Chicken Up Opens in Parkway Parade
2015-12-15
It all started in 2010 when Luke Yi, the founder of Chicken Up, decided to introduce the distinctive Korean Fried Chicken to the Singaporean market. Now, the casual Korean restaurant has a whopping 7 outlets scattered around the island – Tanjong Pagar, Tampines, Jurong East, Buangkok, Bugis, Dover and their newest location, Parkway Parade, where OpenRice was invited to host a tasting session with our members.

Located on the first floor of the mall, its interior boasts a distinctive wall of decorative jars and warm pendant lights that adds to its agreeable ambience, perfect for a chill-out session with family and friends.
pineapple soju
ganjang chicken wings
If you’ve been to Korea, you’ll know that the locals enjoy their chicken with soju, so naturally, we started our feast at Chicken Up with Pineapple Soju ($30) and Ganjang (Soya) Chicken Wings ($12). With the Pineapple Soju, we recommend slow sips as it is sweet, addictive and rather high in alcohol content. And rated as one of the best dishes of the night – 4.4 out of 5 points among our members – was the Ganjang (Soya) Chicken Wings, which was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and definitely cemented its reputation for being one of the best Korean fried chickens in Singapore.
topokki
For anyone who loves Topokki (rice cakes) and can handle spicy dishes well, you have to try the Topokki with Cheese and Seafood ($20). Stir the cheese well into the dish and savour it together with the other ingredients as it helps to neutralize the spiciness of the Korean gochujang (red chilli paste).
yangnyum chicken wings
Yangnyum Chicken Wings ($12) was rated as the best dish that night, scoring 4.6 out of 5 points. Generously coated with Korean style sweet chilli sauce, each wing was tasty and flavourful, yet tender and juicy on the inside.
ugly tang stew
For those of you who are looking for soupy dishes, this Ugly Tang Stew ($30) would be the right dish for you. Unlike its dish name, this army stew dish is one good-looker and looks especially appetising when it comes to a boil! We were also served many other dishes, such as Makguksu ($12) – cold buckwheat noodle salad, Jabchae ($14) – stir-fried glass noodles and Kimchi – Pajeon ($18) – kimchi and green onion pancake.
bulgogifries
Let's not forget one of the restaurant's must-tries, the Bulgogi Fries ($18). Thinly sliced beef, marinated in soy sauce and other home-made ingredients come served on top of fries that are cooked-to-order. For non-beef eaters, try their equally delicious Kimchi Fries ($18) instead.
watermelon soju
And the best way to end the night is to quench your thirst with Chicken Up’s best-selling drink, Watermelon Soju ($38)! Served to your table with dry ice bubbling in the water at the bottom, soju is poured right into the watermelon shell before you. Similar to the Pineapple Soju served at the start of our tasting, this Watermelon Soju was extremely refreshing and addictive!
