Environment is clean and spacious, with ample of seating around. They do not give me the typical fast food joint feel whereby advertisement of their food can be found everywhere in the restaurant. The place is suitable for families and large groups as they are equipped with round as well as long tables.

With self helping Kiosk near the entrance, this allow patrons to order their food and do their payment straight away.

However, if you still prefer ordering food with some human touch, you can proceed all the way into the restaurant and place your orders over the counter. Instead of being in the queue to wait for your order, they have a numbering system in place and will buzz off once its ready for collection.

Condiments like Tomato and Chilli sauces can be taken at the side of the counter.

3 Piece Set Meal includes 3 pieces of chicken, 1 corn muffin, 1 drink and 2 sides of our choice. Corn muffin caught me by surprise, it wasn't the kind of biscuits served in Popeyes. It was warm, full of corn fragrant stuffed with corn kernels. Curly fries were rather standard and for onion rings, they were using those quality big cuts ones.

For the main attraction on the plate - fried chicken, there are 2 choices to choose from, Hot & Spicy or Crispy. Comparing to what we had KFC, Hot & Spicy will be KFC, Crispy edition whereas Crispy will be KFC's originals.

The combination of 2 Piece Chicken Set is the same as the 3 Piece Meal just that there is 1 piece of chicken lesser.

As compared to the Crispy version, Hot & Spicy elevates the urge in wanting a meal in Chic A Boo more. Despite being juicy and succulent which already win most of the fast food place hands down, it has a little hot fiery kick in its golden batter crisp skin.

TCO salad was rather interesting and I guessed that the abbreviation should refer to Tomato, Cucumber and Onions. It has a zingy dressing that refreshed the taste-buds after a those fried flavours.

Coleslaw on the other hand was not too bad too. Refreshing and not too creamy.

So what's the verdict? I'm on the same side as my pals who mentioned that their fried chicken was way better than KFC, with my trip down to Chic A Boo, I confirmed that there is no doubt about that. Using fresh tender chicken, there was no signs of frozen meat smell or taste which is actually my main concern on the chickens. Other than that, price of the meal is rather competitive too. Portions are big and you get to have two sides, really value for money!

Ambience at Chic-A-Boo Fried Chicken is bright, clean, and minimalist. The layout is spartan but functional, wide spacious wooden booths and dining tables in neat rows, with ample natural and fluorescent lighting. There is some simple decor, calling to mind the farms and barnyards of the countryside. Rather quiet most of the time, it can get noisy during peak periods.

Service at Chic-A-Boo Fried Chicken is largely self-service, with ordering, payment, and collection done over the counter. The menu is clear and easy to read, and staff will make recommendations if asked. However, they also tend to be rather brusque, and some of the younger staff seem to be working their 1st job... not much for manners. I note that empty / dirty tables are cleared quite efficiently. Waiting time for food during non-peak periods is less than 3 minutes, but peak periods can stretch the wait up to 30 minutes!

Food at Chic-A-Boo Fried Chicken is Singaporean style Western cuisine. Chic-A-Boo Fried Chicken uses only fresh chicken, not frozen poultry. Taste of their fried chicken is extremely similar to Tenderfresh or Arnold's Fried Chicken, with side dishes resembling Kenny Rogers Roasters. Generally, their fried chicken has a savoury, crisp skin, with a thin golden batter, and succulent, juicy, tender chicken meat. Portions are big for 1 person, and prices are similar to a coffeeshop, budget about SGD $8 per person for a meal here. Worth dining at Chic-A-Boo Fried Chicken at least once!

The Set Meal (SGD $7.90) for 1 person has either 2 pieces of chicken, or 2 pieces of fish, along with any choice of 2 side dishes, 1 regular size soft drink, and 1 Corn Muffin.

Similar in style to Kenny Rogers Roasters, the Corn Muffin (SGD $1.20) is warm, fragrant and soft, studded within with corn kernels. Though it's not as tasty as the original version, it's still pretty good!

These are possibly the cheapest Sweet Potato Fries (SGD $2) in Singapore, and well worth the visit just to eat these! Warm and soft, with natural sweet potato flavour, the thick cut sweet potato fries have a slight pillowy texture.

Only fresh chickens are used to prepare the Favourite Fried Chicken (SGD $2.50 Per Piece). The golden skin has a light, crisp batter, savoury and delicious, although the taste is very similiar to Tenderfresh or Arnold's Fried Chicken. There are 3 parts to choose from, Thigh, Drumstick, or Breast, of these, I personally recommend getting the chicken Thigh or Drumstick, as these 2 parts have chicken meat that is succulent, juicy, and tender.

Chic-A-Boo is apparently yet another brand that is set up by the same owners behind Aston’s; apparently a fact that I only recently learnt about after reading a Facebook post by ieatishootipost, which probably told us why it actually was located beside an Aston’s Express stall when it was in Ang Mo Kio. The menu at the HillV2 outlet did seem pretty similar to the Ang Mo Kio one, and while prices still remain rather affordable there seems to be a rough increase about a dollar for all the sets.Giv

Given that I had tried Set 1 ($7.90) previously at Ang Mo Kio, we decided to go for it again to see if they had made any improvements along with its move. The same deal goes; two sides, a corn muffin and two chicken parts with a soft drink. Chic-A-Boo does not allow their patrons to choose chicken parts, so you would have to do with a Drumstick and a Breast for Set 1. What’s good though is that you can mix flavours, which means you can actually order both Favourite and Hot ‘n’ Spicy in one set. Of the two, I preferred the Hot ‘n’ Spicy; its marination felt more thorough and the mild hotness did not kill that tangy flavour at the start. The Original was as tender, but felt less crisp, less thorough in marination and lacked a wow-factor to it. TCO Salad was an interesting side, but it was not the regular salad we were expecting; its zingy dressing is definitely refreshing especially after a fried meal as it felt like a Carpaccio instead. While the Sweet Potato Fries sounded enticing, it could have been better; more warm, more crisp and maybe slightly salty to tickle the taste buds. If anyone remembered my previous visit to the Ang Mo Kio outlet, you probably may have recalled that I was not too fond of the Corn Muffin. Glad to say they made major improvements to it now; its more crumbly and bread-like with the crusted top, and is no longer that greasy mushy mess that it was way back in the day!

To try a wider variety of food, I decided to go for the Fish Fillet burger ($4.50). Buns were heated upon serving, and you get a bit of crustiness from it as well. I also loved the Fish Fillet, served hot and crispy and felt similar to Long John Silver’s fish fillets when they used to be way better. The other ingredients; the lettuce, the tomatoes and that slice of cheese that looks like it came off a Kraft pack are simply too pedestrian and made the whole package felt kinda cheap. And yes, even at $4.50 I felt really confused about it; it just felt like a burger that came off from a stall in any coffeeshop.

Well, I seldom eat fast food; and if I do I don't write about it. I have decided to write about Chic-A-Boo because of its location at my current favorite hangout - HillV2. I had wanted to try the Black Pepper Chicken Burger (SGD$4.90) but there were no burgers available on that fateful Saturday evening at merely 8.00pm. Hence I settled for the Chicken Potpie (SGD$5.90) which came in an adorable large dome-shaped bread bowl.

Opening up the "lid" revealed the surprise that the crispy bread bowl - and yes, it was very delightedly crispy - the top part was spread with garlic butter so it was like eating garlic bread literally. The thick soupy fillings were heavy with pepper taste, which suited me just fine - and it was loaded with chunks of chicken, peas, carrots, corn etc. It was a lovely dish especially eaten in combination with its crispy crust.

The Beau ordered Set 2 (SGD$9.50) consisting of 3 piece chicken (he chose 2 spicy, 1 original), corn muffin and a soft drink. For the 2 sides, we had coleslaw and potato wedges - I rather liked the shell-shaped wedges as they were quite crispy.
As for the chicken, oh well, let's just say we didn't feel it was worth the 30-40 minutes wait (yes, it was that long a wait!). The outside was rather flakey, yes, and at first couple of bites one could commend it for being "tasty", "flavorful" etc. Though, afterwards it just sank in that the entire chicken was simply too salty, obliterating what spiciness there was. The corn muffin was nothing in comparison to Kenny Rogers' sweet and fluffy ones.
