In the newly revamped food basement of One Raffles Place, lies this small open concepted restaurant in one end. It is a no-frills Japanese outlet which offers a small menu of Kaisen Donburi ($17.80; $14.80 takeaway), Iberian Pork Donburi ($17.80; $14.80 takeaway), and Gochi-So Set ($18.80) (which is actually a Design your own set meal, where you can choose anything from the spread of food available and take as much as you like in one serving). Besides these, pre-packed bentos are also available on the weekends too. The eatery is owned by an international firm that supplies Japanese cooked food. It opened a Japanese curry and dessert cafe called Gochi-So Chaya in West Coast earlier this year. The dine in area is decorated in a simple and wooden look. Quite a lot of seats by the way. Remember to help yourself to the chopsticks and spoons at the counter by the side.For $18.80 the Iberian Pork Donburi Set comes with a regular side dish, and miso soup. Top up $1 for a soft boiled egg on top of the pan-fried Iberian Pork, served with fragrant steamed rice, seaweed and special pork belly sauce.For side dish, I have selected deep fried seafood which tastes quite dry.For just $17.80, the Kaisen Donburi Set comes with a complimentary drink, miso soup and regular side dish! For takeaway, it is available at $14.80 without soup and side dish. Add a side serving of grated yam for an additional dollar.Kaisen Don consists of fragrant Japanese rice, topped with seaweed, spring onions, fresh tuna, salmon, squid and fish roe. It is served a limited 50 bowls of Kaisen Don per day. The seafood is well marinated and does not tastes too salty. But the fish is not well sliced as some cuts are a bit difficult to chew.Remember to help yourself to the miso soup counter next the cashier.Quite flavourful without too salty. Lots of soft tofu and seaweed inside.Next is the side dish counter, where there is a range of limited but tasty looking dishes available.I select the chicken cutlet, as the serving looks not bad. Looks a bit dry but tastes not bad. The dry looking vegetables at the side is quite tasty. Too bad it is so little.Overall the food tastes great. Place looks great but do not expect much from service.
