This dish prepared and cooked in the kitchen before serving so we
don’t have to smell like BBQ after the meal.

These sliced of marinated pork belly fire grilled creating a flavourful spicy fiery stir fry dish goes well with the generous serving of fresh lettuces.

These pork slices smothered in spicy, sweet sauce and fire grilled smokiness are just irresistible. The pork are well marinated that you don’t require additional chilli sauce to go along with the dish.

At the end of the meal, we received a complimentary drink “Omija”. Also known as five flavour berry tea. Believed to have medicinal values. This Omija served in a small bowl with crushed ice.

This tea has distinctive five taste. Sour taste to protect the liver while the sweetness to improve the function of the spleen and stomach. Spicy or pungent to protect the lung while the bitter taste strengthen the heart and the salty taste to protect the kidney and bladder.

A reasonable size plate of grilled pork belly slices and six side dishes are sufficient enough for a hearty lunch meal.

Further more, the waiting staff are very helpful and courteous.

Thinly sliced shinning meats arrived, it was marinated before serving yet in natural colour. Mansinjang Samgyupsal was $24.00 or 200 grams, pinky tenderized pork belly was seasoned with peppery flakes. Another signature meat, Woo Samgyup was priced at $28.00 every 200 grams.

Equipped with black Exhaust Tubes, there was no smoky and smelly BBQ scent anymore after walking out from the restaurant. What a thoughtful design, it actually looked classy modern too. Impressive service, staff barbecued the meat for us. You may choose to help yourself also. Quite a pleasant experience overall, I might come back again.

We're supposed to roll out the meat and let it cook. The bone was really hard and obviously inedible but I feel like I was having the real deal! Being able to see the bone part. This is really really good and I also like the presentation of the raw lettuce and carrots that were giving so that we can wrap the meat in the vegetable and eat!

This is essentially a traditional Korean soybean paste stew with beef and vegetables. It is cooked at tableside where the waiter would stir it around this pot and served it after it's done.
I'm glad I had the guts to try this dish as when paired with rice, it's really good! You have to mix it like you're eating bibimbap! The soy paste is really fragrant and it wasn't that spicy (or at least i could still take it!)
I've yet to try the BBQ beef that other patrons around me are always ordering as I couldn't find a right time to drag my peers to endure the BBQ smell after dining.

We ordered the Sliced Pork Belly that came with some bean paste sauces. The servers will usually bbq your meat for you so you don't have to worry about not knowing when the meat is ready to be consumed. I think Koreans eat this by wrapping the meat with a lettuce leaf and smearing the meat with some bean paste. Although it may seem like a weird concoction to some, the overall flavour is actually really nice. The lettuce leaf gave the meat a refreshing and crispy touch while the pork belly was very soft and tender. I particularly liked the bean paste which made the flavour even richer.

We also had the Chadol Duenjang Jjigae. It is something like bibimbap, essentially traditional soybean paste stew with beef and vegetables. Add the stew to your bowl of rice, pour in whichever pastes you like, stir and mix it till you get an equal consistency and there you have it! A bibimbap. The myriad of flavours burst in your mouth with the vegetables adding a crunch to each bite.

The quality of the food served made up for the lack of choices in the menu. However, prices are considered rather steep and with the addition GST and service charge, expect a bump in your total bill.

Succulent porked belly, comes in 2 versions - Crissy and non crispy, specially done up by the chef. Yums! Roll up the meat with the lecture given, add some kimchi, shredded leeks and dab some sauce to your preferred taste . It is believed that by having the wrap eaten up in one mouth will actually give one good fortune!

Born-Ga Bulogogi - S$45.00
The best recommended dish on the menu by Chef Piak. Comes with beef brisket marinate with the in house Born-Ga's special sauce and boiled with vegetables (mushrooms, onions, enoki mushrooms), vermicelli and served like a korean way. If you like something sweet in the soup, this would probably be one of the better choices.

Service
Excellent service from the guy who served us throughout. He was probably the team lead for the service section as the others were seen following instruction. Well-versed with the product knowledge, he explained the way he cooks and given us choices on how our food should be eaten and served. Alot of communication between us. Alot of "why" and "how" questions were thrown to him when he was serving our table, instead of getting frustrated by our "never-ending" questions, he had actually responded to us every detail in a friendly way. His sharing and service provided is definitely the best I seen so far from a generic restaurant like this. Thumbs up!

Ambience
In the restaurant, every table is equipped with vacuum to suck away the oil mist and grease from the restaurant. Apart from that, the environment is quite hot due to the nature of business. I was told that usually after a rain, customers will prefer the seats outside as the place is rather windy and cooling.

Price
A total damage of S$134.15 for 3 pax including 10% service charge and 7% GST. There are no preferred cards. Pricing was quite reasonable taking into consideration of its service and environment. However the wait was horrendous.

Recommendations / Tips
No reservations are considered. Just wait patiently - I had an hour wait before getting my seats.

It has been half a year since our last visit to Bornga and we decided to beat the Monday blues with a leisurely hearty lunch. The restaurant was almost full on Monday when it's usually crowded. Must be the school holidays that has drawn the crowds. Three groups of Korean families dining here is proof that the food here is authentic since native Koreans have discerning palates and demand high quality.

Bornga has the most generous portions of ssamcheban (mixed salad leaves for wrapping the BBQ meats) and ban chan (side dishes) among all Korean restaurants in Singapore. Prices for the BBQ items have gone up significantly. Samgyupsal or sliced pork belly which used to cost $18 per platter when we visited in end 2012 now costs $22. The signature dish of sliced beef brisket marinted with fruit juice which used to cost $22 per platter now costs $28. Quality of the food continues to be excellent. However service standards have dropped. Due to the lunch crowd? During our last visit, a waitress did the grilling at our table but this time around, the girl just put the plates of meats on the table leaving us to do our own cooking. Empty cups were topped up only on request this time. We would be quite happy with our meal if this had bern our first visit to Bornga. However, we are less ecstatic this visit due to the higher prices and drop in service quality.

Bornga is a famous Korean BBQ Restaurant chain by renowned celebrity Chef Jong Won Paik. This is the 1st time it opened in Singapore and the 13th Restaurant outside Korea.

We had high expectation of the food. We were directed to a table for 2 by the glass wall with a view looking outside the Restaurant. The table had a gas stove built into it. Looking at the menu, we realized they served mainly beef items. This limit my choice of food which I could order as I do not take beef. I am actually a fan of Korean BBQ and was disappointed that I could only order the Belly Pork and they do not have chicken.

They also required us to order 2 portions of Belly Pork. Since there is only 2 of us, we could only order 1 other dish which is seafood pancake.

Ssamcheban (Vegetables Wrap)
Different vegetables leaves were served on a long tray and looked pretty impressive. See photo below :

Sides Dishes.
As most Korean place, we were served with free sides. We were given 4 sides dishes such as Shredded Leeks, a cold Kimchi Soup, Radish Kimchi & Lettuces Salad. It is mostly vegetables which I am not a fan.
I only like the spicy Radish Kimchi which was shredded in thin slice and has a spicy kick. I would prefer the usual stewed potatoes, anchovy, braised egg which is served at other Korean place.

After grilling one portion of the pork belly, they actually change the grilling metal plate and put a new grilling plate ready for the next session of grilling. They remembered to come back and help us grilled the remaining pork belly. Service was good as they actually attend to the grilling. My pork turn out nicely grilled and was not burnt. The only problem was I found the pork bland in taste by itself as it was only seasoned lightly with salt. You have to dipped it in the accompanying sauces. We were given sesame oil with salt, WooSamGyup & raw garlic.

Our clothes did not smell after the meal as there were hardly any smoke during grilling.

Our Seafood Pancake look like small version of the a Pizza has it is served in a Pizza Pan. I found the pizza soft on the inside with lots of seafood and not crispy on the outside. I found this a bit bland too and had to dipped into the Korean sauce for extra taste. For people who do not take salt or have light taste buds than this may suit you.

A
t the end of the meal we were served with this icy cold Omija Tea 오미자 차 (Schisandra Berry Tea). This is my favourite among the items I had taken in this Restaurant. It is a cordial drink make from berries. It has a refreshing, not too sour taste which wake up the taste buds and is nice end to the meal. I wish I know where I can buy this drink.

Prices are quite high as the total bill came to $70 for 2 paxs. It will be too expensive for regular lunch for people working in the area. If you are fan of Beef, and prefer light taste, than this maybe a place for you. This place is not for me as a I love Korean BBQ but do not eat beef, so there is not much choice of BBQ meat for me and I do not like the all Vegetarian sides dishes which I was served.

Those who have tried BORNGA would be pleased to know that the signature favourite, Woo Samgyup, is included in the menu. What makes these thinly-sliced beef so special is its secret marinade and unique dressing which retains the meat’s colour yet enhances its traditional ‘bulgogi’ taste. For maximum taste, go and try it with the Woo Samgyup sauce which is especially imported from Korea. Another popular dish worth ordering at BORNGA is the Chadol Duenjang Jjigae, a Korean beef stew which is made with rich soybean paste.

The newly opened Korean BBQ Restaurant located at the suburban mall Star Vista is well worth a detour from the city centre. The cheerful but unobtrusive crew and chic, unpretentious ambience makes it a nice place for a cosy meal with family and friends. We had a very enjoyable, hearty and wholesome meal at Bornga. We ordered the restaurant's signature dish WooSamGyeop (S$22++) - thinly sliced beef brisket that was lightly marinated and grilled to perfection at our table by a Chinese lady. Eat it on its own the savour the juices from the meat or dip it in the spicy tangy dipping sauce and wrap it with the fresh and crunchy lettuce leaves. The SamGyeopSal or pork belly (S$18++) was very tasty too without any greasy aftertaste. What impressed my dining companions and me was the freshness and quality of Bornga's ingredients, and the generous complimentary portions of their SsamCheBan - the long platter of assorted lettuce and vegetables supplied with the BBQ and their BanChan or side dishes (chilled kimchi soup, marinated shredded scallions and leeks, radish kimchi, blanched spinach and potato salad). The Bornga Ngyeongmyeon or chilled glass noodles(S$15++) and Haemul Pajeon or seafood pancake (S$22++) complemented the grilled meats without overwhelming our palates. Kimchi Jigae (S$15++) stew and Bibimbap (S$15++) were good but not outstanding; we ordered too much food for four of us; we had enough food to feed six adults with ample appetites. A thoughtful touch was the bowl of iced omija served to each diner at the end of our meal. The tea is brewed from dried berries indigenious to Korea and tastes like hawthorn. Its clean and refreshing taste was just what we needed after a hearty and satisfying meal that was very easy on the pocket too. The menu, though limited, would have been complete if Bornga adds BBQ chicken to its menu, to cater to diners who avoid red meat.
