Lately I had been on an adventure to find good Kaya Toasts in Singapore, so I thought it would be good for me to give the Butter Kaya Toast from Ah Dong Teh House a try. Its pretty decent, and ranks up pretty near or even better than Ya Kun. The toast was thick, and Kaya was fresh. Thick slabs of butter was sandwiched in the middle, which makes this simple breakfast treat somewhat sinful. Its somewhat pricey though, given that its $3.90++ ala-carte, and adding coffee and eggs would set you back another $2 more.
Sheng Mian

My dining partner settled for the Sheng Mian ($12.90++). Crispy fried egg noodles served in a thick gravy that was savoury with loads of egg inside, the portion was really generous. Their variant seemed a tad light; something that I liked though my dining partner would have preferred some dark sauce added for a deeper flavour. Most of the seafood were also fresh as well. Not really the best we have tried, but better than average at the very least.
Cheezy Pork Cutlet

I decided to go on the western menu though, since the Cheezy Pork Cutlet ($14.90++) reminded me of Chicken Corden Bleu. Marinated in Cajun spices, it’s savoury flavour and crispy fried batter seemed to remind me of a certain brand of Fried Chicken. Cut open the tender pork cutlet, and the melted cheese oozes out of the cutlet. Its a pity how the spectacular pork cutlet got served with pretty pedestrian fries and salad at the side, which dragged down the quality of the dish a fair bit.

We also ordered Kopi ($3.00++), and its pretty decent as well, with sweetness from the evaporated milk which sweetened the coffee adequately. Makes a good couple with the Kaya Butter Toast!

Mango Ice Blend ($5.90). Love this drink as it has my favorite mango in it, and the presentation look so interesting! Stirred it well and the sweetness is just nice, in mix with the soda.
Chicken Chop Noodle ($8.90), with a stalk of vegetable and sunny side up. I had wanted the Curry Chicken Noodle, but it was out-of-stock, thus I decided on this in a rush to order. It was pretty good, with the strong seasonings on the "maggie mee". This can easily be prepared at home, but saved me the hassle to get the chicken chop done up!
Mushroom Cream Pasta ($9.90). Had expected more mushroom than what was served, but overall still an acceptable dish. Although a little over-cheesy, pasta is still springy!
Sea Platter ($15.90), consisting of a pair of prawns, fillet, calamari, fries and coleslaw. Quite a big yummy serving, but menu stated good for one pax! I expected butter rice to be served, but turned out otherwise. Rice aside, the meat is good.

Anything claypot usually works well for me, likewise the curry set. Though the rice was plain with fried shallots sprinkled on top, the curry gravy made up for it. The potatoes feel a little old though, i think the yactually fried it before hand or something coz i could taste a skin layer. The potatos could have been better. At >$10 i was hoping for more actually (i could eat 2 bowls at queensway at the price
). But i get the nice cha chan ting ambiance...hope their food quality

Grilled chicken chop

Spoiled for choice in this restaurant, glad they increase so much varieties of food and their marketing coupons to improve business, overall their food is good...we been going back even for breakfast....they always give complimentary sides, peanuts, prawn crackers, love their small ways of appreciating customers, at least they think of ways to improve business despite competition, staff very friendly too. Overall all their food is very nice, you can feel the chef's effort in cooking the nice food, thumbs up..keep it up. : ) thanks for the coupons they give to customers to...very appreciative, a good eat in punggol district indeed. their food suitable for breakfast, lunch and dinner, maybe they can think of all-day western breakfast, more choices , will be better.

Fried rice taste nice just like the usual fried rice but its not too spicy. There are a lot of ingredients like prawns, sotong and ikan bills. The environment is very nice. Windy and cozy. It looks new maybe because of the maintenance they have. The coke was serve with a slice of lemon. Overall rating was good, service wise, the staffs are friendly and the food is nice.

The interior is pretty simple, high ceiling, counter based ordering for takeaway customer and table ordering for dine in. a few lcd tvs lined up above the counter, much alike fast food restaurants. Staff are very lively though and repeats that if you need anything just raise your hand, they do not irritate diners by waiting at the side, I like that. The waitress couldn't tell me what strawberry mash was and it turned out to be strawberry syrup added to fizz drinks and sour plum added. It was pretty nice actually but a tad too expensive IMO. i was recommended to try the special seafood soup and xue ge promotion. It turned out to be a lot like ci char stall seafood soup but the soup was nice and sweet though, ingredients you get fish ball, some sotong, prawns and lean meat. The prawn tasted a bit "un-fresh" though which I feedback to the staff, they wanted to change a new bowl for me actually but I did not want to, its good they took the feedback positively. The xue ge was a little disappointing though, its probably mock hashima and not the real stuff, tastes more like normal cheng teng actually. The carrot cake had luncheon meat in it and also pork floss and some dried shrimps i think, quite a nice eat but i hope it can be less oily. The traditional set is very average and the milk tea did not delight with the cup a little dirty on the edges.

Certainly hope this place can take the review nicely and up its standard, competition is tough there especially with the prata joint pitstop just next door giving it a run for his money. Also one more thing the staff should note is to offer condiments or suitable utensils based on clients order. I had to ask for side plates and condiments on my own.

We had dinner at Ah Dong cafe on 7 Jun 2013. Order the Hor fun and Seafood Pasta. Considering the price and the portion, its definitely value for money. Taste wise is acceptable. I will visit the resturant again to try other food on the menu. To add on, the staff are friendly and helpful. They always carry a smile on their faces. This makes me feel very welcomed. But 1 thing to note, they seem to take quite long to return the change for the bill.

For main dish I ordered the 餐蛋面 dry $6.90++. It tasted alright, basically is instant noodles with soy sauce and sesame oil plus 3 slices of luncheon meat, a sunny side up egg and some vege...nothing special.

The service here is ok, their staffs are mostly teenagers, they are abit careless and drops bowls and plates pretty often (around 3 times during our 1hr dining time)...hubby and I got splashed with chilli/curry sauce on our feets cos the ah boy dropped the plates near our table. He did apologised and provided plenty of serviettes for us to clean up.

Verdict - visit once in a while is ok.

Carrot cake in XO sauce
Hm… don’t know how to explain. XO sauce tasted like the chilli I had in the Braised Duck rice in the morning. No carrot cake taste and there’s pieces of luncheon meat (which I don’t mind, maybe it’s their signature style).
- $7.90

Mac & Cheese
Perhaps the smell is too strong for me. Not the usual Mac & Cheese I’ve eaten. Personally, I’d prefer KFC’s Cheese fries to this dish.
- $7.90

Fish ‘N’ Cheez
We were both kinda turn off with the presentation. I guess couldn’t ask for too much but even Hungry Jack in Punggol Plaza’s foodcourt has better presentation. The image above shows how it looks like when it landed on our table, we did not touch it. The Cheese looks lumpy and we couldn’t figure out what’s the stain at the side of the plate.
- $10.90

Seafood Marinara
He he he…I’ve eaten worst, so this is alright. But it does taste a bit like his parent’s version, where they used those ready made pasta sauce. Erm…seafood is fresh (fish, squids, prawns) and they are definitely not stingy with the quantity.
- $13.90
