A Taste of Authentic Taiwan Street Delicacy at Lee’s Taiwanese
2013-10-04
Last week, a group of our OpenRicers had the exclusive opportunity to dine at Lee’s Taiwanese together with the Owner, Fiona Lee. During the session, they got to savour a range of authentic Taiwanese delicacies; recipes which Fiona learned from many chefs when she first stepped into the F&B business.
Restaurant manager, Penny, sharing with us the menu for the evening
Over at Lee’s Taiwanese Star Vista outlet, Fiona and her team wanted to give every diner the complete Taiwan dining experience from the food down to the ambiance. Patrons can choose to sit either indoors or at the al fresco area where they can enjoy their food under the lanterns; FYI, these were decorated there to give an authentic feel of the Taiwan night markets. The restaurant’s interior was designed to resemble night market vendors!
Signature Taiwanese beverages to quench your thirst
Restaurant Manager Penny welcomed us with warm hospitality and recommended their homemade drinks: Homemade Winter Melon Tea (left) and Taiwan Pearl Milk Tea (right), which are popular among their locals. Perfect for the humid tropical weather, the Homemade Winter Melon Tea can help relieve heat from the body. In spite of its health benefits; most of our members still preferred the Taiwan Pearl Milk Tea, which had a velvety mouth-feel and a mild red tea. Fiona also revealed that the pearls are freshly-prepared daily to attain that firm yet chewy texture.
Delectable appetizers to begin the meal are great to have as finger food alongside drinks
Delectable appetizers to begin the meal are great to have as finger food alongside drinks When the street snacks were served, our OpenRicers couldn’t wait to dig in as the aroma was just so irresistible! The Chicken Chop (top left) was crisp on the outside and the meat within remained moist. Prepared like popcorn, the bite-sized Salt & Pepper Chicken (bottom left) had an addictive seasoning and we couldn’t help but continue popping it in our mouths. Our members enjoyed the silky Century Egg Tofu (top right) and the Sweet Potato Fries (bottom right).
We were totally spoilt for choices with so many delicious Taiwanese dishes!
Fans of the popular mee sua store in Taiwan will be able to savour something similar as the rice noodles in Pig Intestines & Meat Ball Mee Sua (top right) comes from the same supplier. For beef lovers, the broth used to prepare the Beef Noodles (centre right) was specially prepared by Fiona to enhance the flavour. Known to many Americans as the Taiwanese Burger (bottom left), it had a decadent slice of pork belly accompanied by crushed peanuts for that crunch factor. Among all these delicious items, no doubt the top pick of the night went to their signature Braised Mince Pork Rice (top left), which was so delicious as the fatty bits sweltered away in the mouth. After indulging on so much specialties prepared by Fiona, we concluded our dinner with a huge bowl of Signature Mixed Crush Ice (bottom right) consisting of yam, green bean, red bean topped with brown sugar. The usual portion is good for 2 to 3 persons to share unless you want to risk having a brain freeze by yourself!

All of us enjoyed our dinner experience as Fiona shared with us that the menu here was inspired by her memories of Keelung Night Market known for its smorsgabord of Taiwanese street food. However, the food she serves here are better in terms of quality as she emphasizes a lot on using the best ingredients available. Come visit Lee’s Taiwanese and savour some of the best Taiwan delicacies without needing a passport. Promotion: Lee’s Taiwanese is celebrating their first anniversary and from now till 31st October, you can enjoy a Yam Balls Dessert at only *$1 with every set meal ordered. (*only payable with the new Singapore’s 3rd series one dollar coin)
