza for a movie and decided to try Xiao Xuan Feng. Xiao Xuan Feng has 2 outlets. One at Tiong Bahru Plaza while the other at Hougang Mall. Their menu is quite extensive ranging from hot cooked food, dim sum and noodles. I tried their La Mian since it was made freshly at the spot.The Stewed Beef La Mian had a generous serving of beef chunks and beef balls. The soup was tasty and the noodles had the smooth, silky and springy texture. The Fried Ribs La Mian was bland but the noodles itself was good. The fried ribs were not crispy at all and oily. The Shanghai Pork Dumplings were average. I felt that skin was too thick.

Xiao Xuan Feng offers a variety of La Mian and Chinese Dim Sum.We choose the outdoor seats as it was a cooling night. Seated on the wooden chairs and looking at the lamp that looks like the kerosene lamp used in the past, dining here seems to transport me back in time. What's more, water was served in retro glass jars which used to contain jam. The giant black and white photograph of an old Kopitiam as the backdrop and some bird cages hanging at the ceiling further enhance the old style theme. I have their breaded prawn fried rice and it was nicely served on a keropok! Interesting, but the keropok is tasteless and not crispy anymore. The Japanese style ebi prawn is average only. For better taste, I think still have to visit a Japanese Restaurant. Tried my friend's Curry Laksa Steam Chicken La Mian and I was addicted! This is a must try dish. The chicken is smooth and tender and they added a special sauce which make the chicken sweet. Curry Laksa so there's a combination of curry taste and laksa. It really is a great combination.Don't go home without trying Xiao Xuan Feng's signature durian puffs. While it may not be comparable to Goodwood Park Hotel's durian pastries, it certainly is value-for-money. Their dumplings are exceptionally delicious too. A great place for dinner.
