Penang Ah Long Lor Bak - Malaysian Food Street (已結業)

The sinful yet must try dish that one must try from a Malaysian Food Street especially when we get to see little of such cuisine from our local hawker centers and food courts. Being a weekend, queues were expected everywhere and seating was an issue with diners being pressurized by others who are standing beside the table, hoping to "chope" some seats. The lor bak here is supposedly famous, being in the Malaysian food street. I seldom order this dish but we shared a platter among our family members when we dined here. A combination plate comes with ngoh hiong, tofu fish cake and other types of fried pieces. I liked the tofu pieces soft and crisp on the outside, which went very well with the sauce provided. The sauce is a mix of sweet chilli sauce and starchy lor mee style gravy.

Not the worth the calories - this is how I would describe the food from this stall. Given that most of the food are fried stuff and hence, kinda sinful / not diet-friendly, I am kinda disappointed that the food is not up to standard. With the exception of the ngoh hiang is quite delicious, the rest tastes only average. Hence, if the queue for this stall is long, I think you will not regret giving it a miss.

I seldom eat lor bak but my mother went to order a set for us to try it. Luckily she chose the items that i like too. It is not very cheap but it is very very yummy!!! I love the tau gua the most as it was so crispy and the lor bak is also great too. The fish ball is very chewy too as well. Remember to dip it in the sauce as it adds a punch to the food definitely.

I ordered the set Lor Bak which cost $8. It comes with 1 whole century egg with pickled pink ginger, fish ball, a pieces of fried tofu, yam roll and crispy fritters. I am never really a lor bak fans, but this Penang Ah Long Lor Bak looks pretty attractive from the first glance. You can choose whichever stuffs you want, or to save the hassle, you can simply choose to order the set, where you will get a combination of everything.
