Canele is among one of my favourite to-go place for the macarons. After having dinner with my friends at Plaza Singapura, I decided to drop by the Canele branch here to buy some macarons and a piece of cake to takeaway. The place was nicely decorated and felt very spacious. I loved that the display counter was placed facing the outside so that I could just order over the counter without entering the restaurant (it also made stalking the cakes easier). There was a variety of cakes and macarons in the display counter and the labeling signs also listed the ingredients of the confections which I thought was very informative and useful.I initially ordered Opera as there was one left when I was there, but while the guy was going to pack it for me, a dine-in customer ordered it and they decided to give the last piece to the dine-in customer instead. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with the service.I ended up getting the Triple Chocolate Cheesecake and the macarons to go.Triple Chocolate Cheesecake ($7.00)This was bittersweet with walnut bits for the added crunch. The base was slightly dry but the cheesecake portion was pretty nice. The part I liked most was the chocolate ganache which was silky smooth, rich and chocolatey. Overall, this was quite decent.Macarons ($11.50 for Box of 6)Canele has one of the best macarons I've tried among a few others. I got the Hazelnut, Feuilletine, Rose, Chocolate Noir, Fleur De Sel Caramel and Cookies & Cream flavours. The shells were very crispy with a chewy inside and the filling portion was quite thick. I liked that these macarons were not overly sweet and the individual flavours were generally discernible enough. My favourite flavour of all was Chocolate Noir, which was bittersweet. I also liked the Cookie and Cream. Hazelnut was quite light in taste but it was still pretty decent, but Feuilletine felt a tiny wee bit sour, as was Rose. On the other hand, the Fleur De Sel Caramel was a little too salty for me. These macarons cost $2.50 per piece, which I supposed was expected with an establishment like Canele. It is definitely more value for money to get a box of 6 for only $11.50 or 12 pieces for $21.50. The macarons are definitely a must try and I'll certainly be back again at the other Canele branches for the macarons! 繼續閱讀

I skipped breakfast last Saturday because I woke up late and had to rush to work. Luckily i finished work earlier and decided to treat myself a brunch before heading home. Had a really good cheesecake and triple chocolate cake from Canelé on my birthday last month. I went to check out their all day breakfast menu. Was surprised to see their egg benedict for only $10 so i ordered it right away. Oh boy, it was so good! The eggs were perfectly poached, yolk was runny, even the greens on the side was really fresh and the baked tomato with cheese was oozing with fresh tomato juice goodness. Their egg benedict is the cheapest yet tastiest i had so far. 👍👍👍*Review from mobile 繼續閱讀

My company has an afternoon event last Friday and we knocked off early at 4:30pm. I had done my homework online before hand and had decided to try the food at Canele at Plaza Singapura. My mistake for not checking the updated menu at the restaurant entrance! The evening peak has not started so I was ushered to my table immediately. After browsing through the menu, I realized that they DO NOT serve Wraps, Crepe (both sweet & savory) and Appetizers that was stated on their online menu. There is only a few selections of All Day Breakfast & Pastas, 3 kinds of Salads, 3 kinds of Sandwiches & 2 kinds of Burgers. The food selection is so limited that I took very very long to finally chose a salad and topped up for 2 sides. My tiny pot of Flowers of Asia tea $7.50++. The tiny pot contains about two full teacups of tea. The tea was quite fragrant but overpriced for its tiny portion. The Salad Canele $12.00++, fresh greens with hard boiled egg, crab meat and pine nuts drizzled with citrus dressing. One wouldn't notice the crab meat if they didn't read the menu description cos it was only sprinkled sparingly on top of the salad together with the pine nuts as garnishing! Luckily, I had topped up for 2 sides Sauteed Mushrooms $3.00++ and Ham $4.00++ to add on to the uninspiring salad.I didn't order dessert after the meal and chose to purchase them as takeaways to avoid paying them service charges for an unsatisfying meal.I bought a box of Assorted Signature macarons $11.50 and two slices of cakes $6.50 ea.The cakes were ok, pretty ordinary...nothing to shout about. Macarons were overly sweet, especially the Salted caramel one! The only flavor I fancied was the Chocolate Noir which contains 70% Valrhona Chocolate and was bitter sweet.I am truly disappointed with this restaurant. I won't be patronizing them for a long long while! For full review - http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2013/08/disappointing-dinner-at-canele.html 繼續閱讀

Canele has always been my favourite tea time place for me and my friends. I went to both Paragon and Dobby Ghaut's outlet, I would say the ambience at Paragon seems nicer. I tried the strawberry shortcake and as usual chocolate and caramel macarons and the summer season green apple macaron this time round. I am so happy with the choices I made. I shared the strawberry cheese cake with my friend and it is so nice. I guess you might want to share it with a friend if you are not really a fan of cheese cake like me, but I like it! Its a great choice for tea time! The green apple macaron is nice as well, I was afraid to try at first, fearing that it would be very sour kind. However, it is actually not bad, sour with the right amount of sweetness in it. Lastly, Chocolate is for you if you are a chocolate lover like me. 繼續閱讀

After Lauduree opened its first outlet in Singapore early this year, it seems like the island-craze for macarons has been reignited. As with every new food trend, Singaporeans seem to flock to get their hands on whatever the hot item of the moment is. At this moment, it seems to be the delicate french pastry, macarons! A sweet meringue-based confection, macarons can usually be found in a multitude of flavours and colours, ranging from the traditional (chocolate) to the artisan (Yuzu Ginger, what?!). Made in eye-catching pastel colours, I find myself irresistibly drawn to macaron displays, even if I have no intention of getting any, to ogle at the pretty pastries. So when my sister brought back a box of macarons from Canele, one of the more established pastry places in Singapore, I immediately got my greedy hands on it! All the pretty colors and delicious flavours! We had cookies and cream, hazelnut, strawberry, lemon and 2 chocolate ones because my sister is a chocoholic. Cookies and cream! This has to be hands-down the best flavour out of the bunch. Although its black (charred) appearance may be deceiving, this treat is definitely a must-try for all cookies and cream fans out there! The shell and filling complemented each other well and it was not too sweet also! While I did taste more cream than cookie, it was still delicious and I wish that they would bake them in bigger sizes because one is not enough! Hopefully they will come out with a giant sized one soon that's the size of a cheeseburger. That I would gladly sink my teeth into! I would recommend Canele's macarons to all the sweet-tooths out there! However, priced at $2.30 each, it can be quite steep so purchase with care! 繼續閱讀
