Located in the basement of Robinsons Orchard at The Heeren in Orchard Road, is this 50-seat restaurant sandwiched between Sushi Goshin and Costa Coffee. It is opened by the Akashi Group. The outlet specialises in gyoza which is Japanese dumpling in both pan fried and boiled versions with 2 different stuffings : pork and vegetable. The gyoza skins used here, are imported thrice weekly from Japan. The outlet is crowded but we are showed to a table after a short wait. There is quite a range of sauc
There is quite a range of sauces on the table which occupied quite a large space. The sauces are miso, chilli oil, vinger, shredded ginger, chilli powder and gyoza sauce. Jyajya Men ($6.50++)
Thick Noodles with Minced Pork & Special Miso
The Japanese version of Jyajya Men is quite different from the chinese and Korean versions. A menu is placed on the table to show the steps of eating the dish. The staff also reminds us the steps when serving the dish. First add some white vinegar and chilli oil to preference. Mix well and enjoy the Jya Jya Men. It tastes quite light as there is quite little amount of sauce in the dish. Second leaves a small amount of JyaJya Men in the bowl and asks the staff for an egg. The staff would also pour some boiling noodle water in the bowl. Crack the half boiled egg into the bowl and mixes well. Season the soup with Jyajya Miso. Unique but quite light in taste. Pan-Fried Dumpling with Pork ($4.80++/ 5 pieces)
The dumpling is quite light and juicy. The skin is not too thick. Boiled Dumpling with Pork ($4.80++/ 5 pieces)
Compared to the pan-fried version, I feel that the boiled version tastes much better. Ninniku Yaki Meshi ($5.80++)
Japanese Garlic Fried Rice
The serving is quite small, but it tastes quite good.
The outlet also served side dishes priced from $3.80 to $4.80 and ice-cream at $6.00 a serving. Overall the food is not bad but small in serving. Service is a bit uneven. I have requested twice for the egg for the second half of the Jya Jya Men but the egg is served to another customer. Overall the staffs are quite friendly. The table is a bit too small and hardly can fit all the dishes which we have ordered. There is a 5% discount for Robinsons card holders if one is paying using that.
