the other stalls to try are the whitley road fishball noodles, kin turtle soup etc…
we managed to park at the tiny carpark. there was no queue at kok kee at 4.15pm.
the last time i was here was 22.3.2014. we ordered S$4 wanton mee each. this must be the only wet version in singapore i had tried. the noodles were al dente & not soggy yet not stringy.
S$4 kind of expensive for that tiny amount of noodles. but good tasting was what counted, & this was like the best wanton noodles i had, better than red ring & first centre.
this the second time i tried & my views had not changed. may go back before 30sep to try the whitley road fishball noodles etc.

I was in the area & my wife suggested to have wanton noodles at Kok Kee (国记) @ Lavendar Food Square on 22.3.2014. i had not tried this popular stall before. there were about 15 people in the queue & the wait was >30minutes.it was worth the wait though! we had each a small portion at S$4. the noodle was wet yet not soggy (as commented by several reviewers) & in fact just al dente and very tasty. 1 of the best wanton noodles i had, better than red ring & the one at first centre. the char siew

, better than red ring & the one at first centre. the char siew & wanton were good too but nothing special, no different from other stalls (as also commented by others). i like the char siew at red ring better.

unlikely to come here specially to queue for the wanton noodles though, especially with the difficulty in parking. but if around the place & already parked, will probably drop by. quite enjoyed it!
make me want to go back & try the fei fei wanton noodles at joo chiat place again.

Offered in two sizes, we went for the smaller portion which came at S$4 while the larger was S$5. To be honest, I thought that was rather exorbitant, considering the amount of food served; two wantons, six thin slices of char siew and few strands of greens.

While I felt that the price was not proportionate to the serving size, the wantons were well marinated and flavourful. What scored points was the al dente noodles which were bouncy and springy. What I particularly fancied was the mildly sweet sauce that the grumpy uncle poured on the noodles which made all the difference. The char siew however was dry and while we liked that it was thinly sliced, the much desired savoury taste was sorely lacking. I would also have preferred a stronger punch with the chilli sauce, which seemed too watery for my liking.

Service wise, expect almost nothing except at best a grumpy uncle who would take your order and money with haste and shout across to the busy chef inside in Cantonese.

This is one of the best wanton noodle i have tried in Singapore so far. The noodle is springy and really yummy to eat alone just with the sauce that they pour on top of it. The char siew they give is also cooked really nicely. And the wonton my gosh it is really generous with its filling as most stalls tend to hold back the meat filling that they give for the wanton. Even if you have a small appetite, i guarantee you will want to eat a second plate thats how nice it is.

There might be a long queue every now and then so be prepared to queue and wait for yummy food. For those big eaters out there, i suggest you do not get your hopes too high as the portion they give might be a little small.

Another really nice place is at the small coffeeshop behind UOB bank at Lavender.

So what is the attraction of this dish that keeps people coming? I guess it was the springy noodles, despite not being handmade. When the noodles are mixed together with the flavoursome thin light sauce, the entire dish turned out to be tasty and addictive, even without the tomato sauce! But the side ingredients like char siew and wanton dumplings are normal. Considering the price and the long waiting time, perhaps try once will do.

The Price
Slightly over-priced at $4.00 per plate. The $3.00 portion is too little for me hence I ordered the $4.00 version

Overall
Even though the price is more expensive than other wanton mee stalls, I will still come back again and highly recommended to try this because of the unique sauce!

This wanton mee stall is highly raved and recommended. Some even said this is the best wanton mee in Singapore. I was there for lunch. A long queue was formed right at the stall waiting for the stall to be ready at 12pm. I decided to join in. I waited for 30 minutes to be served. The smallest serving is at $4. But, i do not think it is worth the wait as there are better tasting wanton mee around.

Never did I realize wantan mee can be that amazing, I finally did after I've tried this Kok Kee stall. $4 (small) and $5 (big) for wantan mee is not exactly cheap for coffeeshop food court standard, but the perfect combination of the noodle and the sweet sauce more than justify it. Unlike traditional wantan mee, the homemade sauce, mixed with chilli, is so tasty that you will eat every spoonful of the noodles with quarter spoonful of the sauce. Anyway I hardly see anyone order the soup version so remember to go with the flow
Enjoy!

If you have eaten at Lavender Food Centre before, you would have noticed that the longest queue is the one in front of Kok Kee Wanton Noodle. And if you have looked at a plate of Kok Kee wanton mee before, you would agree with me that it looks so plain and simple, you really doubt if it tastes good. But if you have tasted Kok Kee wanton mee before, you would understand why it is so popular.

This wanton mee stall is one of the popular stalls in this food center as it is always crowded with very long queues during any times of the days. Tried their noodles and I was not really that convince for the long queue here. The noodles are chewy and good. But i do not really like the char siew meat in it which is not roasted till fragrant and the small wanton in it is only filled with minimum portion of the minced pork only. Presentation was quite alright but the taste is quite normal.

For all wanton mee lovers who cannot tolerate the spiciness of chilli, Kok Kee is just the right wanton mee for you. however, i find it actually quite oily.

Sometimes I will have a craving for wanton mee and one of the few choices I will have in mind will be Kok Kee. The mee is very springy, wantons are very filling. However the portion is not alot even for the biggest size. Usually the guys will order 2 portions to be sufficient. This is not the ideal place if you are very hungry because please expect to queue at least 15-20 min for your turn. The uncle cooks every single serving one by one.
