Before you know it, it will be Chinese New Year once again. Also known as Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, many of us consider it as the most important festival of the year. It’s the time when families and friends gather and celebrate this wondrous occasion. Of course, it wouldn’t really be complete without sumptuous food traditionally served during CNY.
We all know how tedious it is to prepare these dishes for your own Reunion Dinners. So, OpenRice has come up with a list of restaurants where you can bring your loved ones to welcome the Year of the Horse! Read on for our suggestions and find out more about their CNY specials!
1. Beaulieu House
Though Beaulieu House is a colonial house, it serves not only Western but Chinese cuisine as well. The best period to try their offerings is this coming Year of the Horse, where the Chef and team have prepared 8 menus consisting of their specialties for this CNY. Dining in at Beaulieu House is an ideal choice; there are aircon and non aircon dining where you can enjoy the sea breeze. If you choose to dine here, you can actually see the Johore Straits and its excellent sea view. It’s located in the northern part of Singapore, Sembawang Park, where the lush greenery and serenity brings out the uniqueness of the old colonial building.

2. Xiang Man Lou Chinese Restaurant (香满楼上海菜)

It may not be the first restaurant that pops in your mind when you're looking for restaurants to hold your CNY reunion dinner - but it really should be. Known to foodies and critics as an authentic Chinese restaurant which serves lip-smacking duck dishes, you can get the chance to try this, as well as a plethora of CNY offerings, when you choose this place to welcome the year of the horse.
Ordering won't be a hassle since the restaurant has prepared set menus for different group sizes. The first set is big enough for 4 people and is priced at $268 nett. After the traditional Yu Sheng to welcome the feast, you will be treated with 7 more dishes which are the Braised Superior Shark’s Fin with Fresh Crab Meat, Liquor-soaked Chicken, Homemade Sliced Fish, Jellyfish, Bran Dough; Braised Pork Knuckle with Brown Sauce, Braised Broccoli Shrimp, Scallop and Sea Cucumber in Sauce, Sweet & Sour Whole Fish, Sautéed Spinach with King Oyster Mushrooms, and Pork Dumplings.
The second menu is for 6 people ($368nett) and has 10 dishes with additions such as its signature Roast Duck, Steam Sea Grouper in HK style, and the Stir Fried Superior Mixed Vegetable. The last option is big enough for 8 people and is only at $498nett. The big group can tuck in to 12 CNY specialties which, again, have add ons such as the very filling Stir Fresh Shrimp with Salted Egg Yolk Sauce and Braised Superior Abalone with Fresh Broccoli and Mushrooms.

3. Peony Jade

This CNY, Peony Jade presents diners with its creation of the “Eight Beauties of the Blossoming Spring”. Sounds so grand, right? Well, it is! Chef Lee Hee Min and his team have come up with items which put the Horse-Shaped Yu Sheng (with four Chinese characters 马上有钱) in the spotlight. Made with fresh salmon and tuna slices, these are then tossed together with other ingredients to help usher in luck and wealth for the year ahead.
New items to watch out for are the meticulously-prepared Baked “Forward Prosperity” Horse Ingot – which you have to whack with a hammer to reveal the treasure inside; “Abundance Wealth” Imperial Abacus with Lobster and Abalones - shaped like the ancient calculator to signify endless stream of wealth; “Abounding Riches” Golden Suckling Pig Stuffed with Glutinous Rice - boneless suckling pig grilled to perfection; and “Reaping Good Fortune” Prosperity Truffle Roasted Chicken -an inventive dish where the roast chicken is enhanced with truffle oil. Aside from these new creations, Peony Jade still included its signature items on the menu. So, your palate gets teased by new and familiar flavours.

4. Summer Palace

To welcome the Year of the Horse, Chinese Executive Chef Liu Ching Hai and his team give you a luxurious dining experience by giving you 10 specially crafted menus. These wouldn’t really be complete without Yu Sheng, so at this restaurant, they have three varieties: Prosperity Truffle Duck with Fresh Fruit Yu Sheng, Nutritious Bird’s Nest and Pear Yu Sheng, and the Prosperity Wild Mushroom Vegetarian Yu Sheng.
Choose any one you like and pair it with some of Summer Palace’s signature items which include the Tea-Smoked Soy Chicken, Stewed Pork Leg with Sea Cucumber and Sea Moss, and the Barbecued Truffle Suckling Pig Trio which is grilled to achieve that crispy skin.

5. Summer Pavilion

You’re in for a treat this CNY for Summer Pavilion will present diners with opulent CNY lunch and reunion dinners. The perfect example is the Platinum Seven-Course Menu, which can feed 8 hungry mouths. The highlights are the Yu Sheng, which features Venus clam as the special ingredient; and the traditional Pen Cai, which is made of 12 luxurious ingredients.
To make the occasion merrier, enjoy these two items with Steamed Sliced Garoupa with Dried Beancurd Skin & Minced Garlic, Double-boiled Lobster Soup with Chicken, Bamboo Pith and Chinese Cabbage, and the Braised Whole Abalone with Chinese Mushrooms and Seasonal Vegetables. 6. Plaza Brasserie

It’s going to be a feast for the senses at Plaza Brasserie. To usher in the Year of the Horse, this international Buffet Restaurant at Park Royal on Beach Road will be serving its Fruitful Yu Sheng – Chef Jackson Goh’s creation which features fresh tropical fruits like mango and peach.
For the CNY period, guests can also tuck in to his other specialties such as the Fortune Seafood Treasures Pot, Eight Treasures Duck, Braised Pork Knuckle with Dried Oyster and Black Moss, and the Poached “Live” Prawns in Chinese Wine.
Available upon advanced order, you can enjoy their CNY goodies like Nian Gao Tart or the Crispy Durian Dim Sum. These treats are available for takeaway.

7. Ku De Ta

For Ku De Ta’s CNY menu, Executive Chef Frederic Faucheux has personally handpicked auspicious ingredients to make sure you welcome the Year of the Horse with all the luck you can get. Start it off with the Fresh Oysters topped with Pomelo Jelly and Fuji Apple Sorbet to bring in good health.
For longevity, you can have Chef’s Lo Mein Noodles, cooked with fragrant mushroom broth and served with crispy tofu. Love is also part of his menu, and the offering at Ku De Ta is the Mandarin Chocolate Confection with Benedictine Dom, Coconut, and Strawberry Yuan Jello. 8. Ellenborough Market Café

This CNY, eat to your heart’s content with Ellenborough Market Café’s festive specialties plus Peranakan delights. Aside from the traditional tossing of the Salmon Yu Sheng, indulge in a bountiful feast of Golden Suckling Pig, Chilli Crab with Mantou, and Stir-fried Australian Scallops with Snow Peas & Lily Bulbs in XO Sauce. 9. Cherry Garden
