Upon hearing the awesomenness of a good bean curd... my friends and i decided to head on down to old airport road hawker centre to visit my long time friend. After a week at work and a place full of chaos... what better way to end with a place at old airport road! Unfortunately, there wasn't any airport there... how unfortunate... was looking forward to see some airline there...Anyways... thats not the point... after ordering my plate of hokkien mee which was pretty ok... i went to order a container of lao ban beancurd... i wanted to know what the hell was so good about this place! Upon eating my reaction went.... "DAAAAAAAMMMMMNNNN" this is really really good stuff... i cant describe the taste except that it was cold... and smooth and slides down your throat soothingly and yea i wanted to have another bowl but i wasnt sure after eating all the crazy crazy crazy stuff that day! Lao Ban bean curd is like a magically combination of awesome smooth tastes in your mouth! So i actually wanna know who is this lao ban we are talking about?? Beancurd frenzy is all round Singapore since last year.I have yet to try out Lao Ban Beancurd till my colleague offered me a bowl in the office. Having good reviews and side talks about the pudding like beancurd, of course, I did not hesitate and try it out. As I put in the first mouthful of Lao Ban Beancurd, it melted in mouth and slide down my throat. Its silkiness and not-so sweet taste attracted my senses and made me gluped down the bowl of beancurd within minutes. With the recent craze in "Tau Huey" (beancurd), stalls are poping up everywhere. Mum went to old airport and bought from Lao Ban not knowing which stalls is good.The beancurd comes in a plastic tub with their brand and logo of a couple printed on it. At first bite, it taste very sweet, I suspect the sugar syrup was on top. It got better towards the bottom of the tub when the syrup sink down. This lao ban beancurd costs $1.50 and the beancurd was smooth. The quality of the beancurd has dropped quite a bit over the years, with sometimes me having to eat less tasty beancurd. It has a slight soybean taste but does not leave a dry feeling on your tongue after eating, also I do not feel sick after one bowl. Long Q forming at this stall on a Sunday afternoon.What so special about this beancurd is that their sugar syrup is added or make together with the beancurd. Not the same as other as other you be aboe to see the sugar syrup on top. The 1st taste in your mouth, you can fdel the soft and silky when itz in your mouth. All this while i have been wondering what's so nice about the beancurd which attracts people to queue so longggggggggg for it! Now i know. It's awesome! *thumbs up!!*It's really silky and tender. I'm a person who don't eat beancurd at all i swear! But this is the beancurd which causes me falling in love with it! I heard from my friend that the had improve on the sweetness, when it first start off it was really sweet, but not it's at a moderate sweetness level. I seriously think it is overpriced for such a tub of chilled beancurd to price at $1.50 for original flavor and $2.00 for almond flavoured. A good friend went to queue and given me a few tubs to bring home. I tried the original as well as the almond flavoured. The almond flavoured one is a definite winner. Always hear my friend saying how tastey & smooth is the 老伴豆花 !never had a chance to go and try it , so today went with my friend . TO TRY IT ! This beancurd stall is one of the popular stalls that always has very long queues during all kinds of the days. The price is quite affordable and the portion is quite reasonable too. The bean curd texture is quite smooth and really silk. The taste is delicious and also not sweet as well. Queue is always super long here. Service is great. For good food, you will need to be patient! Alot of people bought alot!! I'm not excluded! I bought 12 of it. If you love Beancurd, you should try Lao Ban Soya Beancurd at Old Airport Road Food Centre. Lao Ban Soya Beancurd comes in 2 flavours, original and almond. The stall is quite famous. There is always a long queue and they buy in bulk! Beancurd usually is white in colour but Lao Ban Soya Beancurd is light brown in colour.
