As the restaurant was famous for Hainanese Chicken Rice, we of course ordered this dish. The food was served very quickly.

The chicken was soft even though it was frozen. The soy sauce was tasty and was a perfect match with the chicken. The chili sauce was a little salty and spicy, and could be improved. The most impressive food was the chicken rice which was very fragrant with enough moist and onion oil. We will definitely come back for the chicken rice.

The chicken looked like traditionally cooked using steaming method instead of soaking in hot water  like most other stalls nowadays. The skin of the chicken tasted salty and I thought it was salted chicken. The meat was well cooked, moist and sweetness of chicken meat.

The pork chop was rather disappointing. The meat was rather thin and tasteless. But I do like the fried sliced potato in the tomato sauce, it went well with the sweet sourish sauce.

The rice was good with enough moist and onion oil. There was no taste of Chicken fats in the rice.

I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this!

We sought refuge in the air conditioned place at Yet Con Hainanese Chicken Rice Restaurant in the sweltering noon heat. Stepping into the old and no frills restaurant reminded me of classic Hong Kong eateries and for a moment it felt like I was out of Singapore. The place was bustling with people during the lunch hour.

The 'Homemade' Barley ($1.50) was definitely not 'homemade' with its distinct artificial syrup flavoring that bore a strong resemblence to Yeo's barley drink. I was disappointed at the lack of barley pearls in the drink.

Chicken Rice (Half a Chicken- $13, Rice- $0.60 per bowl)

The chicken at Yet Con Restaurant is served as it is, without additional oil or sauce. I thought the chicken was succulent and tasty and loved the fact that it was not overly greasy.

The chicken rice was very fragrant. We thought the chili sauce could be improved though, perhaps a little lime and some garlic could do the trick.

Fish Maw with Chinese Cabbage and Assorted Meat ($20)

The Fish Maw dish was a little on the pricey side but it was well worth it. The dish was well seasoned and bore chunks of seafood, meat and vegetables. The sauce was really good and I particularly enjoyed the fish maw.

Hainanese Pork Chop ($10)

This has got to be the highlight of the day. The pork chop was excellent and everyone at the table loved it. The breaded pork was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, it went very well with the light tomato based sauce.

Good place for a casual quick lunch!

My friend has been raving about this so-called famous chicken rice of all in Singapore. Finally i got to try it during one of the weekends for lunch time. Very crowded and squeezed between tables. And indeed abit run down shop. There isn't any fats so called in the kampong chicken meat, however, the taste was too plain for me. The chicken rice wasn't fragrance as others that I have eaten before. I guessed for healthy sake for chicken rice lovers, this is a good choice.

I found the skin of the Roast Pork tough but I like the taste of the pork drenched in sweet soya sauce. At the bottom of the plate there is crunchy pickled raddish which is a nice appetizer.

When we ordered the Hainanese Speciality Fish Maw, the lady warned us that it cost $20. The dish came with generous serving of pieces of fish maw, prawns, sliced fish fried in chineses cabbage. The gravy was very tasty to go with rice but I find it a bit too salty.

The Egg Fu Rong look very different from other zhi char stall. This version is more wet and look messy. It has prawns and crab meat with vegetables. It does not look presentable but it is yummy except a bit too salty.

Generally I find the dishes is too salty to my liking as it is not healthy if every dish has higher salt content. The prices is more expensive than Chin Chin. I did not try the Hainanese chicken, but judging from the chicken flavoured rice, Yet Con is better. Chin Chin has more choices of zhi char dishes at cheaper prices.

Located along the historic Purvis street, Yet Con's interior takes you back in time to the days when policemen still wore shorts - ceramic tiles on walls with the quintessential wooden frame mirror with Chinese inscriptions and large, albeit dirty wooden tables coupled with dated wooden chairs. Even the signboard fronting the eatery looks like a piece of relic, weathering the sun and rain for countless years. The only modern thing in this place is probably the air conditioning.

Steamboat - The 3 of us ordered the smallest steamboat serving ($8) which came with tiny fishballs, a smattering of pork, squid, prawns , chicken etc and an additional plate of rather unfresh beef ($8). No choices were given for the soup base, which was chicken stock.

Beancurd - I'm inclined to think that most cze char places make this beancurd dish the same way, braised with lots of egg gravy atop. The beancurd wasn't outstanding even though it was placed under the recommended section of the menu. Simple and no frills and something I can easily find at most cze char stalls.

Hainanese Chicken - No trip to a Hainanese eatery is complete without ordering their namesake Hainanese chicken. Yet Con's rendition was void of any oily residue that is known to plague this dish without compromising on the tenderness of the meat. The only gripe I had was that the meat was a wee bit too dry.

The 3 of us chalked up about $43 for this relatively simple and filling meal. If you hanker for a simple, no fuss food at average pricing, then Yet Con would probably work for you.

70 years of history of chicken rice store recommend by older generation. But what attract me was the simple yet comfort steamboat at price of SGD10 per head. That is something cannot be missed. They do not serve many artificial meatball and frozen food but fresh meat and vegetable. The soup are not salty which taste delicious with the chicken rice served. Chicken rice are quite normal and overrated, but price wise are good to dine at a cdb area. environment is acceptable with aircon.

Had chicken rice with my Auntie last week at Yet Con Hainanese Chicken Rice. It was quite a nice place selling Hainanese chicken rice. The chicken was really tender and nicely steamed to make it a little chewy, very appetizing. The rice itself was also very tasty! Not too salty. Their chilli was good too! Just makes you want to consume it non stop!

Yet Con is a rather ancient chicken rice eatery near bugis. It offers steamboat and zichar types of food like fish, pork, chicken dishes. But in my opinion, their nicest dish is their chicken rice. I wouldn't promote their steamboat though. The variety of ingredients for their steamboat was pretty limited, the soup was tasty but had alot of MSG inside (a fact we found out when we all went home very thirsty). The prawns weren't fresh either.

A traditional place for chicken rice. The staffs have a strong canto accent. A little difficult to communicate i find. Their chicken rice was fantastic. It is really fragrant, soft and delicious! I can easily have 2 bowls! The chicken are juicy and tender. Pork was a little burnt on the other hand. We also had their milk tea. Too sweet i find but still alright. All in all, i like it!

Who says you have to be in Hainan Island to try their chicken rice when you have one such stall in Bugis...

Came all the way to Bugis for the chicken rice! I guess they use younger birds because the meat is so tender. Mmm. It also absorbs the dip really well. Also, the soup was so flavoursome! Another must try dish is the foo young egg or Chinese omelette. YUMMY. It’s moist and the chef is really generous with the ingredients. It has so many stuff – eggs, vegetables, meat and seafood all mashed up together. TASTY.

Ironically I prefer their non-steamboat stuff to the steamboat. But still it’s a nice cozy place with an old-fashioned feel to it. Come to Yet Con if you’re feeling nostalgic!
