I have been other outlets managed under Paradise Group, but to Canton Paradise, this was still my first. Canton Paradise focus on the Cantonese popular delights, such as the roast meat and dim sum, as though bringing you to Hong Kong.
One of Canton Paradise must-order is the BBQ Pork Belly with Honey Sauce. But not wanting to miss out on the all-time favorite, Kampong Chicken, we ordered the BBQ Combination ($18.80 for 2 varieties) that comes in either 2 or 3 varieties.
We had actually wanted the normal BBQ Pork with Honey Sauce and the Steamed Kampong Chicken in Canton Style, but was strongly recommended by the crew to try their BBQ Pork Belly with Honey Sauce. It can be sinful to the health-conscious people, but it is really good. Every bite I took made me lick my lips clear of the sweet honey sauce and enjoying the tenderness of the pork belly. Their Steamed Kampong Chicken in Canton Style is nowhere inferior to the BBQ Pork Belly too.
Steamed "Ling Zhi" Spring Water Tofu with Minced Pork and Salted Fish ($13.80). Three big pieces of wobbly tofu, with salted fish mashed and mixed with the minced meat to steam. I am glad that the taste of salted fish is quite mild, and thus able to enjoy the tofu and minced meat without a stain of detestation.
Crisp Fried Crystal Prawns tossed with Salted Egg Yolk ($18.80). I had several occurrences with dishes cooked with salted egg yolk, and I would say this dish does meet my expectation. Taste of salted egg has subtly merged with the prawns, and thus making this entire dish enjoyable instead of feeling like eating salted egg yolk and fried prawns separately.

We are fans of Canton Paradise & had tried out their food on many occasions. We love their beautifully caramelized char siew, very moist & flavourful. I personally love their steamed kampung chicken as it is extremely smooth & tender

Baked BBQ Honey Pork Bun is a must when we came to Canton Paradise. We think their buns are pretty good & comparable to Tim Ho Wan. Their petite char siew soh is very addictive, buttery flaky skin with sweet tender char siew fillings. Love their silky smooth porridge. Their deep fried stuffs were yummy though they were a tad oily.

Overall, food are awesome. On a side note, do take a look at your plates, drinking glass & utensils before you use them. I find them not cleansed properly with food stains on them

I heard that the Gula Melaka Milk Tea here is good but sadly, they were not selling the drink that day. I settled on having their Ginger milk tea, which is nice! My mom loves these kind of fried carrot cakes but as for me, I prefer the fried sticks! The first few bites were okay but subsequent bites left me feeling kind of gelat. My mom also found it to be so-so only.

After browsing through their menu filled with many different varieties of dishes, I have to order my favourite Steamed Pork "Siew Mai" Dumpling (4pcs - $5.60). Served in a wooden basket, the dumplings were huge and were filled generously with juicy minced pork and topped with some prawn roe. What a burst of flavours on the palate!

While browsing through the menu earlier on, the friendly waitress recommended me a few dishes and this Crispy BBQ Honey Pork Bun (3pcs - $4.80) caught my attention. Instead of having 'char siew' in a soft white buns, this is baked in a fluffy buttery pastry instead. Although it crumbles easily, it adds a nice soft yet crunchy bite to the succulent BBQ honey pork slices in it.

After "yum cha" high tea won't be complete without the smooth and delicious Chicken and Mushroom Congee ($6.80). Although it looks plain, the porridge was flavoursome with a light douse of sesame oil, spring onions and pepper. The chicken slices were generously huge and I love how the mushrooms added a tinge of sweetness that complements the overall dish.

It was a relaxing afternoon dining here as the ambiance was nice, cozy and relaxing without much of a crowd. Service staffs were very attentive to refill our tea from time to time too. Great high-tea experience which is definitely much better compared to Old HK tea house.

Canton Paradise is not cheap for sure. But the dim sum is seriously good. My favourite is the baked char siew pau. It is filled with chunks of savory and saucy pieces of juicy and fatty meat which is super duper tasty. It is piping hot and encased by a soft bun which is slightly buttery in taste. The top is the best being crisp and crunchy especially when eaten hot! My new favourite! Additionally, the siew mais and the char siew sou is also fantastic! I really like those items!

This place serves up pretty good dim sum at affordable prices. I tried the BBQ pork bun that has a crispy outer layer. Seems like a copy of Tim Ho Wan (the HK one) in terms of design. The taste is just slightly lower than that because the crispy outer layer was way too flaky. The egg tarts are pretty forgettable. What I really liked was the liu sha bao or lava custard bun. It was not too oily and the liu sha was really flowing. Excellent.

Ever since this place opened, my family and I have been here countless of times! We love the dim sum and usually order the works: Hao Gao, Siew Mai, Lotus rice, carrot cake, chee cheong fun, porridge, all really tasty! Above average-tasting egg tarts too, but mind you they're only nice eaten in the restaurant. I bought some in the evening to takeaway and they tasted stale.

Just for the record, as at time of writing, I've been to Canton Paradise a total of 9 times in 3 months, but this is probably going to be my only post on Canton Paradise (I am usually too famished during lunch to bother taking photos). And yes, I'm that crazy about dim sum.

The place is huge and sports a rather "ancient Chinese" decor with its uneven brick walls and wooden decorative panels. If you can stand the cold air conditioning, ask for a booth seat (2-4 pax) because the other tables are spaced a tad too close for comfortable conversation.

BBQ Combination - We had the combination platter of BBQ pork belly with honey sauce and roasted pork, of which the former was sinfully better with a high fat to meat ratio and smothered in gooey honey marinade. I personally like to eat the BBQ pork belly with the salted peanuts that are served alongside. Makes for a nice contrast in both areas of taste and texture. Unfortunately, the BBQ pork's skin wasn't crisp enough and I think they need to add in a wee bit more salt for flavouring.

Steamed Cheong Fun with BBQ Pork - The cheong fun featured translucent but rather limp skin with a reasonable amount of BBQ pork filling. Decent but no great shakes. And remember to eat immediately when served, lest it turns cold and clammy.

Steamed Prawn Dumplings - Fresh, crunchy prawns coupled with translucent but mildly elastic skin. Pretty decent.

Steamed Pork Dumplings - The "porkyness" of the siew mai wasn't too overwhelming and the fat to lean meat ratio was reasonable. As with most dim sum items, eat them while they are hot.

Century Egg Porridge with Lean Meat - I personally think the porridge, especially the 皮蛋瘦肉粥, at Canton Paradise is quite good and this is one of the main reasons why I keep coming back. Consistently sticky with visible rice grains and a subtle, savoury aftertaste. And that's coming from someone who doesn't take century egg. The meatball porridge is nice as well but a little on the bland side.

Baked BBQ Honey Pork Bun - This is reminiscent of the one I had at Tim Ho Wan in HK. Unfortunately, the standards did not quite match up. For starters, the base was overly oily and the BBQ pork wasn't gooey enough. Decent but try the real thing from Tim Ho Wan when it opens in Singapore!

If my memory serves me correct, the bill for this lunch came up to around $50, which is pretty much the range you pay for decent quality dim sum these days. However the staff did seem a little overwhelmed with the place running at almost full capacity, which naturally led to slower service and forgotten requests.

First time visitors to Canton Paradise Restaurant at B1 of 112 Katong may find it just a little eerie with chilly aircon, bare granite walls and dim lighting (think The Ship Restaurant), if not for the show kitchen with big windows, the staff who greet & show you the way to your table and the buzz of diners' conversations inside the dining hall itself. The main colour theme was royal purple upholstery on dull granite gray. There are round tables that seat up to 10 each, booth seats for groups of up to four diners and a row of square tables for couples, scalable to seat bigger groups. Canton Paradise is an all-day restaurant with a full ala carte menu at lunch & dinner; HK style congee & noodles are available up to 5pm, while dim sum which was hitherto served at lunch & tea times is now available in the evenings too ~ good for people who do not desire heavy dinners.

We opted for dim sum with free flow Chinese tea at $1.20++ per head. Only Pu Er tea is served (unless you opt for HK style milk teas from the menu which is not free flow).

Sharks Fin Dumpling Soup ($8.80++ for a single serving) ~ This was supposed to be a prelude to our dimsum lunch but ended up being served last. Perhaps demand for this soup is low so it is only prepared by the chef after diners order it. The dumpling skin resembling wonton pastry was thin & chewy, sealing in a mound of assorted dried seafood, diced dried shitake mushroom, diced yunnan ham & some loose strands of sharks fins. The double boiled soup that the dumpling was immersed in was flavorful. However, I prefer the version served at Imperial Treasure as the clearer consomme served there allowed the flavour of the dumpling's contents/fillings to take centrestage.

Steamed Rice Rolls with BBQ Pork Filling ($4.50++ for a small plate) ~ The rice rolls were soft & smooth, with balanced proportion of the rice flour wrap & diced BBQ pork. Would have preferred leaner cut of & less finely diced BBQ pork bits so that we can better appreciate the quality & taste of the meat.

Steamed Egg White & Scallop Dumpling ($4.80++ for 3pcs) ~ This was excellent, thin translucent rice paper parcels each containing a fresh scallop, steamed in a silky egg white custard & drizzed with superior soya sauce. My favourite dim sum item that is not offered at other mid-priced Cantonese restaurants like Crystal Jade & Imperial Treasure.

Deep Fried Teochew Dumpling ($4.20++ for 3pcs) ~ an oval dumpling of faintly sweet-tasting glutinous rice flour skin and savoury filling of diced roast duck, roast pork, carrot & turnip. The skin was thin, the filling was tasty & it is less heavy than other deep fried dim sum like yam puffs.

Cheesy Bacon Rolls ($4.80++ for 3pcs) ~ these are toothsome rolls of fresh squid paste wrapped in bacon & fried till delightfully crispy, then coated in melted cheese. Yummy.

The restaurant used to offer at lunchtime a dish of blanched leafy greens served with oyster sauce ($6.00++) so that diners could have some fibre with their dim sum for a balanced meal. This has now been taken off their lunch selections, so if diners want a balanced meal, they would have to pick a stir fried vegetable dish from the a la carte menu, with prices starting from $12.80++ for a standard/regular portion.

We decided not to order dessert here so that we could have the final course of our meal at Honeymoon HK Dessert Cafe which is located just around the corner on the same floor as Canton Paradise.

Service was polite and prompt, in line with the standards at all Paradise Group's restaurants.

Overall it was a pleasant dining experience.
