Tonight I am meeting friends for dinner at the Causeway Point Shopping Mall. As one of us just has a tooth extraction, we decide to dine at a place with porridge in the menu. While checking out Crystal Jade, we realize that it offers porridge dishes, as well as, dim sum dishes during dinner meal time. The restaurant is quite big and we are showed to a table at the end of the restaurant. Although the restaurant is packed and crowded, we have out own cozy area. Interestingly there is a button on the table where one can press for service.Steamed Rice Roll with Shredded Chicken (2pcs) 鸡丝滑粉卷(2件)($4.20++)Although it tastes smooth, we feel that the skin of the rice roll is a bit too thick. It does have smooth down the throat texture.Assorted Custard Steamed Bun 三色流沙包 (咸蛋黄,芋头,金粟)($4.90++)The purple colored bun has yam paste filling which is thick and not too sweet. The yellow colored bun has sweet corn filling and tastes sweet and crunchy. The orange colored bun has the smooth and molten salted egg yolk filling inside. Overall the buns are soft and fluffy. Steamed Cake with Brown Sugar 大大件马拉糕 (1件 ) ($3.60++)The steamed cake is very soft and fluffy in taste.Pan-fried Fish Cake with Radish (3 pcs) 萝卜煎鱼饼(3件)($4.00++)Tastes quite crispy but a bit oily.Pan-fried Carrot Cake with Dried Shrimp & Preserved Meat (3pcs) 香煎萝卜糕(3件)($4.30++)The carrot cake tastes not bad but a bit too soft in texture.Lean Meat with Preserved Egg Congee 皮蛋瘦肉粥 ($6.90++)The Cantonese style porridge is very smooth in texture. Tasty and delicious although one can barely find the egg and meat in it.Sliced fish with prawns Congee ($10.80++)Served in a claypot, it has 2 middle sized unpeeled prawns in it. The porridge is smooth and light. With a pot of tea (which is charged at $1++ per person), the total bill comes up to $49.10 for 3 persons. The tea is filled often and food is served quite fast. Pickles and peanut are chargeable but the staff is fine with me that I have refused those. The meal is agreeable with all of us even for the one with tooth extraction.

This is our favourite place. Always come here for dim sum on weekends. Like the Shrimp dumpling, siew mai, xiao long bao, custard bun and the char siew bao best. The xiao long bao's skin is very thin and the juicy minced pork meat is very sweet and chewy. The staff are friendly and service is quite prompt. They serve us generous amount of preserved ginger slices to go along with the xiao long bao too. I also like the char siew bao filling, as it is sweet and not much of "white meat". Price is reasonable, and ambience is condusive for family gathering.

It's been about 4 years since I last stepped into crystal jade. I have a thing for char siew soh or BBQ pork pastry and here at crystal jade they try and spice it up with century egg and ginger.. Which makes me think I'm eating a Xiao long bao 😌 not too thrilled about that.. Couldn't seem to find the normal, plain char siew soh on the dim sum menu either... Argh!I loved the pan fried yam cake with carrot.. I devoured it all... The braised pork was super tasty! We had fried beancurd skin with prawns and also fried brinjal. Luckily I hate hot jasmine tea to wash down all the oil!! Well for 4 adults we spent $78 inclusive old gst and service.. Dim sum these days are so pricey. Thank God for credit card redemption points lol!

Normally people visit here is for lunch or dinner because of their dishes was presentable and fulfilling. Yet, this round I came with my friend, we had tea snacks. Because only two of us, our variety to order was actually quite limited.Dim Sum coming, Crust puff with aromatic Char Siew squeezed at the middle. This was my first time to have it, combined with preserved egg and marinated with honey, it was sweet and juicy. Three of them costed $3.80.Appealing pastry, the flaky dough was crunchy and the egg filling was silky moist. Full of buttery egg blended flavour, I enjoyed both crispy skin and wobbly custard. One plate was at price $3.50.The most traditional Chinese taste among the all, my friend like it the most. The texture was solid and smooth. Dried shrimps and preserved meat were added inside the Carrot Cake, the mixture was fine. Costed me $3.60, the price here all subjected to 10% service charge and 7% GST. Generally, it was a pleasant trip for us.

Whenever I go have dimsum, it is a must to have Ha Gao. This is the Steamed Shrimp Dumpling ($4.80). Nowadays, most ha gao are likely have hardened skin filled with mediocre-tasting shrimp. However, the ones here are different. The skin is soft and the succulent prawn meat is accompanied by juicy seafood gravy. Nice! This is the Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun ($3.50). The dough was a little too thick but the filling was not bad. Compared with other custard filling, this one felt lighter and healthier. Lastly, the Steamed BBQ Pork Bun ($3.30). The filling was a mix of sweetness and a smokey aftertaste. The steamed buns were soft and very easy to tear open. The bbq pork was not too fatty but still juicy. Although the dim sum here will not blow your mind, you will leave this place feeling satisfied.
