Surprisingly, there was a lot of empty space during Saturday lunch timing. Here was my return to 5 Little Bears, I am going to try out the other signature dish today. Staffs were mostly youngsters, they were friendly and ready to serve. Don’t be deceived by its plainly cover, the Mee Sua was actually tasty and smooth. Each spoonful meant each enjoyful, it was actually filling. Vinegar added inside enlightened the whole bowl, typical flavour from Taiwan. Oyster oozed out was a wonderful taste, well accompanied silky starchy soup. Price at $4.50, it was inexpensive. 查看更多

5 Little Bears is located conveniently at Far East Plaza, and serves popular Taiwanese food like Oyster Mee Sua, Braised Pork Belly Rice & Salted Crispy Chicken. The inside of the restaurant is free seating style where you have to order your food at the counter, and they will call your number to pick it up when the food is ready. For my meal today, I ordered a portion of the Salted Crispy Chicken & a bowl of Oyster Mee Sua.For the Salted Crispy Chicken, I felt that it was too dry and very hard. I was quite disappointed with this dish as all I could taste is the flour and hardly any chicken. The Oyster Mee Sua however was not bad. It's flavourful and silky smooth, easy enough to eat with just a spoon. Even though we visited the restaurant during lunch time, there was plenty of seats and not much of a crowd. Great place to get a quick meal.查看更多

Interestingly addressed as Five Little Bears, I was attracted by its funny name. Brought over Taiwanese local delight, the price stated in Menu was nett. The décor for the shop was classic, most of the furniture was wooden in nature. Offering in set, I opted for Combination B which included a Wintermelon Tea. Signature dish, it was quite a big bowl and relatively filling portion. Frankly speaking, the dark gravy on rice was much different if comparing with authentic flavour in Taiwan. The standard was just hit average to me. I won’t say it was poor dish yet it was nothing fantastic. Anyway entire was balanced diet, whereby it had carbo rice egg, pork and veggies. Valuable set for $5.90, the cost was satisfied at this bustling Orchard area.查看更多

Every cuisine always has it's unique dish. Taiwan cuisine, there's fried chicken, beef noodles and not forgetting the very authentic braised pork belly rice! This is my second visit to this little cafe, my previous one wasn't awesome but I still wanted to give it another try! Ordered the Braised Pork Belly Rice ($5.90) which comes with a drink, I got the wintermelon drink which was simple but refreshing. This bowl of simple Taiwanese's classic favourite is full of flavour after mixing the savoury minced pork belly and salted vegetables together. The braised egg and vegetable was also good alongside the yummy sticky mixed rice. Overall, dish was good on an average level, but it was totally worth the price. Will visit again for other dishes.查看更多

Whenever I frequent 5 Little Bears, i would usually go for the braised pork belly rice. Its partly because it is reasonably cheap (set meal at $5.90 with drink of your choice). The braised pork belly rice comes with some vegetables at the side, one-half of a braised egg and of course a generous heaping of braised pork belly bits. When you mix all the ingredients together, the general consistency of the rice becomes quite sticky and sometimes you feel like you are just eating rice itself. Its like the pork belly bits are barely there. Still its a good deal which fills one's belly!Luckily, 5 Little Bears added more variety to their set meals and thus giving patrons more options.查看更多

5 little bears, I always like to call 五只小熊,is a taiwanese eatery offering affordable taiwan eats.I got the Hsinchu Fried Rice noodles and as it was a set, and there was a drink or soup to go with it.I didn't have to wait long for the noodles and shortly after placing the order, i got to collect from the counter (self-service).There was a staff who would assist with the clearing of trays and this was helpful given that the tables were quite small. The noodles tasted pretty bland to me which was quite disappointing. I ended up mixing the noodles with the scoop of chilli that came with the noodles. But it turned out to be too spicy for me.  If the noodles were more flavourful, it would have been a better hit. Or perhaps it was supposed to taste like that. Still i would want to visit again to try the other items on the menu!查看更多

Have been longing to visit 5 Little Bears since forever! Came here for lunch with my friends after collecting my OpenRice Hungry Games' prizes! Although I've never been to Taiwan, their interior has made me feel like I'm at some street cafés along some typical Taiwan streets. Their fried chicken at their order stations looked so tempting but I didn't order it because my throat wasn't feeling that well, definitely would try during my 2nd visit though! So I've gotten the Taiwan Soup Noodles Set ($5.50) which comes with a drink, you can choose between red tea, green tea or winter melon tea. This bowl reminds me of the Singapore style prawn noodles, except that it's topped with minced pork and braised egg. The portion is reasonably generous. The soup was fine but possibly a tad bit salty, the noodle and egg was alright. There's no wow factor anywhere but I call experiences like this "I should have ordered something else to try."I have also gotten the Eight Treasures Ice ($6) which looks fantastic with the generous amount of eight different toppings (pearls, red bean, green bean, grass jelly, taro jelly, sweet potato jelly, barley and peanuts). All the ingredients were great! But the reasons I couldn't finish it was not because of the portion, but rather the tiring chewing and the overall combination. I'm not too sure whether this is authentic but it can be improved by giving us the option of adding milk or other syrups, as well as the option of $2/$4/$6 in terms of portion. Despite some disappointments, I hardly give up on a dining place entirely because I always try to believe that I might have just ordered the wrong items. Besides, everything are pretty affordable too. Therefore I would most likely return to try out other items, especially the fried chicken!查看更多

The food scene in Singapore is very competitive and fast-changing especially for tenants at Far East Plaza. Recently, I noticed this new F&B establishment "5 Little Bears 五只小熊" outside the walkway of Far East Plaza with Chinese wordings and eye-catching lanterns. From the feel of it, the design concept sure looks young and appealing and I decided to visit one of the days for lunch.Upon stepping into 5 Little Bears, the ambiance was very light-hearted, casual and cozy with flowers by the side of the stairs leading down to the dining area which reminds me so much of boutique cafes over in Korea. There is a counter where menus are placed and patrons can self-service and make their orders for food there. Good news is that they don't have service charge and the price of the food are inclusive of GST!! After ordering, the friendly Taiwanese staffs will ring a bell and place the food at the food collection counter so you can collect it and dine at the comfort of your table. My friend had the Taipei Oyster Vermicelli ($4.50) which they will add a little vinegar and chili in it to enhance the taste. According to your preference, you can choose to add more of it too with the condiments available at the food collection counter. In that bowl, there were generous amount of oysters although they ain't that huge compared to the ones in Taipei and I love the mushrooms which adds a sweet flavour to it. Best of all, the silky smooth vermicelli can be eaten with just a soup spoon as they have cut it into short bits so you need not worry about splattering all over your shirt. :)I had a yummy bowl of Taichung Braised Pork Rice ($4.80) and from the looks of the serving portion, it was simply irresistible of great value!! There was a nice portion of minced braised pork, half a braised egg together with salted veg and a large stalk of leafy green, all these sitting on a serving of sticky Japanese short grain rice. When eaten together, the moist texture of the braised pork was so succulent that it melts in the mouth and the droolicious gravy complements the soft and chewy rice perfect to the bite.Ending off our meal, we shared their signature dessert, Eight Treasures Ice ($6) . With a perfect combination of red bean, green bean, barley, taro jelly, sweet potato jelly, glass jelly, peanuts and pearls on finely shaved ice, it was sheer paradise as I could feel heaven on earth with the delectable mix of sweet and bouncy goodies on a humid and warm afternoon. The serving was huge and it is recommended to be shared with 2 to 3 persons. Good things like this is meant to be shared with anyway! It was a satisfying and sumptuous meal as the food tasted very authentic like those I had in Taiwan. The lunch crowd was streaming in in groups continuously and that speaks volume for a new eatery such as this. My dining experience here of sitting on stools and slurping down a bowl of Oyster Vermicelli sure feels like dining at a roadside stall in Tapei night market. With so many other varieties of Taiwan street snacks to choose from like their Salted Crispy Chicken and Kaohsiung Beef Noodles, I am already planning what to have for my next visit! 查看更多

As it is already past 9.30pm, most of the eateries have already closed and there is not much choices left. After walking around, we end up here. The place is brightly decorated in traditional Chinese style with red brick wall, paper lanterns and black and white photos. Seating is simple with just wooden tables and stools. It is a no frills self service. One has placed order, made payment in cash and collected food from the counter.Fried Rice NoodlesSet 4 is consists of Fried Rice Noodles and Meat Ball Soup and costs $5.90. The noodles is not fried at all. It is more like cooked rice noodles topped with minced meat sauce. :( Worse the noodles does not have any flavour.  The noodles does not have any characteristics of the traditional Taiwan Hsichu Bee Hoon. Hsichu Bee Hoon has a extremely fine texture as Hsichu is considered a rather windy county.Meat Ball SoupThe meat ball seems to have too much flour inside as there is no bite of meat.Taiwan Soup NoodlesSet 5 is consists of a bowl of Taiwan Soup Noodles and a drink ( choice of winter melon tea or red tea) and costs $5.50. The impression of the noodle soup that hit us is that it reminds us of the prawn noodle soup we usually found in hawker centres. It smells like one and tastes like one too. And of course not what we are expecting. Another disappointed dish.Winter melon tea ($2.20)The winter melon tea does not taste too sweet but the winter melon taste is a bit faint.Overall it has been quite a disappointing meal. There is none of the Taiwanese taste to be found here. Don't think I will be back in the near future.查看更多

Located at Far East Level 1, this Taiwan food outlet is a hot favorite among young teenagers looking for good yummy food at cheap prices! Had the opportunity to try it on one of my shopping trips at far east! The oyster vermincelli wasn’t too bad and pretty similar to what I had in Taiwan. However the light tasting Mee Sua was not enough to mask the not-so-fresh oyster smell which you often find in Singapore’s oysters. This is really really good. I am actually planning to grab this on the next trip back cause it is really nice! It is a little over-fried when we had it, so it kind of strips off the natural juiciness of the chicken. Still worth a go for its cheap prices! This is a pretty nice side to order. I would say this is one of the better sour plum sweet potatoes that I have in Singapore. Generous with the sprinkling of sour plum powder, this is definitely some that those are more into heavy flavours will like. I did wish it was more sweet potato than batter. For a more indepth review, head over to Round Tum Tums to learn more about the prices and other hidden foodie finds:Link: http://roundtumtums.wordpress.com/2013/10/03/5-little-bears/查看更多

Far East Plaza is a place where I will need to pass by daily if I'm taking a bus home from office. Thus, I've been passing by this 5 Little Bears & so I decided to give it a try just now since I'm quite hungry 盐酥鸡 Salted Crispy Chicken - Chicken is very crispy & a little salty. Served with a little chili powder at the side but the portion is a bit too little for the price. 台中卤肉饭 + 饮料 Taichung Braised pork Rice + Drink (Wintermelon Tea) - The braised pork is cut into very small piece & it's very well seasoned & simmer till soft. Salted vegetable is also salty yet a hint of spiciness. The rice also comes with half a braised egg & the caixin is a little over-cooked . Rice is a little mushy thou. Taste pretty good, but is slightly oilyThey do not charge on GST & Service charge & it's pretty affordable for a normal set meal. Staffs here are pretty friendly too查看更多

i have been warned against the oily nature of the "lu rou fan", being not too friendly to the tummy. Comfortable setting is how i would describe the interior. You also see red lanterns hanging with dishes names on it around the shop. For orders, you proceed to the counter, place your order then get a queue number. i ordered the set meal which comes with one standard drink (i chose winter melon) and famous Taiwanese dish - braised pork rice. I also had a side order of honey chicken which cost $4.80, the other 2 version cost less. I wasn't impressed when i collected the rice set. Quantity looks ok but they give just one stalk of the cheap chye sim which was rather bland. Fortunately i asked for less oil when ordering so it did not turn out to be as oily as what i've heard about. But the taste was pretty normal, the kiam chye wasn't flavorful enough as well. The winter melon drink was nice and refreshing though and it doesn't come with a lot of ice which is good. The honey chicken probably need some improvement as well. Firstly to present a dish of such quantity on a big plate is a mis match. Also i couldn't taste the honey taste n the chicken, maybe should have gone for the yan su chicken (salted) instead. They had a little red pepper as condiment but it did not enhance the chicken flavor. Certainly hope to see some improvement in this shop's offering. One thing to mention, i saw the staff kept munching away while serving and talking to client, not the best staff behavior i would think for a f& b outlet. 查看更多

The 5 Little Bears is at basement of Far East Plaza. The shop is a bit crowded during lunch time. Set menus are available at there. I choose Braised Pork Rice + Wintermelon Tea ($5.90). Included vegetables and half an egg in set. The braised pork was cut in small pieces, nicely flavored and well seasoned. The taste is just average. I might come back to try other sets.查看更多

The shop name seems really cute and friendly! It is like a marketing tactic to invite more customers into the shop. The furnishing of the shop is really nice with wooden tables too. (: I ordered oyster mee sua at only $4.50. I thought it was very affordable in Town and it is delicious too! They also have it in a set with a drink for $5.50. There are 4 medium oysters in it. I was glad that it isn't small and most importantly it is fresh. (:查看更多

I had been recommended the braised pork rice at 5 Little Bears and decided to pop in since I was in that area. We ordered the braised pork rice set, Chicken Chop and fried mushroom. The braised pork set did not disappoint. The fat and lean meat was in good ratio. I pretty much enjoyed it and for the price vs ambience, I think it's pretty worth it. However, the chicken chop and the fried mushroom were pretty disappointing. It was nothing spectacular compared to the many other competitors out there. The mushroom was bland. I think they can improve further. 查看更多
