Cocotte is located at the lobby of Wanderlust. Decor was pretty quirky with retro furniture lying around. Came here because of the much raved about roast chicken. Yeah much raved about and expensive chicken from France. Overall i think this place is overrated, not worth the price and sadly the chicken is good but still really not worth it. Ahhh I cant remember the exact price, kept it at the back of my head. Do not misunderstand me, it is not bad, but well... it is still just a chicken. Chicken

Chicken breast is still kinda dry and the marinate a little too salty.

Anyway this is the complimentry bread

The scrambled eggs was paired very nicely with the tomatoes and mushrooms. Though many breakfast places would offer a similar option, the taste was slightly sweeter perhaps because they may have added honey or maple syrup but your taste buds will truly enjoy it.

I'm not a banana person but the pancakes with the granola bits was a good complement. The portion was a little big though so I could hardly finish what I had ordered. I also added a plain yogurt on the side to complement the maple syrup and the dish.

An opportunity to try out Cocotte's (which is actually a small casserole used in French cooking) newly launched brunch menu came by way of an invitation to dine there one Sunday afternoon. At the helm of this one and a half year old French restaurant is Chef Anthony Yeoh, who used to one half of the "Funky Chefs" cooking duo that offered private chef services.

Holed up on the ground level of Wanderlust Hotel along Dickson Road, Cocotte takes quite an effort to get to if you are driving. There are major constructions going around in that area and some streets are no through road or one way. Parking is a nightmare as street lots are limited and the unofficial extension of the Sungei Road flea market spills over.

The restaurant itself isn't big (probably 40 - 50 diners tops) and has a strange welcoming feel to it. I wouldn't describe it as homely but it had this certain appeal to make you want to just sit back and enjoy your meal in a very measured sort of way. Guess they don't want you to get too comfortable and hog the tables haha.

Croissants ($9) & Pain Au Chocolat ($10) - I can't begin expressing how good the croissants and pain au chocolat were. Served up warm, both pastries boasted a crusty exterior with puffy layers of soft, chewy goodness. Although I love chocolate, I personally preferred the croissant as it had a nice buttery finish to it. If you prefer it a little sweet, help yourself to the bottles of Alain Milliat jam that comes alongside. And I kid you not. It's probably one of the best I've had in Singapore so far. The secret behind it? The pastries are imported directly from France and baked to perfection in Cocotte's ovens.

Nicoise Salad ($18) - Fresh crunchy greens with a generous topping of tuna chunks and a smattering of anchovies, olives and hard boiled eggs - the answer to the problem of kids refusing to eat their greens. The anchovies were a little too salty though so make sure you eat them together with the greens.

Roast Herb Potatoes ($6) & Slow Roasted Vine Tomatoes and Garlic ($8) - Both of these were sides and although I didn't quite take to the tomatoes, I have to admit that they were pretty good - sweet yet mildly tart. My gf loves them though; that and the herb potatoes, which were infused with a slight herb taste and didn't come across as too soft.

Toulouse Sausages ($10) - Coming across as relatively thick, the sausages were a mixture of chicken and pork. Very flavourful and rather juicy. Only downside is that it's really quite oily and consuming too much will not only make you nauseous but send your cholesterol levels soaring.

Scrambled Eggs ($5) - Simplicity at its best. The eggs were nice with a hint of milkiness sans the wateriness. Now if only I had kept some of the croissant to go with it.

Creamed Leeks and Scallops Crepe ($22) - Honestly I'm not a big fan of the savoury crepes, being more partial towards it's sweet cousin. So this didn't quite work for me though I liked the huge piece of seared scallop atop.

Croque Madame ($18) - The croque madame ranked a close second to the croissants in my list of favourite dishes that afternoon. Crisp brioche heavy on the buttery goodness and topped with ham and a runny egg. Simply decadent! And not to mention unhealthy. But hey, for something so good, health concerns can always take a back seat for the moment ;)

The food we ordered included mushroom soup, AMAZING i must say especially with a tinge of truffle oil.

Didn't try the escargots my friend ordered but they looked good as well, though it was served in a croissant bread, thats a first.

We also had the atlantic salmon and also the duck breast served with a weird jam-like sauce that we all found a little overpowering.
I also don't know if its me or with duck meat, that i found very hard to chew and swallow and had to order wine just to down it better.

The Creme Brulet was probably the best part of the meal i must say, cold and refreshing and not too sweet!

However, we sat next to the window, and outside the window was a very dirty looking alleyway with bins and garbage bags.
So if you go there, try to get a seat that faces the inside of the restaurant.

In my opinion, it was not worth $50-$60 per person to have a 3 course set lunch.
Though its worth trying it out, a new restaurant situated in a new boutique hotel with cool decorations

The breakfast menu was light but fulfilling with cereals and bread spread on the buffet table. Food quality was maintained as what was anticipated and laid on for the bench mark. Service was prompt with no reservation nor doubts from the staff.

For anyone who are keen to have a stylish morning breakfast and a strong believer that ambience do play an important part of a good meal, Cocotte is the place to visit!

We ordered the Fried Tripe and Escargots for starters, it was obvious that the ingredients were fresh and it wasn't over fried or left an oily after taste in your mouth. I loved the cheesy puffs that had the escargots tucked within it, not too heavy and the dip mixture was not too tangy with just a right tinge of tomato sweetness.

Everyone got a bit greedy and I think the sharing portions for their food really fits into the community feel that Asian dining is all about. The food came promptly and so we had the roast chicken (a MUST try), steak and pork collar. I've never tasted roast chicken that was so juicy and succulent, I really wondered how the one can get chicken breast meat to be as tender as thigh meat. The steak was good enough but we ordered a second portion of the pork collar cos its that good.

The apple tart in dessert was really yummy but the best part was when the Head Chef (I think his name is Anthony?) heard that it was a birthday celebration at our table, he personally came out to serve their birthday dessert for our friend and even sang the birthday song with us, what a nice guy.

The decor is a little mixed, not sure about the multi coloured chairs but I really like the design of the menu! Its like a clip board so it makes you feel like you are "in-charge" when you are ordering.

This place is definitely not for those on a strict diet and those who flee at the sight of pork fat and rich foods. But if you want a semi-decadent, warm and cosy evening out with friends with no pretension or delicately arranged food, then this is your place.

Heard that they are booked out usually for the MONTH in advance so guess I'll have to wait a while before I get to dig into that awesome roast chicken!

Located on the ground floor of the hotel, you walk into a quaint little corner pass the entrance. The interior eclectic. I've always had a penchant for quaint old rustic designs, euro inspired, and they successfully achieved the look for it.

The first table at the entrance of the restaurant, was more like a signature art piece. The artistic chandelier looming above the table put together with mismatched coloured chairs. Cement screed walls giving it a raw yet interesting feel, as the lights bounced off it's textures. Walk on, and you spot little details in old nostalgic pots and pans, displays, and bottles. Vintage yet designer pieces, beckoning for your attention, from it's corners. I had especially loved the corner right next to their bar.

The service was however lacking. They slotted us at a table near the toilet, which we requested to change. Not to mention that we had tried several times to garner a confirmed reservation as they were often full house, and had to reject our advanced booking. After moving us, a staff with hardly audible english served us. Maybe we were hungry and tired, so we got slightly irritated. The dishes were also not up to our expectations. I guess after several bookings, the expectations also grew with anticipation. We were sadly to say, disappointed.

Their dishes were not balanced in taste. One could tell the chef was new. The menu wasn't tried and tested They were beautifully presented no doubt. However, would love to see the taste factor improve. Meanwhile, we wouldn't be back for quite some time.

Cocotte is a 2 months old French restaurant at The Wanderlust Hotel. More & more restaurants have been opening up in ulu places , waiting for us to discover them. With the presence of Cocotte, ”The Black Sheep Cafe” would certainly face a tough competitor!
Cocotte has 2 meanings to it:

1. Small casserole in which individual portions can be cooked and served.
2 .A prostitute or promiscuous woman.
I’m sure it does not refer to the latter. Anyway, Cocotte serves Rustic French cuisine by Chef Anthony Yeoh & his team.

The restaurant is located at the ground level of The Wanderlust Hotel. It has a colonial feel to it and the casual layout makes the dining experience comfortable & relaxing. The chairs were smaller than usual & the lighting would change automatically according to the ambience.

The Set Lunch Menu

Cocotte offers a 3 course set lunch menu priced at $28++. The tart of the day and soup change weekly while the menu changes monthly.
The Signature dishes: Fried Tripe, Escargot Gougeres , Roast Pork Collar
( Tart of the day : Ratatouille tart with goat’s cheese)

Pear & Rocket Salad
The rocket leaves salad has blue cheese and sweet pear. I didn’t like the blue cheese due to the pungent & salty flavour. The pears were sweet & goes well with Sherry mustard vinaigrette.

Seabass with shaved fennel, tomato provencal & baby potatoes

The seabass was well-executed, without much seasoning and marinates , it has it’s natural sweet flavour. I enjoyed the tomato provencal in particular, it has an influence of Indian cuisine – tangy and sweet.

Apple tartin
The dessert is a disappointment. While the caramelised apples were soft & sweet , the tart base was too soggy. The tart base just failed miserably….
Verdict: I like the ”colonial” feel of this restaurant, the casual & laid-back ambience makes the dining experience very relaxed. The staff were well-trained & courteous.
