The meal was good with their offer but my friends and I agree that the meats and salad bar were still better at Brazil at 6th Avenue. The servers were also more smiley and less grouchy looking at Brazil.

Unless there is a big sale for their meal sets, we won't be going back anytime so soon.

Dining concept is pretty simple with tables and chairs placed in front of their restaurant on the raised wooden flooring like the rest of the eating places beside. The 74 seater restaurant offers an alfresco dining experience and ideal for people who love such dining style.

They are the one and only Brazilian churrascaria in Singapore that adopt Charcoal in their roasting method. The slow-roasting process allow meat in getting rich and smoky flavours. A key highlight of importing meat from Brazil is not only about their quality but that their flavour of beef tastes differently from American and Austrialia's thus look forward to this different gastronomic experience.

Other than serving roasted meat, the restaurant also offers a buffet counter consisting of salad, pastas, rice and even traditional Brazilian Feijoada (black bean stew). Let's have a look at some of the dishes on the buffet counter.

Up keeping its authenticity, this black bean stew is actually a National dish in Brazil and can either be served with pork or beef. In fact most part of the pork can be found in the stew and they were boiled till soften yet retaining its original flavours. If you don't mind eating innards or parts of pork, give it a try!

Following the food trend, Carne & Caipirinha offers Flaming Carbonara Pasta in cheese wheel too. The freshly cooked carbonara pasta was placed in the large Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese wheel and was tossed. There then the staff would prepare the flaiming cocktail consisting of 3 secret blends of alcohol and pour into the wheel. The pouring process allow the flames in melting the cheese as well as charring the pasta which in turn give out a different kind of aroma. Once the flame dies out, additional cheese will be added from the wheel into the dish before dishing out to the diners.

The FireBomb gave me a different prospection of having carbonara and having carbonara is not just dull with mushroom, bacon and cheese only. Instead, the alcohol had lifted the dish making it more savoury. For those who are interested, FireBomb is available at $10 per serving. However if you prefer just only carbonara, serving is unlimited.

Believe it or not, it was my virgin trip to Sunset way after residing in the west for almost my whole life. Thanks to OpenRice, I had such opportunity to have my first visit to Carne & Caipirinha for food tasting!

Carne & Caipirinha is a Brazilian churrascaria which is one of the very few restaurants in Singapore that offers a meat buffet. Not to mention, they are the only one that uses charcoal fire for slow-roasting of quality meat, mostly directly imported from Brazil.

Beware everyone... All are warned to fast at least a day before the buffet. Let me now explain why.

So all of us started with their signature drink known as Caipirinha. It is a refreshing and tangy cocktail, with fresh limes as mixer, infused with a shot of alcohol. It tasted much like a mojito lime in my opinion, except that it was probably a double shot. After a few sips, my mind tells me that its time to get started with the buffet. The fresh lime in it stimulates our appetite and it really went well with the meat! They offer imported Brazilian beer and wines too. Beef and wine, need i say more?

As for non alcoholics, you can try their Guarana Antartica, the very first soft drink produced in Brazil.

The buffet counter greeted us with a great variety! From fresh salads to cooked pastas, along with a pretty good range of condiments! There was also their national dish known as Brazilian Feijoada (black bean stew), made from trimmings of meat eg. ears, tongues, tails. Pretty exotic and interesting but taste wise was pretty mediocre. I enjoyed the stir fry vegetables a lot more and secretly went back for second round after all the meat tastings. Highly recommend you to take more to go along with the meat!

There were 14 types of grills on the menu which consist of pork, beef, lamb, chicken and fish. Warm cheesebread was served to us too where some of the members gobbled at least 10 of them.

The pork belly was very juicy cause of the fat layer. The sides were charred and hence bringing more flavours to the meat.

Beef rump! It was very lean and thus was a tad too dry for my liking.

Beef hump! Apparently one of the cow species in Brazil has humps. This fared alot better than the rump! It contains more fats as compared to the rump but it was much more tender and flavourful. My favourite meat of the night!

Towards the end of the meal there were grilled pineapples served! It was extremely sweet and soft. I can't help but took 3 servings of it. I love how it washes down the "gelatness" after the overload of meat.

Carne & Caipirinha is offering a promotional item now known as "The Firebomb". It is a flaming carbonara pasta infused with 3 different alcohol! Staffs will perform in front of their guests as per order. Firstly, freshly cooked carbonara pasta with mushrooms will be tossed into a large Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese wheel, followed by pouring in a flaming cocktail. The flame will then char the pasta and melt the cheese, giving it a good balanced of flavour. More cheese will be scrapped onto the dish before serving! The taste of the pasta is unique and there was a hint of sweetness to it due to the alcohol. I personally enjoyed the rendition without alcohol more but others preferred the former. Do give it a try if you are there!

The Firebomb is available at $10 per serving and the carbonara pasta without alcohol infused is included in the buffet. So if you need some carbs along with the meat, don't forget to order it.

Overall, I enjoyed my dining experience at Carne & Caipirinha. It is an entirely different buffet experience whereby servers approach you with huge meat skewers and serve it before your eyes. Though there were some hits and misses but it is pretty worth the value. Do catch their happy hour for a better deal!

Happy Hour:

Mondays to Saturdays: 5.30-7pm

Sundays & Public Holidays: 5-6pm

Children (5 to 12 years old): $18(HH)/$24 (Free for under 5 years old)

Adult: $39.90(HH)/$49.90

Churrascaria refers to a restaurant that serves grilled meats in buffet style where passadors (chef and meat servers) will serve the grilled meats on skewers right to the dining table and carve out portions of meat onto the diners' plates.

How does the passadors know who and when to serve the food? Other than hand gestures or eye signals, the small two-sided coaster-like disc acts like a traffic light for the flow of the food to be served. Where green says "Yes, Please" go ahead serve me food and red means stop "No, Thanks".

And here we go, the meat journey begins!

Lamb Leg (Carneiro), Pork Belly (Barriga de Porco), Pork Sausage (Linguica), Chicken Thigh (Coxa de frango) and Chicken Fillet wrapped in Bacon were some of the roasted meats that we tasted. Though the pork belly wasn't the crispy skinned type served in chinese restaurant, nevertheless the meat is rather tender. The best for this round, in my opinion, have to be the chicken thigh. Tender, full of flavour and grilled to perfection. The pork sausage and chicken fillet wrapped in bacon seems rather normal in comparison.

Among the many meat varieties available, the must-try items are namely the Beef Rump (Alcatra), Beef Hump (Cupim), Fish (Escolar) and Chicken Heart (Galinha de Coracao). Beef Hump!? Cows have hump? Well yes, humped cattle known as zebu are found only in Brazil and I figured that the meat nearer to the fats are more tender than those further away.

Oh my! Chicken Heart! Yup, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Its Chicken Heart. Seriously, the chewy texture doesn't taste as exotic as it sounds. The top in my favourite list for the night and the winner for this must-try category got to be the Fish. The oil content in this kind of fish is rather high and we were advised not to take more than four pieces as it can cause stomach upset the following day.

"The FireBomb" Flaming Carbonara Pasta in Cheese Wheel is a food trend that is sweeping the world. Freshly cooked Carbonara pasta is tossed in a large Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese wheel, followed by pouring in a flaming cocktail consisting a secret blend of 3 different alcohol. The flames will char the pasta and melt the cheese making this different from the normal Carbonara with an intoxicating aroma.

We tried both the alcohol and non-alcohol version and I personally prefer the former. Just to highlight, The FireBomb is available at S$10 per serving.

The usage of charcoal fire not only retains the rich flavours of the meat but also delivers the charred smoky taste. How appealing! A meal here comes buffet style, featuring a self service salad and starters bar to accompany your never-ending supply of meat.
You will be spoilt for choice at the salad and starters bar! If you want to feel less sinful, help yourself to the lettuce with various dressings for you to choose from, although this isn’t really the place for it. Otherwise, hop over the starters side and pick out whichever that catches your eye — sauteed vegetables, grilled corn, green olives, coleslaw, mushroom with onions, mixed fruits, potato & egg and more. The selection is just endless! Traditional Brazilian Feijoada, a type of black bean stew, is also available at Carne & Caipirinha. This is stewed together with some pork and it was easy to eat with the soft textures.
As attractive as the salad and starters bar might be, remember to save lots of stomach space for the main character of the night — the slow roasted meats! A disc will be available to every diner. You can flip it to the “Yes, please” side and the servers will offer you the skewers. But if you would like to take a break, you can turn it to the “No, thanks” side that signals them to stop!
These are the meats available — Pork (sausage, belly, rib, ham), Lamb leg, Chicken (thigh, fillet wrapped with bacon, heart), Beef (rump cap, rump, hump, rib), Fish and Grilled Pineapple. What a hearty selection!
The highlights for me were the pork ham, chicken thigh and grilled pineapple! The chicken thigh was beautifully roasted with a brown glazed skin, yet retaining the moisture and tenderness on the inside. Perhaps it’s the nature of thigh meat being more tender, but it was definitely a crowd pleaser amongst us! The pork ham was flavorful and tender, and contrasted well with the rest of the roasted meats. After all that meat indulgence, a piece of sweet juicy and tangy roasted pineapple definitely served as a good break. It came with thin layer of slightly charred exterior and beneath that was where all the goodness was. The warm pineapple was a great way to end off the heavy meal!

This is different from other buffets. Here, what is really unique is that the waiters will bring the charcoal-grilled skewers of meat piping hot from the kitchen right to your seat, and carve it onto your plate. It is pretty fun and definitely ups the visual appeal to your meal experience. Apparently, this serving style is known as rodizio and popular in Brazil. Churrascaria refers to a restaurant serving free-flow grilled meats. That makes two interesting facts, especially for meat-lovers.

To start off the meal, we were served these warm cheese bread (Pao de Queijo). These were chewy little round pieces with a slightly crisp crusty outside, but chewy-like-mochi cheese inside. Very very addictive. Don't stop yourself from having more than one. We couldn't.

Depending on your choice, the drink may come at an additional cost to the buffet.

The buffet includes a free-flow salad bar that has a good variety of salads, rice, and some cooked dishes like the Brazilian Feijoada (black bean stew with pork trimmings). I tried the black bean stew, and took a piece of the pork trimming. A bite of it and...I think it's better if you take the meat in the stew, if you really want to try the stew, instead.

Between the beef rump, and the beef hump which is apparently a rare cut to eat, a good majority preferred the juicier beef hump. For me, both cuts were dry, so I guess you must get the beef hump part with fats so that it isn't as dry. The lamb cut was decent.

Fish (Escolar)

The grilled fish, would have been among my preferred items, if not for the fact that it was slightly too salty and had this sour-ish aftertaste that I didn't quite appreciate. I liked the firm texture of the fish. However, we were told we shouldn't have more than 4 or 5 pieces of the fish because its fats cannot be digested. In other words, if we did, we would spend our next day in the toilet.

Chicken Heart

It might sound exotic and off-putting. This was ironically, my favourite for the night, though I only had one piece because the idea of it just stopped me from having another one. The chicken heart, was well-seasoned, grilled and had this supple, bouncy texture to it. If you didn't tell me, I would not be so chicken and would have more.

Pork Ribs - a good-to-have too!

They also served a juicy grilled pineapple, which is a must.

As it is a buffet, you can simply just have as much of what you like. The must-haves are in bold above in the 'meat list'.

The "FireBomb"

This dish has been making waves on Instagram, and really, who won't be fascinated by carbonara pasta cooked in a live fire in a Parmesan-Reggiano cheese wheel?

We had both versions, one with the alcohol tinge(cooked with the fire showcase), and one without. We preferred the one without. Do not expect the carbonara to be very italian-style though. This comes at an additional $10, but since it's a buffet, just get one serving to share and for the experience of seeing the 'firebomb'.

It may get a little bit warm for those who can't take SG's heat that well, so make sure to pick the spot with a fan. Overall, the food is acceptable, my main pick being the beef being too dry. However, the other meats are alright, if not above average and the dining experience is different. Carne is a good option to consider for a change in cuisine.

For the best value, you should catch the Happy Hour, from 5.30-7pm Mondays to Saturdays ($39,90 for adults, $18 for children and free for children < 5 years). As long as you are seated before 7pm, you get to enjoy the price, which is $10 lesser per pax, (yes you don't have to leave by 7pm) and stay as long as you desire.

Carne & Caipirinha (please don't ask me how to pronounce it) is a restaurant located along Sunset Way in Clementi.
I wouldn't say that it was a very convenient location considering that I was a little lost trying to find the restaurant but with Google Maps, you will eventually reach your destination.

I was there for a tasting with the lovely folks from Openrice SG.
Despite it being located under a HDB block, this 74-seater Brazilian restaurant which offers a marvelous alfresco dining experience actually looked really posh. In terms of ambience, they are definitely comparable to those atas restaurants in Rochester Park or Dempsey Hill.

One of their must-trys from the buffet line was the traditional Brazilian Feijoada, also known as black bean stew. Definitely tasted better than it looked!

I also adore their Cheese Bread and was glad that the cheese wasn't too overpowering in its taste.

Saw this on the table and didn't pay much attention to it until I realized that this was actually a 2-sided disc to indicate the pace of your meals.
In Carne & Caipirinha, the passadors (who are chefs as well as meat servers) will move around from table to table with their meat skewers. If your disc is facing the green side with the words 'Yes, Please', the passador will serve a portion of meat right onto your plate. This serving style is known as rodizio which is a popular dining concept in Brazil. So cool!

Had the privilege to sample different types of meat such as pork sausage, beef rump, beef hump, lamb leg, chicken thigh and even chicken heart. Oh my god! I was quite scared to try chicken heart at first but well, it didn't taste as bad as I expected. It actually tasted like any other meat except with a more rubbery texture.

The restaurant's beef and chicken are directly imported from Brazil and I would say that I actually prefer the chicken rather than the beef served. The chicken meat was really tender while I wasn't used to the texture of the beef although I'm more of a beef lover. I normally detest lamb as well but strangely, I was able to finish my portion of lamb leg without complaining about the taste.

One thing worthy of highlighting was that the meat served were roasted using charcoal fire which helps to retain the meat's rich flavours and also causes it to emit a smoky fragrance. I guessed that's why the meat looked so tantalizing all the time.
I also really love juicy grilled pineapples even though I know that they are really easy to make in reality.

When you are done with feasting and want to subtly convey the message that you do not want any additional meat served onto your plate, simply flip the disc to the red one with the words ' No, Thanks'.

We also got to try 'The FireBomb' ($10 per serving) which was exceptionally interesting for me because I got to witness its preparation.
Firstly, the chef will toss freshly cooked Carbonara pasta into this huge Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese Wheel.

This plate of yummilicious and extraordinary carbonara pasta!
The blend of cheese, mushrooms and that hint of alcohol within the pasta made the taste very memorable and was definitely the highlight of my night.

Heard about Carnivore? The concept of Carne & Caipirinha is quite similar to Carnivore with the difference of them being the one and only brazilian churrascaria in Singapore that uses charcoal fire for slow-roasting quality meats retaining the meat’s rich flavors and finishing off with an irresistible smoky fragrance. Not forgetting that their meat buffet galore are accompanied with a salad bar too. The buffet prices differs between Happy Hour & Regular Hours. More details at the end of the post

Let’s take a peek what’s there in their salad bar selection. It basically consists selection of gourmet salads, pastas, rice and their very own traditional Brazilian Feijoada (it’s a kind of black bean stew with pork trimmings, be it the meat, ears etc that was used).

There you see in the third tray from the left sits the traditional Btrazilian Feijoada, the flavor was actually quite good, it’s a little light and mellow on the taste buds but the meat were a little tough to ingest.

Some condiments accompanying your meats. The refreshing salsa is the best accompaniment to the heavily seasoned meat cuts.

Cheese bread to kick start your buffet. This cheese bread is simply fascinating, it’s warm and has a chewy cheesey texture within. Small yet highly addictive.

Refreshing and tangy with a bite of citrus, it’s little wonder that Caipirinha is one of Brazil’s signature tipple. Refreshing and sublime flavours of fresh limes infused with a shot of the finest liquor.

After gourmet of salads, appetizers and drinks, are you all set for the buffet line? At Carne & Caipirinha, you get to set your own eating pace with the use of these 2 sided green and red card. When it’s a green, it’s a go-ahead to the Passadors to carve dining portion of meat off the skewers right on to your dining plates, while if it’s a red, it will means that the Passadors will stop serving you while letting you to take a rest from all the delicacies.

There are a total of 15 premium cuts to choose from, with each and every of them directly imported from Brazil which brings about a robust and satisfying taste. The first two that you are looking at now are Pork Sausage and Chicken Fillet wrapped in Bacon. The pork sausage has a sour flavor to it while the chicken fillet wrapped in bacon is firm and bountiful.

Cubes of roasted Pork Belly that was actually meaty and savory but the skin was a tad too disappointing. Only if it was crackling good.

Besides pork and chicken, Lamb Leg, Beef Rump and Beef Hump were served too. Personally i preferred their Beef Hump than their Beef Rump, it’s more tender and juicer. Their Lamb Leg is not a bad choice too if you do not mind the smell of the lamb. Missing here are their Beef Rump Cap and Beef Rib.

We were warned not to eat more than 4 of these Fish Cubes as they are high in fat content which our body may not be able to digest fully. The coat is a little crispy and salty while the flesh inside is warm, moist and soft.

Chicken hearts that are not for the faint-hearted. Exotic it may sound, but the taste turns out surprisingly good and acceptable. It has a unique chewy texture with no strong aroma.

Not forgetting another highlight of this restaurant – “The Firebomb” Flaming Carbonara Pasta in Cheese Wheel. Freshly cooked carbonara pasta will first be tossed in this large Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese wheel, then flaming cocktail consisting a secret blend of 3 different alcohol will be poured in. The flames will char the pasta and melt the cheese, turning it into a beautifully balanced cream sauce with intoxicating aroma. We tried both version of the Carbonara Pasta, with and without the alcohol. “The Firebomb” Carbonara Pasta has a sweet aftertaste with trailing aroma of liquor while the normal Carbonara Pasta has a strong creamy and cheesy aftertaste which was more savory and desired for. Both versions have its own merits, it just depends on individual liking. Just to note “The Firebomb” pasta is available at an additional of $10 per serving.
All in all, it will be a heaven for meat lovers and food lovers who prefers heavily seasoned food or stronger flavors.
