Recently arrived in Singapore, I thought we would take a break from the tasty Asian foods and get a flavour of Italy. At least thats what we thought...As a starter I had the Beef Carpaccio and my wife the Tomato-Mozzarella; visually appealing, the Carpaccio is one big piece of fresh meat in which the chef has rolled some salad... interesting. On first bite, bam! you reach out for salt and olive oil. What a shame. Seasoning is key for a good carpaccio. As far as the mozza is concerned - again, olive oil would have added a lot of value.For the main I went for the tenderloin - moist in the centre, well done around and grilled on the outside. As you know, un-even cooking is a killer for a steak.One quite successful dish was the lasagne - the wify would recommend it; tasty, original and visually appealing (a remix of the traditional lasagna) - risky. But well done.No wine, but drank liters of water as the waiters constantly fill up your glass after every sip you take), and no dessert (as we were bloated from all this liquid), and we got a bill of 170SGD for 2. Pricey.Overall; a disappointment. Alb says: Focus less on the visual and perhaps more on the taste. Nothing is better than Mama's original cooking! 繼續閱讀

My friend bring me here for birthday celebration The ambience was very nice The sotong pasta with prawns & basil pesto was done very nicely Prawn texture is soft & fresh ,The sauce is very creamy & thick Grilled Atlantic salmon with baby spring vegetable & basil lemon sauceSalmon was good, fresh & tasty. No fishy smell with mild lemon fragrancesIf price can be cheaper,i will come back againOverall i rate 7/10 繼續閱讀

I've been to DOMVS ("Home" in Latin) couple of times but always for dinner. This is the 1st time I was there for lunch. The Italian Restaurant @ Sheraton Towers had refurbished its interior about 2 years ago, reopening with a modern touch. The Set-lunch Menu: S$29 for 2-course & S$36 for 3-course, is surprisingly reasonable with a generous selection of menu.Out of 5 starters to choose, I opted for the Beef Carparccio. This is something I just couldn't resist & it's really good. Normally for set-lunches, it's common to see just 3 choices for the main. Here, I've got 8 to choose from. I got myself a Risotto, which surprised my good friend. It was out of the norm for me. Risotto somehow reminds me of the Chinese "Mui Fan", basically gravy over cooked rice. But the word SCALLOP caught my attention. Boy, it was ambrosial! The plate of Risotto came with 2 huge scallops, bite-size chunks of scallops & bites of asparagus. The flavourful rice enveloped my taste buds & it's still lingering in my mouth as I'm writing this post. It's a Must-try!I ended my la dolce vita with Chef's Special of the Day. The dining area is very spacious and I like the tables being spread far apart from each other, keeping small talks ”enclosed”. The decor is modern and elegant, furbished with real trees and flowers placed on every table. Ladies are being pampered on WEDNESDAY, the chef offers a complimentary Seasonal Salad to go along with the set lunch specially created for Ladies. From my observation, the dishes are very light and healthy, emphasising more on vegetables and steaming. The special set lunch is only meant for ladies on Wednesday, Men don’t get it!Domvs also offer a 2/3 course business set lunch which is wallet friendly, priced at $28++ and $ 36++ respectively. Smoked ocean trout with mixed green saladA simple mixed green salad topped with smoked ocean trout to start. The chef has kindly included more salad leaves for me.The smoked ocean trout was sliced thinly and topped it on the mixed salad leaves. I was curious to find out what was the red coloured thing that was sprinkled on the ocean trout. Was it red capers?Pan seared garouper, black olives & capers My mains was a Garouper fish was is a firm and meaty fish. The chef served the seared fish in a spicy tomato stew with some mixed vegetables( zucchini, carrots and bell peppers). The tomato stew is very ”home-made” and has a hint of spiciness. The fish was also served with carrot sticks, asparagus and snow peas which I requested for more greens. I like the spicy tomato stew with lots of vegetables and I love anything with tomatoes!On the other hand, I felt that the fish tasted a little fishy and does not have the sweetness of fish. This was a slight disappointment though. At least, the fish has a crispy skin and the tomato stew compensated for the slight imperfection.Mango Charlotte with raspberry coulis & sorbetDessert was a choice of mango charlotte or the Earl grey chocolate fondant which I didn’t pick. The waiter reccommended something lighter, the mango mousse to end my meal . I was also told that that the mango charlotte was quite popular here , it is also available for purchase.Soft vanilla sponge with mango mousse in between the layers. The mango mousse is ok, I would prefer the mango flavour to be stronger( mangoe-y). The vanilla sponge is very soft but I felt it was a little on the sweet side.The sorbet has a mild raspberry flavour. It is advised to consume the mango mousse before reaching for the sorbet as the latter has a slight sourish taste. Not too bad, I like the berries with passionfruit puree.Petit 42 chocolate cookies and peanut butter cookies. The waitress was unsure of the latter and had to double check with the kitchen. The chocolate cookies were just passable, probably it was the texture was too hard and chocolate taste was mild. I prefer Famous Amos / Amoy cookies! I didn’t try the peanut butter cookies as I am sensitive to the peanuts. 繼續閱讀
