One of the more popular stalls in Chinatown Complex Market, it is a great choice for simple local fare. We ordered the bee hoon, chee cheong fun and the yam cake. A cheap and filling breakfast!!! My friend was mentioning about Jia Ji Mei Shi's Yam Cake and its popular among the youngesters and elderlies. Jia Ji Mei Shi was just a normal humble little stall that occupies a unit in Chinatown Complex Market and food Centre but was marked as a choice of breakfast. Look at the queue. Although it was long but its fast moving.The yam cake was one of the top selling item found in the stall besides their dumplings. the chee cheong fun is a bit oily for my liking , as you can see in the photo on how it reflects under the light. the cheong fun is soft and nice; overall taste is okay , I've easily had better. This stall have been around like ever since the first time i came here. Service was fast but uncle serving not so friendly (in a hurry).

I had never gone to the food centre at Chinatown. It was until this afternoon that I came to this place. I decided to try out the food from this stall because I heard that the food from this stall is good.First off, a dish of chee cheong fun and yam cake is what I had. I come here quite often with my partner to have breakfast. Some of the usual choices for breakfast are steamed yam cake, soon kueh, chee cheong fun and meat dumpling. All these items are cheap and good. My personal favourite amongst them is chee cheong fun. The texture of chee cheong fun was soft and smooth and it served with the accompanied dark sweet sauce and the chilli. Another favourite is their rice dumpling. Ordered the porridge and yu sheng instead of the yam cake and Chee Cheong Fun. I think I have made the wrong choice as the porridge is quite tasteless and there is not much ingredients. As for the yu sheng, I feel that it tastes quite fresh and sweet. In fact, I think the yu sheng is value for money as it is relatively cheaper than what I have in other places.

chee cheong fun & steamed yam cake combo ($2) from Jia Ji Mei Shi is very worth it. At the price of $2, the portion is huge. The chee cheong fun was very chewy and tender. And so was the yam cake. They were both very smooth. The chili wasn’t potent but had a kick. I especially like the yam cake. Its “yam”-ness wasn’t very strong, but it was springy and soft at the same time. Quite a winner. It is worth to buy for breakfast if your office is near there, well, I only manage to have it in weekend.

I usually get some dumplings from this very stall whenever i am there. And, i usually have them refrigerated and steamed it for breakfast, lunch or even dinner. Each dumpling with salted egg yolk is at $2.50. It might sounds a little pricey but it is very much worth it though as the amount of ingredients were rather generous including a big piece of moist salted egg yolk embedded in it. I enjoyed eating it.

This place serves one of the best yam cake in SG! Even without any sauce, the yam cake and chee cheong fun taste great! And it is only $2, really value for money. Beside the yam cake and chee cheong fun, one can also try the yu sheng. Personally, I find that it is a very tasty appetizer. It cost $3 and the serving is quite generous. However, I find that the hawker centre is quite dirty. There are many tables with plates not being clear.

Food at Chinatown Market Complex is really cheap and they sell a variety of local delights. I ordered a plate of yam cake and chee cheong fun which costs only $2. Both yam cake and chee cheong fun taste great paired with the sweet sauce dressing. The aunty who served us was very friendly. Thumbs up for the store.
