You would think it’d be easy to get a bowl of their prawn mee here with their long operating hours, stretching from as early as 6.30am to 4.30am the next morning, and only closed on Mondays. However, in reality, we only managed to try their prawn mee on our fourth attempt – the shop somehow never followed its own operating hours. This prawn noodle stall occupies the whole of the corner coffeeshop near to the previously popular Jackson kopitiam (closed down for development). Even though it’s somewhat hidden from the main street, the continuous flow of customers here is a good testimonial to their brisk business. We ordered the $5.50 soup and dry prawn mee with pork ribs.Overall, the taste of the prawn broth at River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles is reasonably tasty, the colour of the stock looked dark and not crimson red when compared to other prawn mee soup – which we find more appealing – yet still retaining a rich prawn flavour. Even though we’ve had more than our fair share of good prawn noodles recently, this is one prawn mee that we think is worth a try! Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review. 繼續閱讀

My friend drove me to his favourite dining place named Hoe Nam Prawn Noodles for their economic and delicious prawn noodles. The place is quite packed with people and we waited for seat around 20min before placing orders. I order the dry prawn and pork rib noodles and abalone clams dry noodles. Ordered the dry noodles so as to try out their chilli sauce there are dry chilli powder provided as well. It taste spicier but nice. The prawns are quite big & fresh and taste tender and the soup is sweet and well flavour. The noodles are very qq and the cham is chewy. 繼續閱讀

River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodle ('RSPN') is one of the most highly rated Prawn Noodle / Mee place in Singapore. A quick google will find that there are lots of glowing reviews of this establishment. This place can be consider as an 'almost' 24 hours eatery. The reason being that it is run in 2 shifts. The morning/afternoon shift is run by the sisters from the stall in middle part of the coffee shop, while at night to the wee hours in the morning, the brother run the front stall. Quite a unique arrangement. On our first visit, we went during the day around 1PM. Although it was raining, the coffee shop was packed. We need to wait a while for a table to be available. There are two ladies in the store calling the shots. One of them responsible for taking the order and the other to check if the order is completed properly. Little Devil ('LD') ordered for me the Prawn Noodle with Clams ($7), while she had the medium size Big Prawn Noodle ($5). Normally I would prefer pork ribs, but they run out of it that day. The broth looks light in colour with a slight cloudiness. First sip of the broth, you can taste the sweetness of the prawns and pork bones. The prawns are fresh while the yellow noodle is still crunchy. We normally like to mix the noodle with bee hoon, as bee hoon is better in absorbing the broth. The clams on mine is sweet, springy and resilient. Although we find the prawn noodle is good, we don't think that it is that fantastic as reviewed by many bloggers. The broth seems to be diluted, not robust enough. Some of the prawns are overcooked. We are puzzled on where the hype is coming from.Unsatisfied with the previous tasting and unfulfilled Prawn Mee cravings, LD decided we need to give it another try. This time around we went there for supper. The stall are run by all male crew. We had Big Prawn & Sliced Pork ($7); and Abalone Clams, Prawn, Pork Ribs, Pig Tails and Intestines ($12). From the first sight, the soup looks similar. Clear with a slight cloudiness in it. For the taste part, it is so much better, very robust and full of flavour. The prawns are fresh although it is still overcooked, the pork ribs and tails are tender and the small intestines are clean. For the noodles, we combine the yellow noodle with bee hoon. The bee hoon absorbs the broth better and carry it well with every slurp of the noodle. We actually very tempted to ask for a top up of the broth. Yummyy! As this is coffee shop and self service, we won't comment would say no more about those service topics. Overall, we find the Prawn Noodle at night is better compare to the morning version. The broth in the evening is just more robust. You can tell that the Prawn Mee has a lot of similarity, however this time around the execution in the evening is just much better. Cheers!!!Food: 7/10 (morning), 9/10 (evening)For the complete Chubby Botak Koala dining experience, click / copy the link below to your browser:http://www.chubbybotakkoala.com/2013/12/river-south-hoe-nam-prawn-noodle-two.html 繼續閱讀

The store looked like it is supposed to belong somewhere in penang, so nostalgic I like it. Looking at the amount of people eating here it should be nice! They still had a queue number thingy like at the doctor's. 太誇張了! Anyway I tried it and indeed, its nice. The soup is sweet and has flavour. But abit too much flavour for me. I liked their chu mee fen. Its like different from the laksa kind. 繼續閱讀

I have always been enamoured by prawn noodles. My mother had tweaked the recipe handed down by my paternal grandmother and the latest version is wonderful to say the least. And I swear the stock is better left overnight! The FoodAnyway, Hoe Nam was an early discovery in my epicurean journey of sorts during the late 1990s. The flavour has not changed much, the chilli powder still as good. Maybe the $1.20 fish cake is new, but that's about it. You get the usual suspects of big prawns, pork ribs, pig tails, intestines, clams etc in various price combos. Do not forget to ask for extra pork lard bits if you like them. If you are thick-skinned enough, you can also try asking for more soup halfway through your meal.ConclusionRemember to skip the pork ribs as they tend to be a little tough. The dry version is not likely to excite you too. Do not stinge, get the $5-version or above, it is worth the price. Try to be there during off-peak timings like 11.00am. 繼續閱讀
