Did you know that in 2012, 686 restaurants opened in Singapore? That’s at least one new eatery every day! We’re lucky to be living right here in food paradise, but with all this new food to devour, it can get quite tough to keep up with trending places. Here’s a rundown of what’s new and drool-worthy:
Extra Virgin Pizza by the Lo & Behold Group opened its doors last Thursday on March 28. Specialising in – what else but pizza – the new United Square eatery is the brand’s second and flagship outlet; the first one is located at Asia Square and it opened in December 2011. Try their Pizza of the Week (April 1), Sausage, Mushroom & Cheddar Pie, and look out for their delivery service – to be launched soon!
Formerly a carpark, the newly transformed park in Holland Village is home to the aptly named Park, a café by day and bar by night. The eco-friendly, shack-like café cum bar opens this week – you know what to do.
Situated at Icon Village at Gopeng Street, KUMO Sake & Whisky Bar is perfect for post-work drinks. Unwind after a long, hard day with tipple such as Sapporo, Asahi Black, Ume No Yado Tsukiusagi Sparkling Sake, or if you dare, the chilli-infused plum wine, Tougarashi Umeshu.
For something off the beaten track, there’s Jewel Café + Bar, which established its second outlet in Rangoon Road. This stylish café and bar houses a roastery (hello custom blends!) and aims to move away from the boring menu of plain ol’ pasta and sandwiches. Instead, this joint serves up mouth-watering burgers such as Praise the Lard ($18) and tempting desserts like Pan-seared Watermelon Steaks ($9).

The Market Grill created quite a buzz when it opened about six weeks ago. Right smack in the middle of the bustling CBD area, this 34-seat grill boasts a cool, slick vibe and is the brainchild of hotelier-restaurateur Loh Lik Peng (who also started eateries like Esquina and Pollen). The CW Cod Fish Burger ($26) and the Lobster Sliders ($42) seem to have earned themselves a fab reputation so give those a go when you pop by.
Another rotisserie joint to check out is Poulet Vous. This month-old take-out eatery at Ridgewood Close also decided to go back to traditional cooking methods and slow-cooking, but with the focus on just one main dish – rotisserie sakura chicken.
Coming soon!

You know what they say, “Good things come to those who wait” so you’d better be patient enough to wait for the opening of these upcoming eateries:
At Quayside Isle at Sentosa Cove, you can look forward to exploring four new dining concepts to be opened over the next three months, namely Saint Pierre (relocated from Central Mall), Earl of Hindh, a fine Indian eatery, Turkish doner kebab outlet, Kebab House, and Cove Stadium – a sports bar-bistro.
Other food joints to be launched soon around Singapore include Bacchanalia, a tapas-style restaurant you’ll probably see some time in April, Ding Dong (South-east Asian tapas) on Ann Siang Hill and Toots Brasserie (French) at the Sultan Hotel – both to be opened in May – and last but not least, Common Man Coffee Roasters in July.
