Chong Qing Grilled Fish Pork Ribs with Fermented Beans

Named after the Chongqing region of Southwest China, Chong Qing Grilled Fish specialises in Chinese Sichuan / Szechuan cuisine, in particular, a charcoal grilled fish served in a spicy mala gravy, which is their signature dish. Founded in April 2010, Chong Qing Grilled Fish has become a popular late-night haunt for traditional Chinese Sichuan / Szechuan food.Ambience at Chong Qing Grilled Fish is brightly lit and clean, though the sturdy dark wooden furniture is closely packed to maximise seating. As a result, the place is noisy and bustling, especially if guests start speaking really loudly. Ventilation is average, with only a faint smell of cooking that sticks to your clothing. There's minimal decor, the place isn't designed for aesthetics, and is rather functional in form. At least there's pretty paintings on the walls, of auspicious koi fish.Service at Chong Qing Grilled Fish is pretty good. While staff mostly converse in Chinese Mandarin, at least they are friendly, courteous, and efficient. However, I have seen the senior staff conversing with non-Chinese diners / tourists in fluent English. The menu has English descriptions, and pointing at dishes works too. I note that staff are quick to seat diners and take orders, as well as clear empty / dirty tables or plates. Am actually rather surprised that the service is above average.Food at Chong Qing Grilled Fish consists mainly of traditional Chinese Sichuan / Szechuan cuisine. The menu is small but with good variety, and the majority of food is naturally savoury, salty, and spicy. Portions are medium large, plated for sharing, and communal dining is highly encouraged. Prices are reasonable for individual dishes, but expensive for add-on options, budget about SGD $27 per person for a decent meal here. The Szechuan Mouth Watering Chicken (SGD $6.80) is a popular Sichuan appetizer, featuring chilled poached chicken in a spicy, oily gravy. This classic Chinese dish has tender, succulent chicken meat that is clean tasting, fresh, and sweet, while the gravy; fragrant with garlic, chili, and peppercorn; has a slow, lingering burn. Cool down with the chilled, crunchy slices of cucumber plated beneath! Highly recommended! The Grilled Seabass In Spicy Fragrant Broth, With Enoki Mushroom, Frozen Beancurd (SGD $45.60) is the signature dish here. The fresh, meaty, seabass fish with sweet, succulent white meat has been charcoal grilled, making the skin savoury salty, with a hint of smoky flavour. It's then served in a oily, spicy mala gravy, along with your choice of optional add-on ingredients. I got this with enoki mushroom and frozen beancurd, which soaks up the gravy beautifully.Full Chong Qing Grilled Fish review: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2016/01/chong-qing-grilled-fish.html 繼續閱讀

I was introduced to this restaurant by my boyfriend when he ordered a takeaway of their infamous grilled fish. I am always cautious towards 麻辣 or 香辣 stuff as there are not many good ones around. But that night, I was hooked! He had ordered the 金目鲈-(a fresh water fish) with the 香辣 base at medium level of spiciness. I would say that dish woke me up with it fragrant spices and being a fan of spicy food, i could not stop my self from savouring the choking yet invigorating base! For me, i prefer "sea" fishes to freshwater fishes as i dislike the "muddy" taste that lingers but with the way they make the base, you would barely notice the taste. Then, the week after, my bf and I ate in the restaurant. This time we ordered red snapper with the 麻辣base at medium spiciness. It did not disappoint at all, it was just as good as the first time we tried! The base is so numbing this time but oh-so-good! Just thinking of it makes me drool! Well, on the 14th July 2013, we visited the restaurant again. This time we order the 红曹 with香辣base at medium spiciness, I don't know if I have grown a tolerance to the medium spiciness or I have perhaps chose a wrong combination of base or level of spiciness, it was not as impressive as the 1st and 2nd taste. But anyway, its still a place i absolutely love and will return!Sadly, I did not take any pictures of the dishes as I was too eager to dig into the dish!So far, I have not tried the other dishes as my main goal visiting this restaurant was its grilled fish. There are only a few crew working in the restaurant and so unless there aren't too many people around, you may need some time during ordering. Other than that, I am in love with the restaurant! 繼續閱讀

During cny , one regular size grilled fish is $33 , and I get two $8 voucher last time. Now they charge one regular grilled fish only $28 , and we used the voucher with minimum spend of 50 .Side dishes I will recommend golden mushroom , lotus and potato . The dessert mango sago only 2.80 !!! One regular size fish and three to four side dishes are enough for two , even both of us have big stomach I will go back again again !!! 繼續閱讀

The highlight of the meal was the grilled fish. We had 1 trays of 红曹 Golden Snapper- (中辣). The grilled fishes we have had are usually served on banana leaves, are dry and topped off with a layer of sambal chili. However, in Chong Qing Grilled Fish, the fishes are first grilled, then immersed in a soup-like gravy of your choice, and finally served in a metal tray kept warmed by a small flame. Though the fish was immersed in pretty oily gravy, the grilled barbequed flavor was still retained. Gravy wise, the 麻辣味 was the most spicy and left most of us sniffing and tearing. The 香辣味 was slightly less spicy but had the fragrance of chinese spices and wine. Besides the main grilled fish, we added Enoki mushrooms, fried potato slices and thick vermicelli. The metal tray was somewhat like a steamboat, with the hot gravy cooking the Enoki mushrooms and thick vermicelli. At the same time, the additional ingredients soaked up the gravy and tasted great! The only downside of the signature grilled fish was that it could get a tad too oily. And because of the richness of every dish, Chong Qing Grilled Fish is not a place which one would frequent that often. It’s more of a once in a while indulgence. 繼續閱讀

Randomly went to this restaurant at China Town to try out the spicy grilled fish and i love it. It comes with your choice of fish and you can add on side dishes as well. The fish is very fresh and delicious. The side dishes we added in is a lot and nice too. You can choose the level of spiciness, but my advice is to start out with mild first, the one we tried is mild and it already so spicy and we need to keep on drinking water. The crab here also very nice i like the crab with fried corn indeed very nice and cheap as well 繼續閱讀
