The tau sar piah at this shop is the BEST!! Always freshly baked and hot when you buy it. Buttery fragrant crust and both the salted and sweet versions are good. Guarantee chop and you won't regret it.It even taste good when it turns cold. Always a happy customer whenever i am here!

As you bite in, you feel like you are biting into a char Siew soh! It is so flaky yet crispy! And inside is the sweet paste! And it is not too sweet that would make you feel heaty either! It is perfect! I will need to get my hands on another dozen of these sweet treat! Anyone young or old would love these!

Full Loong Fatt Eating House & Confectionery review here: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2014/01/loong-fatt-eating-house-confectionery.html

Since 1948, crowds have been flocking to Loong Fatt Eating House & Confectionery for only one thing, the traditional Teochew Chinese biscuit known as Tau Sar Piah, or Bean Paste Biscuit. Handmade daily from scratch, and only available in 2 flavours, salty or sweet, Loong Fatt Eating House & Confectionery has become so famous that their location along Balestier Road has become synonymous with excellent Tau Sar Piah.

Stepping into Loong Fatt Eating House & Confectionery is almost like a trip back in time, as the coffeeshop looks almost like it did back in the 80s. Modern ovens aside, the Tau Sar Piah / Bean Paste Biscuit are constantly hand made throughout the day, and part of the appeal is watching them make it as you queue. And yes, the average queue time is about 20 - 40 minutes.

Don't expect a high level of service, as orders are placed at the counter, and the staff pack it for you. There is a trademark grumpy auntie who is constantly grumpy... Loong Fatt Eating House & Confectionery just wouldn't be the same without her!

While Loong Fatt Eating House & Confectionery does sell other confectionery, the star is still their Tau Sar Piah. Prices have remained fairly cheap throughout the years, with each Tau Sar Piah / Bean Paste Biscuit costing a mere SGD $0.60. Loong Fatt Eating House & Confectionery opening hours are from 8am till 4.30pm, Mondays through Saturdays, and closed on Sundays.

A good quality butter used in making the crust results in it being slightly oily, but crisp and savoury without being too flaky. The sweet or salty bean paste filling is thick, generous, and non-crumbly. Best eaten when hot, but even after a few days of refrigeration, they still taste good, even if eaten cold or reheated, a sure sign of quality.

It feels like I've been crazy over Tau Sar Piah lately and I want to hunt for the best one in Singapore! The tau sar piahs here are shaped differently from the usual ones and I like that the filling is very thick. However, the taste is not the usual salty ones I tried elsewhere and there is not much difference between the sweet and salty. I guess the main highlight lies in the crust. It is so crispy!! Probably the most crispy one I tried so far! ;)

The staffs are not really that friendly here... and is definitely the yummy tau sar piahs that make me wants to come back for more.

There are only two flavours available for these tau sar piahs: sweet or salty. I used to prefer the salty ones, but now I love them both! They really taste pretty alike actually. Thick on the tau sar filling, not the dark black ones but the white ones, almost akin to lotus paste, covered in a buttery flaky pastry.Sesame seeds indicate that it's the sweet tau sar piah. I bought a box of ten, which can last no longer than two weeks.

I have taste it for number of times after watching Old Places because my dad's office is somehow near there. Though I did not went to the shop personally but I heard from my dad that it is actually a coffeeshop that sells not just their famous tau sar piah but also other pastries.

Will go personally there one day for some nostalgia feel.

Yes, this is my favourite TSP in town! Normally, I will only get the salty ones as I feel that the sweet ones are a bit too sweet for my liking. Look at those pastry! They are calling out to you, readers! Have a try and understand why I am so excited!

So i've grown up eating this.

I kid you not.

I walk into the kitchen these days just to talk to the lady with black mod glam plastic glasses.

She's a mainstay here.

And well, she can vouch for me. I used to rush down after school back in secondary school just to grab some with a cup of hot milo before they closed on a weekday.

I always ask for the salty ones. Although some days i can't decide and ask for a box of ten mixed.

The pastry shell is always so buttery and flaky it melts in your mouth.

And the bean paste is just the type that I like.

Call me a food snob. But THIS is the only kind of tau sar piah I like.

Tucked along one of the shophouses along balestier road is a traditional bakery producing really good tau sar piah. For just 60 cents each, you can buy several of this yummy pastry that is almost as big as my palm. You can choose between 2 flavours: sweet and salty, but both versions come with the same flaky crumbly buttery pastry crust filled with nice sticky filling. Highly recommended!

Tau Sar Piah 豆沙饼 comes in either sweet or salty versions.

These Tau Sar Piah 豆沙饼 (salty) cost just $0.60 each.

The pastry on the outside was extremely crispy and flaky (even after 2 days). With a buttery fragrant, it was such a joy just enjoying the crust. The salty filling complemented well with the crust as a whole. It was just nice for me, not too salty. So delicious.

They are two flavors available which is either “Sweet or Salty”. The sweet tau sar piah is marked by the sprinkling of sesame seeds on its crust and you might notice that the shape is flatter than the usual ones sell in other stalls. At first when we taste the Tau Sar Piah we are rather confused by the taste as it seems to be the same, both have that bit of salty taste. But when you have another bite on it, you will get the differences of one is much saltier than the other.

Having my Loong Fatt tau sar piah with a cup of hot green tea was a wonderful experience. Come down to Balestier and try it for yourself.
