Disappointing visit

We were disappointed with our visit to Gelare after hearing pretty positive reviews from friends.The waffle was pretty average (we were hoping for something more crispy and fragrant) and the ice cream scoop was small and unsatisfying (we had opted without the whipped cream).Thankfully the service was amiable.At $11.60++, this was definitely not worth the money.

Ice Cream Cone

A simple treat from my fellow colleague after lunch at food court.  For the price at $6, is consider quite expensive.  I have requested for my favourite flavour: vanilla ice cream to go along with the biscuit cone.  Ice cream is creamy and nice, not too sweet, but melt really fast.  The biscuit cone is very crunchy and goes very well with the ice cream.  Service was fast and efficient, polite too.  This outlet is small but neat and clean.

Icecream

Had 8 scoops of ice-cream which costed $22.. As you can see from the picture, some scoops of ice-cream were already melting when it arrived at our table so it wasn't an enjoyable experience eating them as the ice-cream melted really fast. Some flavours we had include chocolate, cookies and cream, raspberry and strawberry. There were some peach and chopped strawberries to go with too. In my opinion, they tasted average but 8 scoops of ice-cream on one serving plate does look good and impressive.

Been newly opened, the outlet at Star Vista is running a 1-for-1 promotion for its waffles. The cafe is quite small and open with alfresco seating. It is quite cooling with just fans on top. But the seats are a bit too near to each other. Iced water is served here free of charge. We wait quite awhile for the waffles as it seems that there is only one person making the waffles. The staff is quite friendly, especially with little JJ.Regular Waffle with 1 scoop of Macadamia Nut Ice Cream ($11.60+)

It is served with shipped cream and maple syrup.
We order 2 waffles to share. The maple syrup is quite disappointing as I could barely taste the sweetness of the syrup. It is more like just water drizzles on the waffle. The chocolate sauce fares slightly better. While the waffle is hot and crispy, it is not fluffy enough.
Overall it is nice place, but food here is nothing to shout about.

Thankfully, the cafe of about 20 seating capacity is well sheltered and has ceiling fans on the ceiling to cool patrons down.  We had the Choc Choc Chunk Yogurt on Half Waffle ($8.60) and we regretted it. This chocolate is unlike the taste of chocolate ice-cream as it has a awkward sourish tinge to it which somehow has the pina colada aftertaste. We choice to have the waffles drizzled with maple syrup but when it was served, it was almost non-existential. The texture of the waffles wasn't fluffy as what we have expected too.

 Feeling dissatisfied, we ordered a Blueberry Cheesecake Ice-cream on Half Waffle ($8.60) and we were surprise that after 10 minutes, it still wasn't served yet. I had to check with the manager to see if they have prepared it yet. Later, he told me that the order wasn't keyed into the system and the staff we ordered from earlier had changed shift. I thought that this service lapse was terrible and really unprofessional. :huff y:He then quickly rush to prepare my orders and have it served.

This time, the waffles was slightly better with a slight crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Pretty good I thought and indeed, having an ice-cream tasted so much better compared to yogurt.


Overall, I don't think I'll be returning to this brunch of Gelare again given the poor service unless I have no other choice of desserts available.
