I like to have lunch at Ootoya. It serves very authentic and delicious Japanese cuisine. Today I ordered Katsu Don - Pork Cutlet Rice with egg. The pork cutlet is thick and the portion is big. It is covered with bread crumbs and fried to golden brown and top with egg and onion and light brown sauce. They use short grain Japanese rice And it is served in a very pretty wooden Japanese box. Ootoya is one of the few Japanese restaurants I would definitely order rice at. Their unique selling point is the different types of rice you can choose from like Hijiki Seaweed Rice. Grilled Pork Loin with Shio Kouji （盐麹）sauce of this restauranrt is so excellent, so delicious.I think it is one of the best pork dishes in Singapore or Hong Kong. I and my wife enjoyed it very much. Shop manager said that Shio Kouji is a kind of fermented rice, salt and water. It is one of traditional codiments.Adding this Shio Kouji, the taste becomes so refreshing. So intreresting!Try it !!!

Natto is a kind of fermented soy beans that you will find exclusively in Japanese restaurant, or supermarket. I never tried one before, so I just ordered one during my visit to Ootoya Japanese restaurant. The price is reasonable ($3.50), and the dish is presented in such a nice way that it looks appetizing. However, I find the taste very strong, the kind of turned-bad taste, and I reckon one would have very acquired taste to like it.

The little 'take away' kiosk outside the Ootoya Japanese restaurant sure has bring in quite many business from walk by customers and the young teenagers. Different types of barbeque stick meats are prepared and sold at the kiosk. Personally I like their scallop stick which the scallop is well cooked and marinated with their special Japanese dark sauce which make it very fragrant and juicy. went down to ootoya for dinner recently and ordered the soba with teriyaki chicken don set. the soba was not too bad, quite chewy but i think if cold soba might taste even better than warm soba. for the don, the chicken portion was quite generous and tasted quite nice. the good thing about ordering a set meal is that you can have free flow of rice and there are different kind of rice so you can try the different taste.
