Theme color of the restaurant resides in dark brown color with a cemented floor space. Interior Design gives diner a modern Japanese feel, making the place cozy under the bright warm lights.

Dashi Tamago was served in 6 cubes, yellow in color with radish
tucked by the side of the plate. It was a tad on the sweet side and
since the cubes were made up by layers of eggs, it was very fragile and
tends to collapse easily when we had them.

Out of the 3 flavours of chawanmushi available, the only available was the one with unagi. Initially, we wanted to ordered chicken (tori). Chawanmushi was not as wobbly and was filled with a few piece of unagi at the bottom of the porcelain.

Kyushu Tonkotsu Style Ramen consists of rich flavourful cloudy broth whereby pork bones were being boiled for over 12 hours. Noodles was thin and straight, like the size of our local "mee kia". Ramen was accompanied with toppings like bamoboo shoots, chopped scallions, kikurage (wood ear mushroom), naruto (fishcake), sliced cha shu (pork belly).

I had the Tokyo Style ramen in soy sauce flavoured soup and sliced roast pork. The noodles was springy and curly, accompanied with chopped scallions, bamboo shoots, naruto (fishcake), sliced pork and baby spinach.

Based on the Cha Shu from the two bowls of Ramen ordered, the meat has nothing outstanding and rather ordinary but still the tender soft and chewable bites

The service was pleasant and left a good impression to me. Our cups of plain water were topped up from time to time and the service staff will pop by once a while to get feedback.

Salmon Sashimi ($8.80). I like their salmon here, as I don't get the strong fishy taste as I get from other places.
Black Pepper Chicken Wings ($8.80) with sweet shoyu sauce. Just the photo itself should be able to justify how tasty it is! I love tender and juicy chicken wings

Mentaimayo Gyoza ($6.80 for 6 pieces). Salted cod roe pan-fried dumplings with spring onion and mayonnaise. Gyoza is not as crispy as I would love to have, and fillings are mostly spring onions. But it isn't dry at all... Plus point!
The ramens are not really that delicious.. But their sides do deserve a thumbs up
If I were to return again, I definitely will not skip the sides!

I decided to give Menya Koji another chance as I was at Paragon and this was the only place without a queue. I have tried their ramen previously, which was a real disappointment. First up on the table was Salmon Carpaccio ($8.80++); a Salmon sashimi dish served with Italian dressing with onions. The salmon sashimi tasted relatively fresh, with the italian dressing providing a bit of a zingy lemon flavour that made the sashimi less fishy in it’s taste; good for people who are not very receptive on the fishy taste of sashimi and made it simply refreshing to have slice after slice.

I ordered Tonkatsu Curry Rice ($15.80++). The deep fried Pork has a really crispy fried batter which was just a delight to sink your teeth into, but the pork was slightly stiff and hard to bite off. I literally had to chuck the whole piece of Tonkatsu in my mouth and twirl it in my tongue to try breaking the piece of pork in my mouth before I actually can chew it into tiny bits. While that being said, the curry sauce was just alright and is sweet enough without being spicy at all, with chunks of carrot that are boiled soft to chew.

I thought the Shiratama Cream Zenzai ($5.20++) was nothing much, given that it was only red-bean with glutinous rice balls with ice-cream. I was wrong; the vanilla ice-cream really blended well with the red beans which gave it a slight creamy and milky flavour and the glutinous rice balls were very chewy and bouncy.

Went back to try the special cha cha ramen at promotion price of $7.50++.Although, queue was evidently long, service was considered fast. They even employed part-time to help out with the event so as to shorten serving time! Just 2 comments, egg yolk was a little shaken up and not as gooey as how I liked it & the soup was filled with fats!! Maybe the chef was too busy with tons of orders coming in that he didn't have time to remove all of them.Nevertheless, taste-wise, it was out of the world!

Cha Shu Shoyu Ramen. $15.80
I was abit hesitant as this is the first time I'm trying a shoyu soup base. It turns out it is not as salty as I expect.

However, personally, I still prefer the chicken or pork bone broth.

The noodles were springy and yummy! Usually, I'll give my husband half of the noodles but this is the first time that I don't mind adding more noodles! That shows how yummy it is!!

Daikokuya Tsukemen. $13.50
My husband ordered the dry ramen which comes with a bowl of soup to dip in. Interesting~

If you want to drink the soup, ask for clear broth to be poured in. Beware of the saltiness of the soup. I tried the soup after it was mixed with the clear broth and still finds it too salty for me.

If you like Jiro-style ramen, you will like Daikokuya Ramen. Jiro-style has fatty light broth with lots of bean sprouts and chopped garlic. I like! The ramen comes in two flavours: miso or shoyu. I picked the lighter shoyu one that was able to demonstrate the freshness of the other ingredients. You can add white vinegar if you so wished but I advise not in order to preserve the original flavours.

The noodles are slightly fatter and springy which comes with a better bite. They were very generous with the ingredients too, all were fresh and tender. Overall, the food was great.

One unique thing about Daikokuya is that this restaurant serves some special choices of Gyoza. Hence, I have decided to forgo the original ones and ordered the Mentaimayo Gyoza (6 pcs) which are salted cod roe pan-fried dumplings with salted cod roe & mayonnaise. Indeed, it was really good, didn't know that Gyoza would go well with cod roe, crispy and crunchy at the same time!

Overall, had a quick dinner there on a weekend, good ramen experience. Would love to visit again for another Gyoza speciality!

Both of us ordered the same side dish which is the salmon sashimis. 3 silces each, real fresh and I love the bright pink colour of it. My friend's rice bowl is unagi. He did not comment much except for being too full after eating all that ramen. Mine was the Ikura rice bowl. I was a little stunned when it came. I did not expect it to be minced and I felt like I was eating baby food. Simple and not too bad.

Daikokuya is a place for Japanese food and ramen lovers. Service is fantastic and prompt perhaps because it's not the peak hours. We had salmon sashimi and it is really fresh!!! Gyoza is crispy on the outside with tasty fillings on the inside. The meat are fresh and juicy. I had chawanmushi, a side not to be missed while visiting any Japanese restaurant. It is smooth and tasty as well. All in all, my experience here was great!
