Having passed by Yixing Xuan Teahouse for years, and being keenly aware of its existence all this while, today was the chosen day to have my lunch there. This authentic teahouse is interesting because it is a restaurant serving lovely dimsum dishes, it is a school teaching tea appreciation, and it is a retail shop selling many kinds of traditional tea leaves as well as tea equipment (teapots and teacup sets). There are also tea appreciation workshops that one has to book in advance, to learn about the beauty and benefits of drinking tea.Thedining area is done in a very ancient Chinese style, complete with white marble-top tables and an Oriental backdrop. The service is rather attentive in a sincere manner, and the ambience brings one back in time, back to olden Chinese days where one is soothed by a quiet tea hut and may relax to enjoy a good meal. The first dish was the Har Gow (SGD$3.30) - steamed prawn dumplings, that almost every table ordered. My hopes for fresh, succulent shrimps dashed the moment I took the first bite. Disappointingly, the prawns were not fresh, and I could not understand why everyone ordered this dish. There was no bouncy sweetness to the flesh; there was an almost sour tinge to the dumplings, and the crystalline skin embracing it was nearly too sticky. Finally, the Seafood Tofu (SGD$10.00) with meltingly-soft beancurd in a very smooth texture, topped with minced mini-patty of seafood (prawns detectable), and infused in a tasty savoury gravy - this was a very lovely dish and the beancurd pieces were so silken smooth one could just slurp it in (like soya beancurd) and it would slide the throat beautifully (I think). For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/06/lunch-at-yixing-xuan-teahouse.html 繼續閱讀

Yixing Xuan Teahouse 怡心軒 located along Tanjong Pagar Road, is just a few units away from 2D1N Soju Bang. It is essentially a teahouse that specialises in conducting tea appreciation and tea tasting classes. In addition, they serve chinese cuisines and dim sum too. Yet again, we were surprised that we were the only one! Not a single customer except for the two of us.This time, we noticed the decorations on the ceiling. Quite nice and fits the oriental theme of this eatery. As you may recall, we were quite please with the foodie experience during our first visit. This time, we decided to try different dishes while still sticking to ordering Carrot Cake again. The Carrot Cakes was steamed before serving. Most probably to make it hot, as it would be quite impossible for them to make from scratch only upon customers' orders. The Carrot Cakes were not oily or salty. They were topped with lots of spring onions and scallions that enhanced the taste further. $3 for only 3 pieces, this was so value for money. The Steamed Chicken Rice would be sufficient for one person. Marinated chicken, sausages and mushroom were added on top of the rice and steamed. It was also drizzled with chicken sauce. It was an average dish with nothing great in particular. The Mee Sua on the other hand was well executed. The taste of the different ingredients were extracted out into the Mee Sua. And the vegetables provided a different texture to this dish. Delicious! Thumbs up! The Soup of the Day was Watercress Soup. It came in a small bowl that did not justify the price tag. Moreover, the watercress stems were hard, could have been cooked for a long period.Overall, still a positive dining experience. We had the whole place to ourselves again! Food-wise, it was delicious! Service was good and the staff brought out extra smaller plates for us so that we could share the dishes. In addition, they had actually use 2 plates to hold the carrot cakes. This was because, they had steamed the carrot cakes with the plate. Hence, when they served this dish, they added another plate so that customers will not be scalded when they shift the plate. To add the icing on the cake, there was no service charge or GST. The prices shown on the menu are all NETT. So affordable considering the quality and taste of the food. My hubby knowing I love dim sum, brought me to Yixing Xuan Teahouse for dim sum one day. Once you enter the place, it gives you the feel to have dim sum because the decorations and interior design are very oriental. We quickly placed our orders and we got those standard stuff like siew mai, yam cake, har gow. The har gow here is good. The prawns are large and fresh and the skin of the har gow is thin and soft. I also enjoyed the yam cake as it is very flavourful without being salty and I could taste the bits of yam within the yam cake. As for the siew mai, it is also quite nice as the prawn taste is more distinct and it is not to greasy. Overall, this is a good place to have dim sum with the nice ambience and above average food. 繼續閱讀

I went with my friends for birthday celebration on Monday evening. The ambience is nice with Chinese music played at the background. It isn't crowded so we can have nice chit-chat.We ordered fried rice, green tea pancake and tea.The Chinese tea came in cups and we can add hot water once we finish. The fried rice is ok. Personally, I find it a bit too salty but my friends had no complaints.I like the green tea pancake. It's crispy on the outside and the green tea paste is not too sweet.I would definitely recommend others to try the green tea pancake. 繼續閱讀
