By far, this is THE Liu Sha Bao among all that I've tried. Priced at $5.80 for 3, it is also the most pricey ones around. Its uniquely baked exterior may standout from the usual soft and fluffy bao (bun). However, what really sets them apart from others is their potency guaranteed salted egg yolk paste!Packed with salted egg yolk flavour and molten in texture, this gives their competitors a run for their money.Apart from Liu Sha Bao, we had other common fares such as Xiao Long Bao ($4.8), Fried Carrot Cake ($8.8) and Century Egg Congee ($5.2).Squid Ink Char Siew Bun was like any other Char Siew Bun out there and probably more of a food fad than a 'legend' like their Liu Sha Bao. Having said that, the fillings had good whiffs of charred aroma.Lastly, the Steam Rice Roll - Hong Kong Styled Cheong Fun, was a disaster as it was over-dressed with gravy and odd-tasting.Not the best dim sum place for me, but I will come back anytime just for the Liu Sha Bao (Custard Buns)!More pics and thoughts at http://lepakwithyaops.com/mouth-restaurant-legendary-liu-sha-bao-custard-bun查看更多

We were there on a weekday for tea and we ordered some dimsums and cooked dishes to share. Our sweet and sour pork dish tasted just nice and not overly sweet,it goes very well with the fluffy soft rice. The chicken was really smooth and tender which i loved. The best of them all are actually the har gaus/steamed prawn dumplings. They are really fresh and juicy with delightful soft crystal clear skin. They do have on going promotions for various 6 course set meals starting from $38 which are quite attractive which i hope to come and try out soon.查看更多

A brand with much history, Mouth Restaurant was a common name from the past. Surviving through the changes within its own competition, Mouth Restaurant had also constantly refreshed its menu to keep up with the times to attract both new and their loyal customers. One widely-raved about item here that was the result of continuous innovation would be the Signature Baked Cream of Salted Egg Yolk Bun ($5.40++), a unique twist to the well-loved Salted Egg Yolk Bun. The bun is similar to Tim Ho Wan’s baked bun; with the Bo-Lo Bun’s signature crispy texture. A small bite is enough to send the yellow liquid filling exploding. The filling was tasty with a large proportion of salted egg for it. The buns were also well filled up despite them being slightly larger than usual ones.Hot off the steamer, the Steamed Har Gow ($4.20++) was bouncy and the prawn was huge and fresh, but it would have been better with a thinner skin. The meat filling of the Pork Filling Steamed Bun ($4.50++) was rather generous and the broth was warm and savoury, but the skin was again slightly too thick and it got stuck in my teeth.Despite the bun's thickness, the Steamed Char Siew Bun ($3.80++) was really fluffy! There was also a generous amount of sizable honeyed pork chunks in it, which provides quite some bite of sweet and meaty goodness.Little traces of oil was found in the ($3.50++), and the prawn was juicy and fresh. We also loved how the sweetness of the bananas which did not interfered with the taste of prawns. The mayo dip that came with this dish had fruits such as pineapples tossed into it, which gave it a refreshing taste.Pan Fried Carrot Cake ($3.80++) was soft and contained a lot of lupcheong to further enhance its flavour. It was also not oily, which makes it less sickening to eat.Steamed Siew Mai with Fish Roe ($4.20++) was chewy with the amount of pork stuffed, but it was the Fish Roe that made it really addictive with the burst in the mouth. While many of the menu items may have changed, it seems that Mouth Restaurant had gone for the better. The offerings are up-to-date, following the latest trends, which definitely encourages loyal patrons to come back again to try the new items. Mouth Restaurant also seemed to be generous with their fillings, as seen with all items we ordered. For its pricing, this place is worth the value. If you ever visit, never give the Signature Baked Cream of Salted Egg Yolk Bun; it is something that makes you want more! For more photos and the full review, please visit: http://jiaksimipng.wordpress.com/2014/01/16/mouth-restaurant-%E5%9C%B0%E8%8C%82%E9%A6%86-plaza-singapura/查看更多

Their Liu Sha Bao is absolutely must try here. The outer layer is crispy and the inner filling is very generous. Sometimes they might be sold out, so be prepared to make a reservation in advance if you gonna go in large group. We had a few dishes and some of them are quite unique, such as the squid ink char siew bao, and seven color xiao long bao. We ordered a few more Liu Sha Bao for takeaway after we are leaving, and surprisingly they still taste as good when we reach home one hour later!查看更多

I've read about a few unique dim sum dishes at Mouth Restaurant and so specially made a trip there to try them. They have a tea time promo from 3 to 5pm, 30% off dim sum; but the colouful har gao, squid ink bun and liu sha bao are all not included in the promo. We loved the XO sauce that came with the colouful har gao ($9.80), the skin made from sweet potato, squid ink, pumpkin, carrot, spinach, if I'm not wrong. They actually taste rather similar but it's quite attractive with it's different colours. Squid Ink Char Siew Bao ($5++) is not available for dinner (their other dim sums are available whole day will 7.45pm); it's really normal char siew bao, just that perhaps the bun is a little fluffier than the normal ones.Had to try their famous liu sha bao ($5.40) which is baked instead of a steamed bun; didn't like that the filling was very oily, and I would prefer steamed buns as the salted egg custard is already very overwhelming and oily, and the baked bun is buttery as well, a plain bun would be better. Was disappointed that they didn't have the dessert combination I saw on pictures (perhaps only at the other outlet) that came with durian mochi (?). I nevertheless ordered the purple sweet potato puree to try. It was cold and grainy, a good refreshing dessert, but quite filling, so it's better to share.Bill came up to $40 for 2.查看更多

I have bought a whole scallion chicken coupon from Qoo10.sg at only $10.50 , which usual price suppose to be near to $20 per whole chicken. When I reached the restaurant, the service staffs are quite friendly and helpful. Restaurant layout was abit squeezy but still quite cooling. I have bought back the chicken home to share with my family. The chicken meat is tender and really soft and moist in texture. The chicken skin is glossy and smooth and super fragrant. Without and condiments to go along, it still taste good. I suppose a whole chicken is good to share among 3 to 5 people.查看更多

I heard that Mouth restaurant has opened a new outlet at Plaza Singapura, thus decided to check it out with my friend. As far as Mouth is concerned, she is famous for her salted egg yolk custard bun or commonly known as 'Liu Sha Bao'. Hence, we decided to give it a try. On top of that, we also ordered squid ink char siew bao, banana fritters and others. The reason for ordering the unusual, because we want to break away the norm from the usual dim sum delicacies like char siew bao and siew mai. The texture of 'Liu Sha Bao' over at Mouth is flaky instead of soft. When cut open, you can see luscious of salted egg yolk lava oozing out from the slit. Squid ink char siew bao is delightfully delicate with generous filling of sweet char siew. Banana fritter is crisp on the outer layer and moist in the interior with tangy banana fillings. In a nutshell, 'Liu Sha Bao' tastes unexpectedly sweet, rather than with a salty-sweet combination. Surprisingly, banana fritters, though it looks simple and normal, but it emerge to be the best in taste out of all; crunchy, sweet and arouse my palate with a nice fragrance of sesame.查看更多

So I heard about the famous 6 assorted flavors har gow from Mouth Restaurant. I guess the concept was inspired from the assorted flavors of the xiao long bao. The 6 beautifully colored har gow makes the whole dish very appetizing. The flavors were carrot, squid ink, pumpkin, spinach and sweet potato. My favorite is the pumpkin one as it tasted really good with a pinch of sweetness from the pumpkin. The dish also comes with a XO sauce in the middle which enhances the whole haw gow flavor. The restaurant can get crowded during weekends so its recommended to make a reservation prior to visit.查看更多

Readers. Just like the title die die must try don't try will die. What am I talking about? Its their custard bun, 流沙包. The restaurant manager came personally to the entrance to promote the custard bun. Using this quote "die die must try don't try will die" true enough its rather delicious but can't be compared to royal china or yan ting yet. But its still worth going for it. Apart from that the pricing is not too expensive. I ordered har gao, siew mai, custard bun and tako cheese coquette. The rest are alright. But don't even bother ordering the take cheese coquette. Its disappointing. Serivice and queue time was alright. Variety of dim sum wasn't that wide. But still ok. Overall I would rate it 7/10查看更多

Click http://dairycream.blogspot.sg/2013/05/mouth-restaurant-dim-sum.html for Full Review and Pics :)Mouth Restaurant has revamped their menu since last year and the new items are reinterpretations of traditional dim sum. The Family went to its newly opened branch at Plaza Singapura during a weekend high tea session from 3-5pm but sadly, many items like the squid ink bun and their signature Xiao long Bao were not available. The Rainbow Har Gao in 6 ($9.80) mimics the concept of multi-flavor Xiao long Bao. The skin was of the right thickness but the individual flavor of shrimp meat was not distinctive as its pork counterpart in XLB. Do not mistaken this Squid Ink Seafood Soup 7.80 for herbal jelly. The base is a egg white custard, topped with a thick soup that is rich and tasty. The best thing I can remember is their Baked salted Egg Yolk (3 for $5) Unlike typical steamed bun, the mildly sweetened outer crust is crisp like a HK-style Bo Lo Bun, that released viscous and creamy golden lava. Though some might find it to be much more greasy than usual kind, but who will say no to custard buns?:)The Sweet Potato Roll $3.60 and Tako Cheese Croquette $4.80 sounded special but turned out to be dry, starchy and pedestrian. Instead of the usual Chee cheong fun, we ordered the XO-style Pan Fried version with prawn and charshu $8.80. It turned out to resemble stir-fried kway teow. I like the slightly browned surface of the rice rolls that makes this dish fragrant but the taste of XO-sauce was not amplified. Some of the mandatory dimsum items included the chicken claws w chilli $3.90 and the Spare ribs with pumpkin $4.50 and the Fried Beancurd skin roll $ 3.20. The Sauteed Premium scallops, wild mushrooms in XO sauce were slightly overpriced to me at $26 even though those jumbo scallops were fresh and not overcooked. The combination of crunchy celery and slimy fungi made this dish less boring. Conclusion: Higher chances of securing popular dim sum items if we were to come in the morning. Would be more keen to revisit for their revamped ala carte dishes, which were in our memories, more delicious than the dim sum. Some items are creative but their quality vary. Hopefully my favourite egg tarts that were nowhere to be found, can appear on their dimsum menu one day...... For Full Post, visit: www.dairycream.blogspot.sg查看更多

The menu is pretty expansive and I most common dim sum dishes are available. The restaurant is clean and conducive, pretty spacious and welcoming. I went on a weekday during high tea hours so there wasn't any crowd, thus I cannot comment on the service during peak hours. The price is a little bit high but the food is reasonable for that. Har GaoThe har gao's skin wasn't thick. It was just nice. Prawns were crunchy and juicy. The steamed BBQ pork bun looks light and fluffy and it really is!The beautiful bloom resembles a huat kueh. I don't fancy steamed buns than have a layer of skin on the outside and I will always peel it off before eating. The char siew filling was pretty good, not too sweet and not too starchy as well.Fried Prawn Dumplings (明虾饺)This was okay, there was not strong "kee" taste and it goes well with the mayonnaiseFried Beancurd Skin Roll a.k.a Tau Kee (腐皮卷)I like the tau kee here! As you can see, the skin is not those that is slightly translucent. It it fried till almost opaque. With a light, extremely crispy outer skin and juicy inner fillings.. Thumbs upBraised Ee-fu NoodlesAgain, the usual Ee-fu noodles that are usually served in chinese restaurants and wedding dinners.I love ee-fu noodles and this was just as enjoyable as most that I've eaten.Xiao Long BaoAmazed by the size! The Xiao Long Baos are really huge and look at the amount of soup/juice contained within each of them!Baked Liu Sha BaoThis was probably the best dish that afternoon. It totally blew me away. The baked crust is sweet and thing, with a little bit of crisp (think of those Fried Man Tous that goes together with Chilli Crab). Once you sink your teeth into the bun, the molten, liquid egg yolk flows out.Not for the faint hearted and those in poor health. For more photos visit: http://drunkene.blogspot.sg/2013/05/mouth-restaurant.html查看更多

As today is a public holiday, decide to have hi tea with family. As we has a voucher for ala carte dim sum buffet, therefore decide to come here. The time slot for buffet is short, 2.30pm to 4.15pm. Remember to make reservation before you come as it seems that alot of people also have the promotion vouchers. The special dishes for this weekend are Liu Sa Bao and Wild Vegetable in Blended Thai Sauce. The Liu Sa Bao here is very unique as it has crispy skin. Usually the ones sold outside has soft and thin skin. I still remember the first time I has the ones here, the filling landed on all of us. The wild vegetable dish is just a simple salad, light and refreshing. The steamed Har Gao and Deep Fried Prawn Dumpling is limited to 2 pieces per person. Har Gao is juicy with fat prawn in it, but I prefer the outlet's rainbow colored Har Gao which is much more tasty. Deep Fried Prawn Dumpling has too thick skin and the skin has an awful bitter after taste. Even the dipping sauce cannot help it.For desserts : there is Hot Cream of Red Bean Soup (Very thick and creamy), Cold Cream of Purple Sweet Potato, Chilled Herbal Jelly (Very bitter that I cannot take it), Hot Cream of Black Seasame Paste ( Very thick and creamy) and Chilled Double Boiled White Fungus (Very cooling and refreshing). But out all of the desserts, I like the Cream of Purple Sweet Potato the best as it leaves a lasting impression with its bright purplish color.Total cost for 4 persons with hot tea after GST & service charge = $100.75 (Please note that we are using vouchers - $19.90/ person)Overall feel that the meal is just so-so. Most of the dishes do not make a impression. Please think twice before you order as all the dishes come all at once after you placed your order. It makes the table so packed, even we having a six-person table. 查看更多

Mouth’s BBQ Platter ($28)Crispy Skin Roasted Duck, BBQ Char Siew, Crispy Skin Roasted Pork, Marinated Sliced Jelly Fish in Blended Sauce.Feels funny the roasted pork to go with the wasabi like sauce. The plum sauce is better.Pork Congee with Intestine and Century Egg ($8.20) Supposed to be spicy, but asked for non spicy version as it sounds to have spicy congee. The intestine pieces are well cooked – seasoned, fried but soft.Fried Hong Kong Mee Sua ($15) Very simple and well cooked. Feel like eating bee hoon.Rainbow Har Gou The XO sauce in the central of the basket is very nice. Baked cream of salted yolk bun The skin is not the usual kind, more of crispy and hard type here.查看更多
