Half of the stalls in this block's coffee shop usually close by evening, so I was glad that the economy rice stall is one of those that usually stay open for dinner. Even at 8.30pm, there was still a wide variety of dishes available, all looking so appetizing while displayed in a brightly lit counter.I wanted something slightly lighter for dinner and they had a few of my favourite food like potatoes, fried beancurd and beancurd skin among others, so I got those with my rice. The meal with 3 vegetable sides costs $2.50, which was pretty reasonable. My dad got the curry chicken, spicy lady fingers and mushrooms with the rice and the amount came up to $3.30 for 1 meat and 2 vegetables. The rice was hot and the food was still slightly warm, which was a plus especially on a cold day. The portion was the usual standard of one bowl of rice, although I asked for less rice for myself. I found the food tasty even though mine were mostly vegetable dishes; I think it was mostly because of the sauces! They usually change or rotate some of their dishes regularly so that the menu doesn't get boring, although some of more popular dishes like curry chicken seem to be regulars on their menu. While this gives customers more choices, I thought that it can sometimes be rather disappointing when there are days I wanted to eat a dish and it wasn't available, like their fried wanton which I like! Otherwise, they usually have a good mix of different types of food from meat to vegetables ranging in different levels of taste from mild to spicy to cater to different palates. Service was okay, though I was glad that the lady was always willing to accede to some of my requests for less rice and more gravy (maybe it would also be nice if she could smile more ). Otherwise, it's mostly just take-your-pick-and-go but considering this is a coffee shop, I'm not going to expect much of the service and environment anyway.
