We were divided in our choices, some of us love durian to death, the others would never go near it with a ten-feet pole. Out of so many desserts I've tried here, the Taiwan Aiyu Jelly is the most refreshing of the lot, especially with a spritz of lime and a good dose of mangoes. I would still prefer the durian desserts over their mango ones though.

As usual, the durian snow ice with durian ice-cream takes the crown for me. Please try it when you're there!

My girlfriend and me were looking forward to have hide ourselves in an air-conditioned place for our desserts after having steamboat at The House Of Steamboat, so we slowly walked to this outlet.

It was a crowded eatery place upon reaching there.

When the desserts being served to other tables, I found that the owner are using natural ingredients that were locally available such as Mango Sago With Pamelo.

Since I like it's signature dish, so I ordered Durian Shaved Ice for myself and the other two for my girlfriend.

Durian Shaved Ice 榴莲雪花冰 is just like Ice Kacang. The former Ice Kacang is a rainbow mountain of ice flavoured with gula manis, but Durian Shaved Ice dessert is originated from Taiwan, which I believed so...

I opted for the durian shaved ice with condensed milk because it was so delicious. If you are durian lovers with fresh milk, this is a suitable dessert for you.

Ordered traditional bowl of beancurd, it was cold. Silky smooth with sweetly delightful, combination was great. Enjoy the delicious mixture without worries of putting on weight, it was healthy and naturally done. $3.00 for my dessert was cheap. The staffs were asking our feedback, both of us obediently filled up the opinion form. I found it quite pleasant in general, nothing to complain about.

Shaved ice was smoothly soft, creatively accompanied sweet Banana beside. Every bite delivered a boosting Choco aroma with crunchiness corn-flakes. Solid yet melted easily in mouth, it was a refreshing treat during a stuffy night. Price was within budget, $5.00 can be shared among two people.

That will be along Liang Seah Street which has the three big players in the Hong Kong dessert scene: Desserts First 糖水先, Ah Chew Desserts and Ji De Chi. I observed that Desserts First is usually the most crowded, especially after dinner time.

During peak hours (i.e. after dinner, lunch), sharing tables with strangers is a must if you are with friends in small groups. That's because the tables are mostly for big groups. I went during off-peak hours during a weekend afternoon and there was no crowd. Mandarin pop songs were played which made me felt like I was in Taiwan instantly.

The menu is on the table. After you decide what you want, proceed to order at the cashier.

If you are a durian lover like me, you must try the Durian Shaved Ice ($6, below). Either Durian Shaved Ice or the Durian Snow Ice. They used real D24 durians. Look at the top .. It's real durian fruit which was rich, sweet and pungent. Every bite delivered a robust and icy durian taste. Chomping on the shaved ice and the smooth and creamy durian - a great way to relief from the heat. However, be careful if you are eating with a Durian hater. He/She might squeal in disgust if he/she catches a whiff of that durian smell which I insist it is fragrant!

The Green Tea Snow Ice with Red Beans ($5, below) was also a winner. It carried a bit of bitterness with the "just nice" amount of sweetness. The accompanying red beans were sweet and complemented the green tea well. The "snow ice" were firm yet soft and melts in the mouth, making it a refreshing treat on a hot day.

The mango desserts are also their specialty. The Mango Snow Ice ($5.50, below) is my favourite! The mangoes were not overly sour but sweet. Layers of the "snow ice" were smooth and each of them were rich with the sweet and slightly sour mango taste. Mixed with the cubes of mango, it was heavenly! The accompanying nata de coco pieces were also very nice and addictive to chew on.

Waffle with Nutella and Bananas with Vanilla Ice-cream ($6.50, below) was perfectly done too. The waffle was crispy and the combination of nutella sauce and bananas was excellent. The vanilla ice-cream was sweet and creamy. Atop the hot waffle, it was a delicious treat.

Service speed was average and not fast, maybe due to the long preparation time needed to make the "snow ice". However, be patient and you will be rewarded
A tip is to avoid dinner/lunch times as you would need to wait for some time for a seat. The portions are also very big and it's a good idea to share if you are a small-eater. Overall, we loved this place very much. This place is a must-try!

After a steamboat dinner at Bugis area, we decided to visit dessert first to satisfied our sweet tooth. The durian ice was served in a generous amount, next it was very rich and creamy. It was even topped with a scoop of durian flesh, which make this dessert so perfect. Lastly, we also had some herbal jelly to reduce the heatiness from the durian. Herbal jelly was very affordable as it cost less than $2.

Dessert First is a little cafe along the row of shophouses and the simple setting within the cafe gives it feel a very rustic feel, like dining by the roadside of Taiwan with the small tables and chairs.

I love pumpkin and went for something healthier on the menu, the Homemade Pumpkin Skin Tang Yuan ($3.50). There are 4 glutinous rice balls and they are served in the floral osmanthus soup that is lightly sweet in taste.

The decadence of the chocolate sauce in the rice ball is sure to get you addicted to it. It’s a very popular choice among the younger crowd to go for the chocolate ones as they enjoy the sensation of the warm chocolate in that springy bite size rice ball.

I was still feeling hungry as I had Dessert First before dinner so I ordered their recommended delicious homemade waffles to satisfy my hunger pangs. I'm very sure this Waffle+Ice Cream+Durian Topping (Whole) ($8.50) is the most popular waffle over here as I seen many others having it too and no doubt it have won over countless stomachs including mine.

Even though the crowd was streaming in and filling up the cafe on a weekend dinner, I was impress by their quick service as orders were taken with a slip and payment done at the cashier before the desserts are served by their friendly staffs within minutes. Overall, they have an extensive menu with drinks, beancurd and all-time favourites like Mango Sago and Peanut Paste.

A pity that their dimsum was no longer available at around 8 plus 9pm. So nevermind, as usual desserts first!
Or maybe just desserts.

Durian Snow Ice ($6) is their specialty, along with their beancurd but it was too hot for beancurd that day. Definitely a must-try for durian lovers! As for me, a durian noob (who only eats durian sweets and ice-cream), the taste is also quite manageable if you eat the durian paste thing with the snow ice. A good way to nurse a liking for durians for people haven't tried before.

Mango Sago with Pomelo ($3.90, I think!) is the safe choice, because nothing can honestly go wrong with mango and desserts by my standards. Being the safe choice, I think it reaches my expectations but nothing spectacular. So if you have no idea what to order you can always order this!

Glutinous Rice Balls with Red Bean filling and Longan ($3.90) was a warm dessert, and at first I thought it was going to be scalding but hey no! It's actually very warm, comforting but doesn't burn your tongue. The size of the rice ball is also just nice, it is just perfect for one comfortable mouthful unless your mouth is really really small.

Dessert First offers quite a variety which I appreciate as a consumer.

Pure generous mango colour is beautiful on the serving.
The taste is sweet as it looks.

The place is a bit squeezy though.
It's a self-order counter available and the staffs will serve the desserts once it is ordered. Our seats are so close with the next table and our movement cannot be extreme otherwise we will occupied next table.
That's how dessert shop design is for nowadays.

It was really solid, the puree was really thick and very rich in flavour. The durian was so creamy and sweet. The ice cream went very well with both the waffles and puree. It melted on top and created this even creamier taste. The chocolate sauce added another flavour to the dessert, it come how gave it another layer.

The mango ice dessert is a must try item if you happen to pass by this area. The mango cubes are very fresh and sweet. Lots of creamy coconut cream is topped on this dessert which is really fragrant. This dessert is not too sweet and really refreshing which is quite ideal for the health conscious group. The portion is quite big and tall, which ideally can be shared among two to three friends together. The presentation looks quite nice as well.

I added a little syrup for flavour to minimise on the calories and it is as tasty due to the good quality soy beans used. It is a great and healthy dessert!
