The smoked salmon bagel, mixed with cream cheese, capers and red onions came together with a side salad. Overall, the ambience is nice, service is good and the food are reasonably priced!

Next, we had the Full Monty - $22

Full Monty is your typical kind of big breakfast with everything you can think for a western breakfast (thick toast, baked beans, poached eggs, potato etc). Great for the big eaters who cant decide what they want. To add on, both juice and tea were served, which was just nice for us to share. Heehee

The other thing that irked me was the service. My friends and I had brunch at 3 plus in the afternoon. So that means that there were only 2 other tables filled hence the place was pretty empty. The waiter that served us gave a black face while serving. Not sure why when it was pretty slow paced at that timing.

I had the green eggs and ham. The eggs are scrambled with basil pesto and they added cheese and ham over bread with some potatoes by the side. The potatoes are abysmal. Overcooked and charred. They were so tough to eat. The eggs were okay...nothing special and certainly not something that I would queue up for.

This is the french toast with bananas & strawberries. Nothing special. If you like french toast with a super crunchy crust, this would be your thing. Once again, nothing too special.

As you can tell, I don't fancy this spot. There are definitely other places where you get much better food. Give this a miss.

The restaurant was rather small too. My friends ordered some baked eggs with hams which cost around $14.30++ and we also ordered an apple crumble with ice cream topping to share ($8).

We waited for 30-35mins before our food came. With much anticipation comes disappointment. The baked eggs were so salty and the potatoes tasted so normal. Although the price is slightly lower than other places, the food didn't taste good. We wondered why so many people came to try and we thought perhaps its located at a prime spot with all the private residential surrounding it.

The ice cream tasted good. However the apple slices tasted so sour! Swensen's apple crumble tasted even better than theirs. Overall, we will not visit the place again. There are better brunch places out there.

Ok lets start with the garden salad. I was surprised by the yumminess of this simple green salad and i think the key ingredient that made it great was the sauce. I cant really put a finger to what it contained but it was not heavy and had a zesty freshness in it. A little bit of plum/tamarind mayb?

Green eggs was a simple scrambled egg with herbs and basil. Sadly, it was a little disappointing. The white stuff on top was cheese, which was the only thing that gave it some flavour. I think i will probably go back to eating my monte cristo next time. =P

I love this place so much that i went back twice in a month. =) Look out for my second review after this.

Angmokia had the croque monsieur which is a really good one with strong cheese(by the singaporean definition) and u really feel full by eating this. =) I had the monte cristo which is a bit like french toast but with no cheese and i love how they accomodate to me changing my fries to salad both times i was there. And although its a small place, i assure you the customer service is superb with attention to details and angmokia really lose how they put bottles of water on our table so that we do not need to keep asking for water. I really think every restaurant shld do that to save time for both their staff and customer!

Anyway, everyone ordered breakfast-y item - scrambled eggs, toast, coffee. I tried the option of chorizo sausage instead of bacon and it was quite dry. The toast was also too heavily buttered for my taste (you can see it in the pic). Other than that, breakfast was fine and I liked the coffee, but nothing was *wow* -- I can cook scrambled eggs just as good as these at home.

That said, the dinner menu (some items were written on a blackboard) looked more interesting and it probably wouldn't be so busy then! I'd give Epicurious another try.

Dropped by Epicurious, one of the lesser known outfits dotting Roberton Quay, for a late dinner. Interestingly, the word epicurious stems from the words epicure, which is used to describe someone with refined taste, especially in food and wine and curious.

Occupying just a small unit along the bustling Roberston Walk, Epicurious does mostly al fresco seating with the exception of 3 small tables in its tiny interior which seem to suffer from cooling problems (read. Where's the airconditioning) The al fresco area has big blower fans to cool the area though, which is probably why people usually choose to sit outside instead of inside (from my observations).

Epicurious Burger - Read many good things about the burger so thought I would give it a shot with the works ($4 for an addition of egg, cheese and bacon) First looks, it didn't come across as impressive as the one from Wild Rocket, especially in the size department. Taste wise was pretty decent though. The beef patty could have been a little less cooked but still managed to retain its juiciness and taste. Add the egg, cheese and bacon in and you get one hearty burger. I didn't like the bread though, which was a little too toasted, rendering it hard. The accompanying fries were just overfried and too salty.

Herb Roasted Half Chicken - The chicken was nice without being too strong on the herbs, a bane that most such dishes suffer from. However, the portions could have been bigger and I personally would have liked it to be a little more sour so as to bring out the contrast.

Hazelnut Cheesecake - Interestingly, the hazelnut cheesecake came topped with strawberries. That aside, it was actually quite good, with the cheese relatively light and airy without being too overwhelming. The base was a concoction of dark chocolate and orange peel, which was certainly something different.

$55 for 2 mains and 1 dessert might seem to be pushing the boundaries for reasonable pricing. But food is pretty decent and the place is rather cosy with good service. Worth a visit if you are in the vicinity and dont want to bust your budget dining at the fancier outfits.

my hubby and i went for a nice nights out to epicurious for dinner. as i ate a heavy lunch, i decided to order something light. i ordered their salad. i was pleased to be served with very fresh greens. love the cheese shavings that topped my salad. i light the salad as it was light and refreshing. if you are heavy, you can order this as a side, it is not too fattening as well.

I recently went to epicurious to celebrate a friend's birthday, the ambiance was quite nice and comfortable. Foodwise, it was quite good! The burger was great! It came with a large portion of fries. The fries were the normal fries but it somehow tasted nicer than the ones u get outside! The burger was so big, it is difficult to even bite it, but it was GOOD. The filling was generous and tasty. Simply great! The service was great too! Great place to celebrate a friend’s birthday.!

If you’re a regular blog-hopper like me (though I haven’t been one lately, what with about 1001 things to do -__- ), then you must have heard of Epicurious since so many blogs have reviewed it already. It’s popular for brunch, especially on the weekends when expats just swarmed the tiny little joint filled with a charming mish-mash of vintage memorabilia and furniture. There seems to be 2 camps: those who love it, and those who don’t. The former raves about everything from the food and service to the vibe and location, while the latter just scoffs at whatever the former gushes about Epicurious.

For those with a low tolerance for anything sour, you may want to pass the two-egg ratatouille omelette ($12++) cuz it’s filled with a super tangy tomato-eggplant-zucchini stew. Personally, I do like the appetising sourish tinge. Now, I have to express skepticism and disagree with the “great service” that Epicurious is known for. I requested for no Parmigiano-Reggiano but of cuz, they had to top the omelette with such a generous sprinkle; I wanted wholemeal toast and naturally, white toast was served and they even charged me for the additional bread when I pointed out their mistake. Huh, what do I need so much bread for?

The Epicurious burger ($18++) defines normalcy, from the house-made beef patty to the sautéed onions, mushrooms and fries. Makes me wonder why it’s one of the signature items on the menu. And it became an open face sandwich instead cuz they ran out of buns, tsk tsk.

Beware if the waitress comes back to the table after the order is taken and asks an innocent ”you want cheese right?” That’s an additional $2++ if you don’t know that it’s excluded from the price stated on the menu. Ya, it may come as a surprise, but we don’t memorise the menu’s description, do we.

I actually thought of going without desserts. For about 5secs. I ignored the waiter’s recommendation for the apple crumble cuz the “even newer!!” sticky date cake ($8++) was calling out to me. I’m not going to compare this with Marmalade Pantry cuz it’s just going to end up on the losing end. But on its own, it didn’t disappoint! Very moist and chewy in a kueh-like manner and surprisingly not too sweet even when drenched with butterscotch sauce. Love the creamy vanilla ice cream too. If I have to nit-pick, it’s that the cake wasn’t served warm so it didn’t have that temperature contrast I was looking for.

Remember the 2 camps of Epicurious I mentioned earlier? While I like the concept of dishing out hearty and wholesome food made from scratch, I’m inclining towards the latter group cuz the food was just so-so and I really don’t like the way they go about implementing ridiculous additional charges! No loss to them, I suppose, since they already have a loyal troop of regulars. And certainly no loss to me either.

If interested, you are welcome to drop by www.myfoodsirens.wordpress.com for more reviews/photos! =)
