Sitting at the restaurant overlooking the people skating at the Olympics size ice-skating rink is a pleasure in life. Have already eaten dinner so only ordered desserts from here. This dessert is similar to Blackball except that instead of using grass jelly as base, they uses the traditional beancurd. Do not expect the beancurd to be the silky type but the taro balls make up to it. It's good for the sweet tooth. Sweet and chewy.

Eat at Taipei claim itself to offer authentic Taiwanese dishes - not. I lunched there with a heavy heart (because my partner wanted to try) and to me, either you eat the food at Taiwan itself or just buy the usual Shihlin Mee Sua (which somehow pass my will do. Didn't have any high hope for this place and indeed I was right.

As they only have their "hi-tea" menu from 3pm-5pm (if I remembered correctly), we can only choose from what's available during that time slot. A huge let down actually because what I wanted to order was not inclusive in this menu, so we randomly ordered a few dishes to try - Oyster Meesua, Crispy Chicken and Tofu, Yam Ball sweet soup as dessert.

The mee sua is a total failure as it taste like those you can easily buy from supermarket. NOT authentic at all. The sweet soup too, tasted like its been mass spam by sugar syrup. Both the crispy chicken and tofu is somehow acceptable, but then again how can you go wrong by just coating and frying the food?

I think a $3.80 shihlin mee sua is good enough for me if I am craving for taiwanese street food.

This place is usually crowded. But on last Thursday evening, it was only half filled. I heard that it is cheap and good, so I decided to give it a try. This is really good. Thick slices of chicken breast that is still soft, tender and moist, with a crispy crust. One might suspect they use the sous vide method to cook the chicken first. It could do with a little more seasoning powder, else it was just perfect. This is like what you have at the Shilin stalls in shopping malls with much more oysters

The colourful signboards bear the name of this eatery and the wooden tables and chairs in this place tries to replicate the night market scene in Taipei. The Taipei subway map is laminated onto the tables and the menus provided nice descriptions about the origins of street food served in here.

There were unfortunately some hits and misses during our visit here. Since I was filling really cold, I decided I needed to have a nice hot dish to warm me up. So I ordered their Vermicelli with Oysters and Pigs Intestines ($6.90).

This was unfortunately a let down. Visually, it didn’t look as appealing as the menu picture they showed. While the mee sua was soft and slurp worthy, the sauce didn’t really match up. Unfortunately, the sauce was a little too watery and was too salty. The pig intestines were fresh and chewy, but I was only able to scoop up only a few pieces in my dish. Perhaps this particular dish is a little overpriced, and I might be able to get something of similar quality (or even better) at the Shilin snack stores.

We also had Sweet Potato Fries ($3.90), a dish I actually enjoyed eating. Sweet potatoes lend themselves a nice sweet, starchy flavor which surprisingly tastes really good when cut and fried into western fries. The outer layer is fried to a nice, crispy golden orangey hue, but retains a soft chewy texture inside. This dish comes with an intriguing sour plum powder dip, which surprisingly enhances the flavor of the sweet potato fries!

Lastly, the 'coffin' toast has a slight dark golden brown colour, contains a milky custard type of cream in the middle of the toast. The cream contains several ingredients that includes cube chicken, corn and other vegetables. The cream is sufficiently thick, well seasoned and goes very well with the toast. The toast is well baked, crispy outer texture and soft on the inside.

My friends suggested we have dinner at eat @ Taipei. I ordered their beef noodle soup, after my last experience with them, I was not too sure what to expect. Fortunately, I did not wait long for my beef noodles to be served. It was alright, the soup had a strong beef flavor. The beef were tender and juicy. the noodles were cooked just well, not overcooked. There was carrot added into the soup. the carrot was sweet and juicy, made the soup taste sweet.

Decided to try this hip looking taiwanese cafe at Jcubecolour litted display boards displaying taiwanese characters and icons gives the palcve a cool and hip vibe. tried their famous beef noodles, like the soup base - its salty and flavourful, meat is a little tough but the soup and flavour made up for it. my favourits is their beancurd dessert - comes with taro and tapioca balls and red beans like the ones you find in Taiwanbeancurd is smooth and tender and like that is not too sweet.

So naturally, my expectation of this place got even much higher. When I was seated and opened the menu, I was shocked at the price, one bowl of mee sua was about $7plus, their ji pa was also $7plus. But if it was really good, I would not mind paying for it. However when the food came, I regretted taking all the trouble to eat here. Firstly my oyster mee sua gravy was not thick at all, it was supposed to be more starchy. The mee sua was chewable, normally the mee sua is just supposed to use a spoon to scoop and you can just swallow it without even chewing. I guess they cooked it in a different style, may suit other people’s palette but not mine. The only saviour of the dish was the toppings. The pig’s intestines were washed properly and braised well, it was chewy and tasty and the oysters were very fresh and juicy. I guess this place is slightly overrated and the food is on pricey side.

We passed by this eatery quite a few times, and there's always a long waiting queue outside. Hence, out of curiosity, we went and tried it out. We ordered quite a number of food. For snacks, we had the Oyster omelette ($6.9). To be honest, I'm pretty disappointing on the presentation, and the taste. Not much oyster to begin with, the taste is a bit plain. The Tainan 'coffin' toast ($8.9) looks good, and the creamy filling tastes delicious too. It consists of chicken cubes, cuttle fish, prawns... etc. however, the filling is actually quite little because the toast 'bowl' is shallow. The bottom part is all bread.

Danzai' noodle soup with minced pork ($6.9), is the 'wow'! dish recommended in the menu. I like the broth, and ingredients such as minced meat and dried shrimp enhance the flavour of the noodles by much.

For their desserts, Sweetened bean curd with assorted beans ($3.8) is the signature dish. It's so much going on in the bowl, and surprisingly tastes not bad. But I'd still prefer to have my bean curd plain.

I quite like the Azuki bean with milk ($3.5) which is the 'wow!' drink recommended in the menu. The generous amount of Azuki bean gives a full flavour to the milk drink. Good one!

The picture I took is how they served us, so unappetizing. It is not have enough starch mixture and for authentic Taiwanese oyster omelette, they will added a lot of sauce on top, but this one, they just served on a saucer. I guess they want to make it more Singapore like. The bill was rather expensive as well.

As for the food, I had ordered the most significant dish at Taiwan which is "braised pork belly rice" (卤肉饭) , the rice is covered by the gravy of braised pork so that the rice will not so dry. Moreover, more stimulating the appetizer.

The second dish is Tainan "Coffin" Toast (棺材板). I like this dish a lot because it is a very creative dish and so do the name!
It is basically a bread toasted with the middle is cut opened for the filling, this results something that looks sort of like a coffin. The fillings are fish, squid and prawn with mayonnaise.
