After opening 40 stores over a span of four years in Japan, Menya Takeichi has scooted along to debut on our sunny shores. Located at Suntec City, this restaurant is lauded as Tokyo’s Number One Chicken Ramen Chain.
Including their signature Chicken Paitan Ramen, here's what we tried:
The Potato Salad ($7) is a great value-for-money option. One is covered with mentaiko and spring onions, while the other is topped with chicken and an onsen egg.
Feeling ravenous? Order a bowl of ramen and top up $3.50 for a Chicken Ball Rice (pictured).
We enjoyed the signature Chicken Paitan Ramen ($15.50, pictured). The secret lies in its collagen-thick broth, attained through simmering a whole chicken and chicken feet for over 10 hours. Soaked in a thick and flavourful broth, the springy noodles go well with the chicken breast, grilled chicken thigh and minced chicken ball.
Taking into consideration the local palate, clear soup made from bonito flakes is provided so customers can adjust the taste of the broth if they find it too salty. Written by Rachel Wong
