Ya Kun is a chain in Singapore well known for its kaya butter toasts. It has a outlet at Northpoint Shopping Centre which is near where I am staying. During mornings, the place is packed with people having a quick bite before going to work. The table turnover is quite fast. One orders and pays at the cashier. Remember to collect the number tag too. Although given number tag, one still have to wait at the counter for drink and half boiled eggs. Only the toasts will be served to you at your table.Value Set A ($4.80) - Kaya Toast with Butter SetThe set consists of 2 pieces of crispy toasts with kaya and butter spread on, 2 half boiled eggs and a choice of coffee or tea. It is one of the most popular sets commonly ordered by most. The toast although crispy and light, but tastewise still a far cry from how the founder used to make. Overall food is not bad and served quite fast. I would prefer that the staff would give the table a quick wipe as it is quite sticky. 繼續閱讀

For the full review, go to herpenandfork.blogspot.sgWe ordered 2 sets - the French Toast and Kaya Toast. The 2 sets (1 coffee, 1 tea, 2 sets of boiled eggs, 4 portions of French Toast and 4 portions (squares) of Kaya Butter Toast in total) were just right for us. The boiled eggs came looking perfect in my opinion - 2 pretty yolks wobbling and encased within a translucent layer of egg white, just like the way boiled eggs should be. I am not a fan of boiled eggs, but I tried a little of mum's and I must say the texture was great. Half-boiled eggs lovers will definitely not be disappointed with Ya Kun's version. They got the technique down pat, a quick peek at the consistency of the eggs at other tables proved it.The teh siew dai (tea with less sugar) hit the spot for me. Just the right level of sweetness. I didn't try the kopi (coffee), but my parents both said it was good. Now for the Kaya Toast. It came warm and toasted crispy. The kaya and generous portion of butter complemented well and were evenly spread for all four pieces. Definitely lived up to its name, though I must say there are times when they do fail to deliver if you are unlucky. Ya Kun French Toast As for the French Toast, it came lukewarm. The toast was portioned into 8 cubes so it was easy to handle, along with a side of kaya served separately. Sadly, the French Toast was underwhelming. There was no eggy flavor or any fragrance to it, and only the 'prints' on the bread and slight sogginess gave a hint that it should be French Toast.Service-wise, this branch tends to be slow at clearing the tables. On the few occasions I have came, there are always cups and plates stacked on the tables waiting to be cleared. The cleanliness also needs to be improved. Visit for the signature kaya toast. If you want a better environment though, it would be good to go for the other branches. 繼續閱讀

This place cooks up really traditional Singapore style bread and butter and coffee and tea. They have all the local foods such as: all kinds of toasts with kaya, cheese or pork floss.I had to have their kaya toast with butter (and a hot coffee/tea)...Such simple food, but it's so delicious...I can have them everyday for breakfast or snacks. Should order a half-boiled egg since it is the best for breakfast since you can swallow easily at one shot. 繼續閱讀

Ohh, new Item from Ya Kun Kaya Toast. They are introducing Kaya Balls selling at $3 for 8 pieces. Slightly on the high side, but for Ya Kun Kaya. It is worth it. The nice fragrance of Kaya that melts in the mouth. It's a snack which my parents bought for me near the Ang Mo Kio food centre but it is no longer there...The packaging which was given to me as I asked for a take away. ;)Suggestion: It will be good if Ya Kun offer different flavours like Peanut, Cheese etc. Or perhaps a mixed flavour balls for customers to choose from. 繼續閱讀

Ya kun may be famous for alot of things but their kaya toast is definitely the talk of the town. Slices of bread that are toasted to perfection; neither too soft nor hard with melted butter and a generous spread of kaya to make it a winner. This is definitely one of my favourite places for breakfast. However, I do recommend not waiting too long before getting down to business as the toast does have a way of turning cold and soggy which affects the taste by a notch. Best eaten hot with a good cup of coffee. Their ice blended drinks are pretty good too if u feel like a chilled drink during a hot morning. I especially like their horlicks ice blended. It might be a little pricey at over $3 but its great to gulp down on a scorching day!Price paid for Ice blended Horlicks with whipped cream + Kaya Toast (2 slices) = $5.30. Highly recommended: 9/10 繼續閱讀
