The Prawn Star of Duxton Hill

In a dark corner of Duxton Hill, a small but bright sign that reads “The Prawn Star” radiantly beckons for your attention. Beyond its cheeky name, this new seafood eatery doles out contemporary-style plates of zi char dishes in a pre-war shophouse, which has been boosted with urban ghetto vibes. Priding themselves as locavores, resident chef Anthony Lim visits the local market every morning for the freshest catch, which he later whips up into dishes like TPS Grilled King Prawns in Signature Kimchi-Miso Butter ($26) and the must-try King Prawns on Vermicelli Claypot ($32; pictured above). Here, all seafood is first charcoal-grilled over binchō-tan, a traditional white charcoal of Japan, then heated over the stove.

Under the “pick/share” section, standouts include the Calamari “Yaki Udon” with bacon ($18) and the sweet and spicy Sriracha Caramel Popcorn ($8) – an addictive appetite-whetter to keep you occupied whilst waiting for less than punctual friends. Tipples to choose from include egg white incorporated cocktails ($15 each) like Room for One and Take a Pis*, as well as handcrafted beers from Lost Coast Brewery and a range of international wines.
