It was packed on level 2 when i was there and i didn't check out level 3. So i decided to just take the counter seats which is not bad cause i get to chat with the staff a bit.

I ordered the egg benedict ($13.50) and a latte with cute coffee art in the shape of a koala ( just +$3 for this if you order egg benedict ). Both were pretty good. Poached eggs were nice and runny for the yolk! Pretty shiok! It filled me up just nice cause i wasn't too hungry. Going to try the pasta for my next visit.

I didn't had a chance to sit on it as it was occupied the whole time. The counter is on the 2nd floor and once you place your order, they will give you a buzzer to inform you once the food and drinks are ready. We went up to the third floor and managed to find a cosy seat at the corner! Besides the usual tables and chairs, there are also rocking horses, high chairs and bean bags to sit on! There is a balcony outside which provides a rooftop alfresco atmosphere. The Pesto Chicken Pasta tasted pretty average, and it is actually a very simple dish, just pasta, grilled chicken and pesto sauce. The Spinach Quiche is served alongside chips and salad, which also tasted very ordinary. I would love to try their coffee but it's already dinner time and I shall leave it for my next visit here! Overall, this multi-leveled cafe gives me a very laid-back atmosphere and I feel it's a very comfy place to just laze around and chill with your friends.

You actually can smell the strong coffee aroma when you just arrived at this café. There is also alfresco outdoor sitting at the third level balcony if you prefer as well as child friendly seating indoors at the third level. To my amaze, the coffee came in different kind of Coffee art when it was served. There were swan, cat, bear and lion. I ordered a Hazelnut latte ($5.50) and I love how the coffee tastes as well. The acidity level is just nice and I can drink it without sugar. Tried the Egg benedicts, Japanese curry, Fresh Sea Prawn Aglio Olio, d’Good Maple Sea Salt Cheesecake ($8) & d’Good Triplet Cheesecake ($8). The cheesecakes left me a deeper impression. Really love especially the Maple Sea Salt Cheesecake and how it tasted. It was delicious and maple sea salt flavour is unique because usually you will hear about caramel sea salt instead. If you are interested in coffee cupping and, it is also available which I find it quite interesting as well. Cause the barrister will brew the coffee in front of you and adjust the taste according to your preference. This café is really worth checking out!

D'Good cafe is near Holland Village MRT, making this a really accessible place for patrons. All you have to do is follow the line of shophouses to the right of Wendy's before you come to this lovely cafe. The ambience is nice & warm -the three storeys give it a homey feel even though it would seem segmented.

English Breakfast
The English breakfast is decent -nothing spectacular. The mushrooms were well seasoned but I felt that the eggs weren't seasoned enough. The bacon would be better if it were more crispy. The toast was good though!

Eggs Benedict
This dish was good. It had an interesting taste as the sauce was more lemony than I expected. It would be nice if the dish had mushrooms as a side. It would have been a perfect complementary feature. Salad was nothing to shout about but decent.

Aglio Olio
The prawns were very well seasoned and it tasted super awesome! The spaghetti could have been slightly saltier though (I like my food more heavily seasoned). Other than that, the texture was great and the taste was ok.

Curry Rice
I didn't really like the curry rice because I felt like it wasn't flavoursome enough. The sauce tasted quite homemade and its not really something I would pay for. Then again, it's a western cafe so I wouldnt expect much from their Japanese food.

Maple & Sea Salt Cake
I love this cake. It's very interesting with a taste similar to salted caramel. You would expect any regular cheese cake to be overly sweet, but in this case, the saltiness goes well with the sweetness of the cake. Definitely will come back to eat this again!

Triplet Cheesecake
Tastes really good, especially for the first few mouthfuls before it becomes cloyingly sick. The base/crust tastes really nice, it didn't crumble too easily and provided nice texture to the layers. I surprisingly liked the macaroon, maybe 'cos it wasn't too sweet. The mousse texture of the chocolate layer also impressed me. Very nice!

I would also try out the custom blend coffee even though I'm not a coffee connoisseur. This particular service that they offered piqued my interest in learning more about the style of coffee that I actually liked drinking instead of just blindly ordering whatever was on the menu. For just $12 I can customise my own coffee and have it again the next time I go back. A must try!

Life can be really hectic as a Singaporean boy. Especially if you have to juggle work and fun with just a pair of hand. So when I could squeeze out a little free time out of my busy schedule, I will just sneak out either alone or with friends just to find a place to chill and relax over coffee and tea.

Needless to say, desserts are always never far from my table…

It never fails to excite me to know that my coffee drinks are beautifully crafted by a barista. Latte Art is what we like to call when we see cute and fancy designs make of steam foamy milk. With a nice white leaf resting in the middle of my Cappuccino ($5.50) and then dusted with cocoa powder when my lips will surely touch the drink, I just gulped everything down in a few mouthfuls.

A few stirs here and a few more cups there and the conversation just keeps going on and on…

Just when you are thinking where can you find such a place with a barista that does Latte Art?

I have the perfect place! Consider making down your way to d’Good Cafe. Nestled along the stretch of shophouses along Holland Village, the cafe is quite hidden from view being located of the second and third floors. You might easily miss the stairs to the cafe so keep a lookout for Foster Cafe which is just beside the stairway.

The aroma of caffeine will lead you up with every steps you take. It’s almost like a natural instinct. Like bees attracted to bright colourful flowers, it felt like heaven with those spotlights and that distinct coffee scent…

Coffee goes well with almost everything and at d’Good Cafe, they serve breakfast dishes all day long. If given a choice, I will always opt for Eggs Benedict. Petite and simple looking with English muffin, bacon and poached eggs. But the main highlight of this breakfast dish is surely the hollandaise sauce with a citrusy touch drizzled on each piece.

It was very appetizing and I enjoy the dish.

d’Good Cafe’s rendition of the English Breakfast is what I like to define as hearty and gratifying. The portion is definitely more than enough for two to share but otherwise, nothing extraordinary. If you ask me, I still prefer my poached eggs and their unique hollandaise sauce.

There are pastas and pizzas or even Japanese curry to have. So to summarize their mains, there’s a variety to select upon and generous in portion to share.

Ending our meal were their cakes for desserts. I really like their signature d’Good Triplet Cheesecake ($8.50) which compose of a cheesecake covered sandwiched by chocolate mousse and oreo biscuit base. The chocolate macaron sitting above was also worth mentioning with that perfect “feet” and rich chocolatey taste.

I was also served another of their specialty also known as d’Good Maple Sea Salt Cheesecake ($8.50) which blew me off my feet. It’s one of those few dishes I had which are beyond my bank of vocabulary. They were so popular that we couldn’t’ have another slice since all were sold out!

I think it was superb ingenuity to create something that nobody has done. I’ve heard of salted caramel desserts but rarely do I heard of maple sea salt ones. if I see a rising trend in maple sea salt desserts, then you can bet that d’Good Cafe was the one started the craze!

Just when I thought the tasting invite would come to an end, Another blogger and I had the privilege to sit by the coffee bar and have our own coffee blend brewed…

The whole procedure commences by filling up a detailed form which indicates your preference of the customised cuppa. Everything else was secondary and you wait patiently watching your barista does the hard work deciding and mixing all the concoctions.

The entire process also known as coffee cupping cost $12 each session and subsequently $5.50 each time you order you personalised blend. Personally, I felt that it was worth the experience especially if you’re trying it for the first time. I sure had fun sitting along the bar taking whiffs and commenting my three very different tasting brews.

So after a few sips and a few more comments, I had my own personal blend which I just couldn’t resist giving the customised drink a pompous name! The Prince’s Blend, being spicy with a slight nutty touch to the drink. I kinda enjoy every sip of it and I think it will go well with that sweetish-salty maple sea salt cheesecake.

You will find terms like winery, smokey, fruity and even herbal to describe each blend. But that is by no means those ingredients are added into the coffee blends. It’s more like describing the mouthfeel and texture of the cuppa.

What about the difference between French Press and Cold Press and the coffee instruments to brew the drinks with? I’m no profession brewer but more like an amateur seeking the nice cuppa to my days.

d’Good Cafe is that nice place to seek a nice cuppa regardless day or night. It has a nice homely feel with various rooms themes within the two floors which is make even comfortable with the approachable staffs. Although I stay in the east and coming all the way down to Holland Village might seem tedious, I could see myself coming back every once in a while just to keep in touch with my friends and inner-self with my own personal blend.

In this photo you'll see the very quaint layout of the cafe (second floor), which has swings and carpet grass overlooking the road outside. The third floor has an al-fresco balcony seating, which I actually would have preferred because the airconditioning in the second level was way too cold for me!

The decor is distinctly cosy with a contemporary touch. There are surprises to be found in every nook and cranny, and I appreciated that thought

The English Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon, sauteed mushrooms, baked beans and (brioche?) toast on the side. While I enjoyed the crusty toast that was perfectly fluffy yet crusty at the same time, I'd have to say that this dish disappointed me a little. The presentation was a tad messy too, and I really go for aesthetics in plating of the dishes. The mushrooms were the best in terms of the seasoning-to-naturalflavour ratio. The scrambled eggs had a consistency I didn't really like and it was a bit bland. The bacon would definitely be better if it were a bit more crisp at the edges (while I definitely appreciate the fact that they used lean bacon

The aglio olio was my favourite main of the night! The noodles weren't too oily and perfect to slurp up. The prawns made up the bulk of the flavour with its slight burnt-garlic flavour. It wasn't as spicy as I expected it to be and the taste is really, really good. Smooth, savoury and not overly salty. Delicious.

The eggs benedict was well-done.The poached egg had the texture that I liked. Served with ham on a muffin, it was delicious. The hollandaise sauce was something different, though. It had isolated flavours of creaminess and sourness. As though lemon juice had been squeezed over the sauce, but not mixed in. It was a bit odd but I suppose it was something different.

The Japanese Curry Set tasted very home-cooked. I suppose if you like your dishes to have a certain home-cooked flavour to it, this will sit extremely well with you. The curry wasn't exactly flavoursome nor tasty, but the flavours were clean and simple. It had chicken, potatoes and carrots inside -a standard Japanese Curry. The rice was also cooked unevenly. D'Good Cafe probably isn't the best place for Japanese Curry though you're better off having western fare.

The coffee art is just too irresistably adorable! I ordered a Caffe Latte, and you can choose a flavour to go with your standard coffee drinks (Mint, Chocolate, Caramel, Vanilla etc.). The coffee was really good. It was a latte but the flavours were strong a robust, albeit a bit too acidic for me. It has a distinct smooth taste when you first sip it, and it ends off with a slightly bitter finish. Don't like the standard coffees? Do a custom blend for only $12, and $5.50 per cup when you have the same blend subsequently.

Custom blends are blends of coffees customised to suit your tastebuds: robustness, flavours and acidicity. All these can be controlled in your custom blend when the baristas will help you to cup and create your perfect coffee through tasting and smelling beans/coffee variations. Definitely a must-try!

D'Good Cafe also offers the Indonesian Kopi Luwak at.. wait for it.. $38 a cup. It's the authentic civet cat coffee where the beans of coffee berries are excreted from selected civet cats in Indonesia. Truly gourmet stuff.

The cheesecakes are absolutely divine. The Trio -a layer of chocolate mousse, cheesecake and an oreo base, is sinfully rich. The texture is smooth and has a slightly savoury aftertaste which is nice to break the ultra-sweet tastes
I particularly liked the chocolate macaron. It wasn't too sweet and the texture wasn't as sugary as those in commercial retail stores.

On the right, we have the Maple & Sea Salt cheesecake -my favourite! Its a huge hit and a definite bestseller. It has a distinct maple syrup flavour even though maple itself is extremely subtle. The balance of the subtle sweetness is harmonised with the savoury sea salt. It reminds me vaguely of a sea salt caramel ice cream, actually. Smooth cake, delightfully rich and tasty. Add this onto your bucket list, it's too good to miss out in life!!!

Service here is actually really good too. The staff is really helpful especially with the custom blends (I was as lost as a sheep with coffee brewing methods), and they're super friendly. The ambience is wonderful for a chillout date, and my only gripe is that the air-con seating area is way way way too cold for me :/ D'Good Cafe is a lovely place and everyone should hang out here whenever they pass by. The mains may not be to-die-for, but the coffee and cakes are excellent, ambience is super and you'd stay for the warm service!

When I’m not drinking a (sinfully sweet) Frappuccino from Starbucks, I usually like my coffee bold, rich and sugarless, so I decided to give their Caffè Macchiato ($4) a shot. For those of you who aren’t familiar with what a “Caffè Macchiato” is – it’s basically a shot of espresso coffee with a tiny dollop of milk. What you’ll get is a creamy, rich miniature cup of coffee, and a shot straight to coffee heaven. =D

They also do Latte Art but it was a pity that I didn’t get a chance to see the barista in action..

The bear is waving to you! haha.. isn’t it just too cute to drink? We didn’t drink this cup of Caffe Latte in the end because it got cold, but I did managed to try out their Ice Latte on a separate occasion, which had a bit too much milk and not enough espresso to it. Anyway, here are their delectable Cheesecakes (made by the boss himself!):

If you ever visit d’Good Cafe, you definitely MUST try out their cheesecakes. The d’Good Strawberry Cheesecake ($8) is fluffy with a layer of sponge cake at the bottom and cream cheese in the middle, smothered with strawberry jam and a sprinkling of nuts. Plus, they use Korean Strawberries which are known to be sweeter than your regular USA/Australia Strawberries.

If you’re like me and prefer something richer and more decadent, then go for the Maple Sea Salt Cheesecake ($8). All that creamy goodness and a crunchy base, typical of your classic New York Cheesecake. But interestingly enough, the owner uses Sea Salt and Maple Syrup to give it rather a unique twist. Well, cheese on its own has always been salty but you usually taste more of the sweet and sour in cheesecakes.

The difference with this Maple Sea Salt Cheesecake is that it’s sweet, sour and also salty! You also get a rather fragrant whiff of the maple syrup with each bite. Mmmmm.. just thinking about it now, has me salivating in front of my computer screen! =P

They were all sold out of this Triplet Cheesecake ($8.50) when me and CalvinTimo were there that day, but I managed to go back on a separate occasion to try it. It’s $0.50 more than the other cheesecakes which makes you wonder what extra premium ingredient did they use that warrants the price difference. *shrugs* I’m not too sure actually, but this is a triple-layer cheesecake. On top, you have a rich layer of chocolate. In the middle is the cheese and right at the bottom is a layer of Oreos. If you’ve got a super duper sweet tooth, then you’ll probably like this because all three layers are just indulgently sweet.

Now on to the main courses for the night..

Having just had an awesome Eggs Benedict at Benjamin Browns just a day before I went to d’Good Cafe, I must say that the one I had at Benjamin Browns was more indulgent. The homemade hollandaise sauce they used at d’Good Cafe could not really match up to my expectations for a sinfully rich and creamy sauce to compliment the poached eggs.

Their Spaghetti Carbonara ($16) on the other hand was rather good! I do cook my own pastas once in a while and this Carbonara at d’Good Cafe has a rather “homecooked” vibe to it which I enjoyed. The creamy white sauce was thick and rich, and the bacon slices added to the savoury decadence of a good creamy pasta.

Well, our night was just getting started.. next, we had some coffee lessons from the boss himself. And learned about the roasting, brewing and blending of coffee. Check out this video of the coffee beans roasting:

What a cool machine, don’t you think? I would love to have it in my future house, although I’m actually eyeing their “Elektra” espresso machine too, which comes in the shape of a huge silver bell. The boss gave us some tips on roasting coffee beans and how some of the beans are actually “empty shells”. Even though these empty beans do not really affect the flavour of the coffee in the end, the boss still painstakingly takes the effort to pick out each and every empty shell after the beans have finished roasting.

If you had noticed the tagline for d’Good Cafe earlier, it’s actually “Blend & Brew it the way you like it”. The reason behind this is that they offer a service where you can create your very own blend of coffee based on the qualities you want your coffee to have! This process is called Coffee Cupping and we had the chance to try it out first-hand.

First, you fill up a form stating what type of flavours you like to have in your coffee: be it nutty, chocolatey, winery, citrusy, etc. Next, the barista will prepare a few cups of coffee for you, each made from a different variety coffee beans. You then take some time to sip each cup while rinsing your palate with plain water between each sip. Finally, you let the barista know which cup of coffee you prefer over the others and why.

They will then help you decide on what goes into your final blend of coffee which will be made up of the 3 distinct flavours that you had listed earlier on. Once you have gotten the perfect blend that you want, they will enter it into their database and you can even name your own unique blend! Psssst.. You can now order a “CalvinTimo” blend of coffee from d’Good Cafe if you wanted to. =D I didn’t get to create my own blend that day due to the lack of time..

To end off the night, we had a photo taken using the cafe’s polaroid camera! They decorate the walls with lots of photos of all their customers.. try finding our polaroid shot when you visit d’Good Cafe the next time! =P
