Awfully Chocolate

My friend and I shared a Cold Poached Chocolate with Kahlua cream ($6.50 each), and while we both enjoyed it, we felt that the chocolate base was a tad too decadent for our palates. A liquid chocolate mix is poured into molds on a cold marble slab and left to solidify to form a circular base, with a texture akin to a rich chocolate mousse. I have always eaten chocolate cakes plain - spongy ones, fudgy ones but just wasn't sure why I always hesitated at the thought of banana chocolate cakes.. I guess banana was at the rock bottom of the list when it comes to fruits!I had to go for a gathering and was driving along Katong and decided to drop by Awfully Chocolate to buy a cake. The Chocolate Banana cake came highly recommended and I thought since I have been buying plain chocolate fudge cakes for the longest time, will just buy something different for a change. Dessert time came and I took a bite into the tiny piece which I requested and realised the Chocolate Banana cake wasn't as sweet as the All Chocolate version and the banana actually blends in well with the chocolate. i love the cakes at awfully chocolate! The chocolate banana cake is a MUST TRY! The chocolate is so rich and creamy, eaten together with the generous portion of banana. The cake is very soft and spongy. One mouth of this can just simply send you to heaven!The choc rum and cherry cake is also very awesome, I love the pitted cherries together with the rum, an ideal combination!Their rich chocolate cupcakes are also really delicious. Awfully Chocolate at 131 East Coast Road now encompasses two other outlets: Moochi Bakes, and JooJoo, which serve baked goods and japanese-asian cuisine respectively. All under the Awfully Chocolate company, they share the same space, allowing you to eat items from all three shops! Just like kopitiam, but ALOT more comfortable and nicer The deco of the shop is separated into 3 distinct zones to complement the 3 cuisine styles, yet they are connected in an open space, so you can choose where to sit depending on your mood and the occasion. The awfully chocolate space looks the cutest and more comfortable, while the joojoo side has wooden and metal chairs - more useful and functional for eating compared to the cushioned sofa seats. We ordered food from Joojoo and Awfully chocolate. I had a chasiu egg and rice, while he ordered a chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream. The chasiu egg and rice was good, but not exactly what I expected the chasiu is the japanese kind, so it was simplier, with less food colouring, and still tasted full and nice, well-roasted. The rice was nice an flavourful and very moist, just the way I liked it. The cake was good too, and it worked well together with the chocolate ice cream. However, you might ant to check on pricing before you order, as they charge you by weight, and there's no way you can tell the weight of the cake unless you ask. Felt a little cheated there, but the cake was good enough to let us not make a fuss Their cafe latte was just nice too, rich and flavourful What really impressed me was the prompt welcome that we got. Upon reaching, we were received almost immediately by a really nice lady (who seemed like the boss) who introduced us to the food an identified the most recommended dishes to us. She also pointed out the different zones and highlighted the cuisines available. She made us feel really welcomed and at home Nice reception there The rest of the staff were largely alright, although billing was a little problematic, with the check coming slowly and with a minor error. All in all, a nice experience, and I'm not against the idea of coming back, but I'll bring an emptier stomach to eat the things i smelled that day (oh the smells were wondrous), and come on a day when nothing would test my patience. I'm simply a sucker for chocolate and ice-cream and when I get the two together, I feel sinful and light-headed. That's exactly how I felt when I ate the yummy combination of ice-cream and the house's famous chocolate cake. I think the latter must be the most chocolatey cake I've ever eaten.I could never miss out my white chocolate and indeed, I ordered this white chocolate cake with caramel (2 of my favourites!)
